The renovation of this dated Middleburg, Virginia home touched every interior space and included a second-story, pop-top addition. A prominent Middleburg interior designer had recently purchased the 1970’s home situated on over three acres, and was interested in updating and increasing the livable space, as well as improving the curb appeal of the home.

BOWA, the design build contractor, found that the biggest challenge was ensuring the design solution and constructability were aligned with the budget. By working closely with the architect on the design, BOWA was able to help contain costs from the outset in order to deliver a beautiful result and meet the client’s tight budget.

The scope of the project entailed a complete main-level renovation, including remodeling the kitchen and reconfiguring the existing family room to open up tight spaces and improve the flow of traffic. Each of the bedrooms and bathrooms were reconfigured, and the design also called for a full second-story addition that allowed for new vaulted ceilings throughout. Particular attention was paid to insulation methodologies to ensure year-round comfort and energy efficiency. A new cedar-shingle roof and the addition of columns on the front porch create a graceful entrance.

On the main level, custom woodwork abounds from the hardwood flooring and paneling to the beautiful molding. In addition, the homeowner had a collection of reclaimed doors which were refinished and incorporated into the various doorways in the home. The new, light-filled kitchen was thoughtfully designed to provide abundant countertop work space and ample storage. The appliance package included a GE Profile dishwasher, French door refrigerator and microwave, as well as a GE Monogram range.

The result of this whole-house renovation is a welcoming country home that showcases magnificent views of the Piedmont. The remodeled home perfectly suits the homeowner’s lifestyle, providing both elegant entertaining areas and well-appointed private spaces.
