Is the glass top clear or smokey? Is the base like brushed nickel? - On my monitor it appears that the glass is smokey grey.

Is the glass top fastened to the base? - Would like to put this in a vacation home that is frequently used by guests with kids. Any chance of the 54" glass top tipping over?
