In January 2014, William Byrd Custom Homebuilders (“WB”) completed the construction of our new home that is located in Sea Pines Plantation, on Hilton Head Island. Our approach was a little unique in that we had construction plans and specifications that were 99% complete. As a result, we hard bid the job in the first quarter of 2013 from 5 very qualified and financially solvent custom homebuilders that focus on the Hilton Head area. We chose WB for the project for the following reasons: •Very thorough and detailed bid proposal that was economically competitive – they knew the job. •Creative value engineering ideas on where to save money and enhancements that would extend the useful life of key items – they were creative and offered value add ideas. •Highest recommendations and enthusiastic praise from “repeat clients”—they are respected and admired by their clients. After conversations with 2-3 of the references provided by each of the five local builders competing for the job, we found that William Byrd’s endorsements from satisfied clients were, by far, the most enthusiastic and favorable– this was the clincher. Below is a recap of our very positive experience with WB: •WB constructed our house in 9 ½ months, even though we all agreed to a 12-month construction schedule. •We experienced very few change orders (which were justified) and completed the job in close approximation to our original budget. •We did a lot of the interior design on our own, and William and his wife assisted with ideas during the process. With their deep knowledge of the building process and the local market, they worked with us and the architect, Rich Stone, on final design and finishing details. They have a great eye for things. • WB’s sub-contractors are an established team of professionals that have worked together and know how to work alongside each other. •These sub-contractors were easy to work with and have been responsive after the job. •William Byrd was fully engaged on all aspects of the construction, top down and bottom up, supervising the building process and all subcontractors at the job site on a daily basis. He provided continuous on-site supervision and meticulous attention to detail. •WB is well acquainted with the demands and requirements of coastal housing and specifically building in Sea Pines Plantation. They obtained the required permits, had no violations with the City or Sea Pines ARB, and delivered all of the necessary documents (C.O, lien waivers, etc.) upon completion. •Upon completion, we had a relatively small list of “punch” list items that WB has resolved and we think their word is even better than the written warranty that we have from WB. •WB made the process easy and enjoyable, and kept us on track. Chandler Brunson, guided, and sometimes prodded, us every step of the way. She helped with research to solve a problem or find a product that fit our “vision.” She reminded us of the next steps we had to complete to stay on schedule. Chandler and William made themselves available to solve problems and “emergencies” long after our home was built. Two years after our home was complete, our 20 year old daughter was confronted with a tankless water heater leak. She called Chandler in a panic. The problem was solved within the hour. They are always there to help. They consider you more of a friend than merely a client. They go above and beyond in every situation and circumstance. They are The Best!!! •We are incredibly pleased with the job that WB did for us and in the rare event that we ever elect to build another custom home on HHI, we would chose WB for the job. We hired William Byrd Custom Homebuilders to build our new home on Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, in early 2015. We first met William Byrd several years ago. He was recommended by friends who built their home twelve years ago when William was the supervisor on their project while working for another builder. He branched out on his own shortly thereafter, and it is easy to see why he has been so successful. In a real estate market that seems oversaturated with builders during volatile economic times, William has been hugely successful. He builds beautiful homes due to his attention to detail and his high expectations of his subcontractors. In fact, William, his staff, and his subcontractors all worked diligently to make our experience nothing short of exceptional. William makes himself very available to his clients throughout the construction process and responded immediately to any questions or concerns we may have had throughout the build. He is innovative and aware of the newest trends in home construction and decorating, and we felt totally comfortable relying on his expertise when making decisions, especially since we were not from the Hilton Head area and were remotely building our home. We would highly recommend William Byrd for any construction or remodeling project in the Hilton Head, South Carolina area.

I have been photographing homes for William Byrd for several years. They without a doubt build some of the finest homes in the Hilton Head area. Always first rate and a real pleasure to work with.

We had never built a house and this renovation (new kitchen, larger garage, additional bedroom and TV room above garage, office, screened in porch, new deck) was so comprehensive it was almost like doing that! Bill enlisted an architect to determine if everything on our "wish" list could be incorporated...and it could be! He and his office team held our hands throughout the entire process, keeping us one step ahead on the decisions we had to make, introducing us to professionals to assist us (kitchen and bathroom designs, features, appliances for example), and stepping in to give us good advice when we were uncertain. We have been delighted with the finished product and would use William Byrd again.

William Byrd recently completed a new front porch addition with roof line change. The project came out beautiful, I am so pleased with the result. The workmanship is perfect. William recommendaed we put a metal roof on the new porch addition as an architectural feature. The design enhanced the value of the home, William has a great design eye. The project started and proceded in reasonable timing, all community town reviews and submissions and inspections were all handled by William and his team. We ran into a couple of minor issues with a couple his contractors but William had them address the items promptly. I would both recommend and use William again on a future renovation

William Byrd has built two fabulous homes for us on North Forest Beach in the last decade. He is easy to work with, an excellent communicator and actually came in just under budget on both homes.

Room expansion, kitchen remodeling and outdoor patio involving rough and finish carpentry, electrical, plumbing and finish work. Good design ideas and high quality hands on timely completed work. Good reputation with local regulatory officials. Highly recommend.

Chandler handled a renovation of my condo in Hilton Head from start to finish. At every stage of the process she was there to manage the construction and help me with decisions. She made an enormous difference to me -- dealing efficiently with scheduling and ensuring that the service i received was top quality at every stage of the process. In her role, she far exceeded my expectations. I look forward to working with Chandler n my next project this fall.
