With adjacent neighbors within a fairly dense section of Paradise Valley, Arizona, C.P. Drewett sought to provide a tranquil retreat for a new-to-the-Valley surgeon and his family who were seeking the modernism they loved though had never lived in. With a goal of consuming all possible site lines and views while maintaining autonomy, a portion of the house — including the entry, office, and master bedroom wing — is subterranean. This subterranean nature of the home provides interior grandeur for guests but offers a welcoming and humble approach, fully satisfying the clients requests. While the lot has an east-west orientation, the home was designed to capture mainly north and south light which is more desirable and soothing. The architecture’s interior loftiness is created with overlapping, undulating planes of plaster, glass, and steel. The woven nature of horizontal planes throughout the living spaces provides an uplifting sense, inviting a symphony of light to enter the space. The more voluminous public spaces are comprised of stone-clad massing elements which convert into a desert pavilion embracing the outdoor spaces. Every room opens to exterior spaces providing a dramatic embrace of home to natural environment. Grand Award winner for Best Interior Design of a Custom Home The material palette began with a rich, tonal, large-format Quartzite stone cladding. The stone’s tones gaveforth the rest of the material palette including a champagne-colored metal fascia, a tonal stucco system, and ceilings clad with hemlock, a tight-grained but softer wood that was tonally perfect with the rest of the materials. The interior case goods and wood-wrapped openings further contribute to the tonal harmony of architecture and materials. Grand Award Winner for Best Indoor Outdoor Lifestyle for a Home This award-winning project was recognized at the 2020 Gold Nugget Awards with two Grand Awards, one for Best Indoor/Outdoor Lifestyle for a Home, and another for Best Interior Design of a One of a Kind or Custom Home. At the 2020 Design Excellence Awards and Gala presented by ASID AZ North, Ownby Design received five awards for Tonal Harmony. The project was recognized for 1st place – Bathroom; 3rd place – Furniture; 1st place – Kitchen; 1st place – Outdoor Living; and 2nd place – Residence over 6,000 square ft. Congratulations to Claire Ownby, Kalysha Manzo, and the entire Ownby Design team. Tonal Harmony was also featured on the cover of the July/August 2020 issue of Luxe Interiors + Design and received a 14-page editorial feature entitled “A Place in the Sun” within the magazine.

The primary bedroom actually had an unusual dilemma in that it had too many windows, making furniture placement awkward and difficult. We converted one wall of windows into a full corner-to-corner drapery wall, creating a beautiful and soft backdrop for their bed. We also designed a little boy’s nursery to welcome their first baby boy.

Home and Living Examiner said: Modern renovation by J Design Group is stunning J Design Group, an expert in luxury design, completed a new project in Tamarac, Florida, which involved the total interior remodeling of this home. We were so intrigued by the photos and design ideas, we decided to talk to J Design Group CEO, Jennifer Corredor. The concept behind the redesign was inspired by the client’s relocation. Andrea Campbell: How did you get a feel for the client's aesthetic? Jennifer Corredor: After a one-on-one with the Client, I could get a real sense of her aesthetics for this home and the type of furnishings she gravitated towards. The redesign included a total interior remodeling of the client's home. All of this was done with the client's personal style in mind. Certain walls were removed to maximize the openness of the area and bathrooms were also demolished and reconstructed for a new layout. This included removing the old tiles and replacing with white 40” x 40” glass tiles for the main open living area which optimized the space immediately. Bedroom floors were dressed with exotic African Teak to introduce warmth to the space. We also removed and replaced the outdated kitchen with a modern look and streamlined, state-of-the-art kitchen appliances. To introduce some color for the backsplash and match the client's taste, we introduced a splash of plum-colored glass behind the stove and kept the remaining backsplash with frosted glass. We then removed all the doors throughout the home and replaced with custom-made doors which were a combination of cherry with insert of frosted glass and stainless steel handles. All interior lights were replaced with LED bulbs and stainless steel trims, including unique pendant and wall sconces that were also added. All bathrooms were totally gutted and remodeled with unique wall finishes, including an entire marble slab utilized in the master bath shower stall. Once renovation of the home was completed, we proceeded to install beautiful high-end modern furniture for interior and exterior, from lines such as B&B Italia to complete a masterful design. One-of-a-kind and limited edition accessories and vases complimented the look with original art, most of which was custom-made for the home. To complete the home, state of the art A/V system was introduced. The idea is always to enhance and amplify spaces in a way that is unique to the client and exceeds his/her expectations. コンテンポラリースタイルの寝室のレイアウトで考えたいこと

おしゃれにしたい、かわいいファブリックを使いたい、落ち着いた雰囲気の空間にしたいなど、普段あまり人を招き入れることがないプライベートな寝室に求める機能や条件はそれぞれあることでしょう。ただ、どんなレイアウトの寝室であっても共通して言えることは、“なるべく部屋の構成要素を少なくする” ということです。寝る直前に情報が多すぎると脳が休まらず、快眠できないと言われていますが、コンテンポラリースタイルの寝室のインテリアにおいても、そういった気遣いは必要になるでしょう。カラフルすぎる、あるいは柄がやけに目に留まる壁紙や、明るすぎる電気、ごちゃごちゃとした印象の乱雑なベッドルームでは、心も身体も休まるところがありません。迷いが生じたり、要素が多くなりそうになったら、シンプル・イズ・ベストの精神に立ち帰るのが基本となりそうです。 1R（ワンルーム）マンションでもプライベートなスペースは確保しておきたいもの。寝室のレイアウトに間仕切りを用いることで人目につきにくくなります。天井の高さがある程度確保できれば、天蓋を使うという選択も部屋の印象をがらっと変える効果があります。採光も求めたいポイントのひとつ。朝の太陽の光は体をスッキリと目覚めさせる効果があると言われています。ただし、強すぎる光は暑さとの戦いになるので、遮光カーテンの導入や窓ガラスに工夫を施すといいでしょう。やわらかな陽の光を寝室全体に取り入れられるよう、設計前に業者と相談できるといいですね。

コンテンポラリースタイルの寝室の照明

寝室の照明を暗めに設定する人が多いですが、いったい何ワットがベストなのでしょうか。一説には8畳の部屋でトータル260ワット程度の明るさが適していると言われているそうで、雑誌などを広げたときに無理なく読める程度の明るさが目安です。また、照明の色によっても部屋の印象は大きく異なります。色温度が低く温かみのあるオレンジ色の電球色は一日の終わりにぴったりな心を落ち着かせる効果が。家族と共有の寝室であれば、先に寝ている人に対する配慮も必要です。寝室の模様替えの際に、リモコンやスマートフォンアプリなどで、手元で調光できるような仕組みをリクエストしておくといいでしょう。シーリングライトだけでなく、スタンド式、壁掛け式などの間接照明や、調光器をうまく組み合わせて明るさを自在に調整し、さらなる快適な部屋づくりを目指しましょう。

好きな香りを寝室に

コンテンポラリースタイルの寝室 (ベッドルーム) を真のやすらぎの空間にしたいのであれば、香りに気を使ってみるのもいいですね。ラベンダーやネロリ、スイート・オレンジの香りは、不安や緊張から心と身体をときほぐし、安眠効果をもたらします。キャンドルはうっかり消し忘れなどがあって危険なので、タイマー式や、熱源を使用しないアロマディヒューザーなどが重宝しそうです。日々のパフォーマンスに大きく影響する睡眠。快眠できない、ダルさが残るなどの不調を感じたらすぐに見なおすべき部屋が寝室 (ベッドルーム) です。
