The Little Glass House

Nestled in the canyons of Santa Barbara, this was a 1950’s ranch that was transformed into a mid-century modern by Nick Noyes of San Francisco. It was extensively rebuilt and expanded in 2001 to embrace the outdoor lifestyle. The ceilings had been raised to peak at twelve feet with walls of glass and clerestory windows over the French doors. It has a southern exposure and is infused with light. Designed with a great room at the center, the three bedroom suites are oriented to provide privacy and separation. It also has a home office.

My husband and I bought the house five years ago and added central air, a large window in the office, new hardwood floors, and decorated it with a nod to the organic, natural beauty of Santa Barbara. Rustic furnishings and wide plank oak floors compliment the house’s modern architecture. We hired JGS Landscape Architecture to help turn our backyard into yet another living space with an outdoor shower, fire pit, and redwood hot tub.

At just under 2000 square feet, the house lives large and is the ideal place to relax and entertain as it effortlessly blends indoor-outdoor spaces. With views of the mountains and the Channel Islands, this home truly feels like a private oasis. This to date has been edb designs most comprehensive project.
