A minimal live / work dwelling was generated following the existing house's strong organizational diagram, the location of its structural steel frame and an analysis of the limits of the tight, steep site. Solving placement of the interior stair unlocked the plan for the entire scheme. At the lower level the live / work spaces and the interior stair replace two parking spaces. At the upper level the existing house is wrapped with a layer of outdoor rooms and is reworked to strengthen indoor / outdoor connections, open interior spaces and increase natural light, ventilation and views.
