プロフィール

Willis Pember began his private practice in 1992 following a six year association with Robert Venturi and Denise Scott-Brown where he was a project architect and involved with several internationally recognized projects: the addition to the National Gallery of Art in London, England, fan pier high rise apartments in Boston, Massachusetts, Laguna Gloria Art Museum in Austin, Texas, the Philadelphia Museum of Art, and private residential projects throughout the United States. He graduated Magna Cum Laude from Brown University as an undergraduate, received an MFA in color theory at the University of Wisconsin, and a Masters of Architecture from the University of Pennsylvania in 1985. A Dales Traveling Scholarship in 1984 was awarded to study traditional and modern housing in India and Nepal. Feel free to reach out to us, we would love to hear from you!

We’ve had the pleasure of working with Willis on a few challenging historical remodel projects. It’s always been a positive experience. He is extremely detail oriented from the ground up to the final interior finishes and furnishings. A classic architect in the sense that he produces a beautiful cohesive home that is elegant, balanced and comfortable. He communicates clearly and nothing is overlooked. A real pleasure with beautiful results.

Starting with the existing 1960s floor plan, dropped ceilings and limited natural light, WPA uniquely reimagined our condo into a gem. His vision, sense of balance, artful use of materials coupled with precise execution created an award-winning masterpiece. Even though there were several previous renovations, only Willis had the vision to add skylights, relocate the master bedroom facing the noisy parking lot to the quite exposure, replace windows with sliding doors, expand the useful space with interior sliding partitions, craft a dynamic ceiling and unify the floor material. On the mechanical front, his design added central HVAC coupled with radiant heat replacing the baseboards. Willis is exceptional with design, both traditional and modern materials, functionality, continuity and balance.

"To know beauty, one must live with it" sums up the transformation in space, light, and flow of the home here in the Front Range that I have the pleasure of living in and which Willis Pember Architects was instrumental in creating. It all looks and feels 'right' -- non-obtrusive and yet with a definite sense of place and timelessness. From the overall impression to the smallest details, the talent and skill brought to bear on this renovation was formidable. Anyone familiar with the "before" immediately appreciates the "after" as a great place to live, work, and play. Willis Pember Architects facilitated the vision and made it happen.

As an architect Willis provides a creative, thoughtful and sustainable way to connect who you are, your needs and dreams, into a place that resonates - your home, library, or commercial property. Go see his projects, i.e. the Carbondale Library, the Near-Far house, etc: you will sense how Willis brings together design, materials and the natural setting to create a holistic sense of "nest," a place where you wish to be and invite others to join you. From beginning to end of your project, you would want to work with Willis Pember Architects.

I worked with Willis Pember on several projects including two award winning single family residences in Aspen,CO. Willis is a very talented architect with a thoughtful approach to every project. He has a unique ability to create beautiful contemporary spaces that feel warm and inviting and brings the same enthusiasm for architecture and attention to detail to every project regardless of size. I would highly recommend Willis and WPA.

I recently worked with Willis Pember on two Aspen, Colorado residential projects. He is a fabulous architect and above all, a pleasure to work with. Willis clearly has an elevated understanding of the modern and contemporary architectural aesthetic. I look forward to working with him again on future projects.

WPA is a professional, knowledgeable and dynamic organization, that responded creatively to my family’s needs and our beautiful river-side site . I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend their involvement to anyone interested in taking on high quality design and construction. They are good listeners and provided a unique and exhilarating experience. Willis Pember is an extremely talented architect and form maker. I have collaborated with Willis in the past and have seen a number of his projects. I would consider the new Carbondale Public Library to be one of the best public buildings to be built in the Roaring fork Valley. Whether you are considering a residential project or commercial work, Willis will bring a level of thinking to the table that very few architects are capable of offering to their clients.
