Whole-House Renovation in McLean, VA
The initial renovation of this McLean, Virginia residence was envisioned as a quick turn-around project. The challenge was to create a home that carefully balanced the gracious public spaces the homeowner required for frequent entertaining with the luxurious private quarters he desired for relaxing with family and friends. Another critical objective was honoring the client’s love of quality and focus on beautiful, custom items.
As the project unfolded, it morphed into a comprehensive, whole-house remodel where every room was touched. As the contractor, BOWA’s team worked collaboratively with the architect and interior designer planning the home from the inside out: the client’s vision for the space was designed and then BOWA worked closely with the architect to make it a reality.
Beginning with the gracious foyer it is apparent that each detail, from the custom finish on the barrel ceiling to the Eurofase chandelier, has been meticulously considered. The warm neutral color palette throughout the home lends an air of sophistication to the contemporary design which remains welcoming.
The main level of the home contains gathering spaces and a working kitchen, which was completely gutted and remodeled. More casual entertaining spaces are found on the lower level in addition to guest rooms, a second private owner’s kitchen and luxurious master suite and bath.
Filled with custom elements from around the world, the magnificent master bath is a unique sanctuary for the homeowner. Lacquered doors from Hong Kong, mosaic tiles from Italy, and shagreen vanities from France are framed by églomisé panels gilded in platinum-leaf. The travertine tub from Mexico is so large that it had to be lowered in by crane.
The spectacular media room showcases a 108-inch TV surrounded by custom millwork, which is also mirrored in the adjoining billiard room around the large saltwater aquarium. The spacious new fully equipped home gym contains a wall of windows overlooking the Potomac River.
A new pool with water feature seems to hover over the trees and is surrounded by a contemporary glass and steel wall. The design incorporates a well appointed cabana for comfortable entertaining.
