My obsession with living spaces began in childhood as I learned, without knowing at the time, that how my environment was designed directly effected how I felt. I would ask my parents to take me to open houses so I could walk through the houses and experience the floorpans. I started to draw floor plans envisioning what I now know to be ranch style houses with pools in the center of a c-shape structure... I still love those floor plans! When I wrote a paper in 5th grade about becoming an architect when I grew up, and learned I would need 8 years of school, I promptly decided that would not be the career for me... If only I had known I would spend 20 years self-educating about design, architecture and the energy of how people respond to their environments. In 1998, I purchased an Edwardian duplex built in 1897 in the Bernal Heights area of San Francisco. It was a "fixer" and by "fixer" I mean a house that I would improve myself, with the help of my mother, the Alameda Flea Market, Urban Ore in Berkeley, and some willing friends... It was a true labor of love that proved fruitful and led me and my then boyfriend to pursue our passion for remodeling 5 homes, and eventually, building 7 homes. Along the way, with 18 moves and two kids added to the mix, we ditched our original careers (me a pilates instructor and him a chiropractor). It seems our interest in the "structure" of bodies translated to homes... the rest is history. I work with people who are hungry to make the most of their lives, to live their potential and fulfill their true purpose. So please don't try to fit your life into what's around you, change what's around you to fit your life. If you are here to play hard, then design a space for never-ending parties and adventures with the people you love. If you're here to create, design a life that allows you to do your best work, surrounded by mind-blowing beauty and ritual. My work (and years of therapy and personal experience) supports relationships during what is, no matter what, a stressful time. And, it's time for you to get what you want. There's nothing I love more than tearing down walls and hanging strings of lights so you can live big. I look forward to knowing you.

Polsky Perlstein Architects is a Marin County- based architectural office. In partnership with our clients, we've created hundreds of thoughtfully designed projects throughout Northern California. We like to think of our completed work as being designed to fit the homeowners' lifestyles 'like a glove'. All designs begin as a carefully considered response to the site, neighborhood context and the Owner's wishes. Our portfolio therefore displays a diverse range of creative solutions, reflecting the unique resolution of each project's constraints and opportunities. Our process makes extensive use of perspective drawings (both computer generated and hand rendered) that promote a clear understanding of the ramifications of design decisions made through the course of the project. This enables us to smoothly progress through the various phases of design, approvals, documentation, permitting and construction, and to build cost effectively. Collaborative clients and a dedicated staff have made Polsky Perlstein Architects a vibrant and creative practice for over 30 years. We're motivated by our clients and look forward to culturing a close working relationship throughout every project.

As a Marin based Architecture firm we have worked throughout California to create unique and thoughtful designs. We also offer the option of creating a Design + Build solution through FORM Design + Build, our sister company. We have earned a hard won record of success in the design of single-family custom homes, entry-level home developments, and custom home communities in diverse environments ranging from the Bay Area, Santa Barbara, and Sacramento region to Baja California and the Turks and Caicos. We aim to be clear and direct in our communication with clients, who tell us one of the things they appreciate most is the interaction they have with our design team and the knowledge which is encompassed by each member of our team. All concerned, clients & designers alike, are full partners in the creative process. We use every means we can at every step of the design process to help clients “see” how an idea will play out if actually built. For instance, we use three-dimensional computer renderings as early as the Schematic Design phase. Just as important, our clients speak highly of our ability to come up with designs that are aesthetically pleasing, invariably innovative, and consistently budget conscious. Finally, we are committed to the notion that the present and most certainly the future require no less than sustainable building practices and the use of Green materials whenever they make good design, economic and environmental sense. We work hard to be informed about all of the latest sustainable technologies and Green practices so that they may be incorporated seamlessly into all of our projects. Although we have a range of built designs, those shown here tend towards a contemporary interpretation of traditional design. Our firm has done numerous projects including many small remodels that draw on local traditions including classic Californian Bungalow design as well as Craftsman and Prairie style houses. Although we try not to simply emulate styles, we strive to be true to the traditional tenets of these styles to avoid the appearance of merely copying. We have chosen a select few projects for the site but we would be happy to forward additional information and photographs of other projects to those interested in a more traditional design appearance.

Paramount to our point of view on design and building are well thought out space plans that are then, "built from the finishes in." Captivating sight lines are nothing if the space they occupy isn't extremely functional. We devote a great deal of design time studying all possible options for floor plan, furniture, and built-in cabinetry design to maximize every square inch of a home. It's critical that the floor plan is logical and efficient and that every transition between design elements flows. No matter the price point of the home or the finishes used, well thought out space plans are at the foundation for the most successful designs. We believe that balance and timeless beauty are critical, as are perfectly executed details and transitions. In any genre, authenticity, quality products & materials and classic key elements are key. We are a very busy and active family. Our custom home that we designed and built is the hub of all of our work, play and frequent entertaining. Our lifestyle inextricably woven into our work and has served well in informing our point of view on creating successful family homes.
