Segev and the Smart Design team are by far the best contractor for your project. The care and consideration that they take for their clients is above and beyond what any other design/construction services offers. They recently helped in the redesign and construction of our main bathroom. Our project had some special considerations, not the least of which was that we were operating on a tight schedule. We had 5 months to make a completely unusable bathroom space into something functional before the birth of our baby. The results were incredible. Not only is the space functional, but it is absolutely beautiful. It’s become our little family oasis, and they completed the project (design, permitting, tear out, and build) in record time without cutting corners. SmartDesign took my my outdated, dark apartment and turned it into my dream home. Their attention to detail, transparency, communication and dedication fosters a relationship of trust. They were amazing partners and the end results wen above and beyond my expectations. Having never done a renovation before, I was a bit nervous when embarking on a gut reno with my first NYC apartment. I was looking for a full service company that could design the space and manage & lead the construction. I interviewed a number of companies and from the first time I met Alan and Ryan from SmartDesign I was put at ease. Their knowledge was evident, they was honest in their assessment, able to explain the process and willing to answer all my questions. They knew this was my first time doing a renovation, and took their time going into detail and explaining the steps and budget. I didn’t have all the money in the world and being my first time doing a renovation, I was nervous about getting sandbagged on cost. SmartDesign was very fair, they were able to help me understand costs and come up with cost efficient solutions. Even going so far as dissuading me away from things that would undoubtedly bring in more money for them but wasn’t the best solution for what I wanted. The design experience was awesome. Nicolette is a very talented designer. She understood my aesthetic and brought beautiful designs to the table. She really thought of every little detail. From how to make the space feel bigger by having the doors go to the ceiling or maximizing closet space. To small things like ensuring the hinges on all doors matched the brass detail elsewhere. The team also brought idea to the table and helped me install them to make my home a smart home, something I never thought of that I absolutely love. The team handled the whole process, from getting board approval, permits, design and construction. They were transparent with me and set my expectations and always came with solutions when things came up as they always do during construction, especially during a pandemic. The end result far exceeded my expectations. I could not have found a more capable, trust worthy and talented company to work with. We had a 60+-yr-old high-rise apartment in Manhattan that needed serious, thorough renovation. Asbestos tiles. Ancient kitchen cabinetry and sink. Obsolete and inadequate wiring. We needed help re-imagining the space to achieve several goals at once. These goals included a) modernizing, b) ADA compliance, c) planning for aging-in-place so that we could live in our own home as long as possible, d) knocking down and rearranging walls to open the space, e) placement of glass transoms to allow eastern light to pass through the entire apartment, and f) establishing a backdrop on which to display our rather large and varied art collection. We also needed people to help navigate the insane process of getting permissions from everyone from our co-op management to the NYC Dept of Buildings. We discovered SmartDesign during an open-house tour event in our co-op where people who had renovated their own spaces were showing their projects to tours of other co-op residents. We walked into someone else's home and said, "Whoa! This is what we want! Who did this?" And the person responsible for pulling it all together, Alan Mishali, was there, ready to talk with us. We spent the next short while with Alan and his SmartDesign team helping us plan our dream home. Our "forever" home. They were a one-stop shop, meaning that they handled everything from design, to getting the permits through the NYC bureaucracy, to supplying the materials, to hiring the demolition and re-building team. They helped us through a unified design process that took into account everything we knew we wanted and thousands of things that we didn't know we wanted. They helped us design things like the various possible layouts of our kitchen backsplash, and the subtle color variations of our tilework. They helped us plan for a possible future where we had to deal with arthritis, and so there are no doorknobs in our home; all door handles are levers. The microwave is down low, so we don't have to reach above our heads to pull hot food out of a high place. They built custom-made bookshelves to keep our books and curios behind glass to avoid dust, and integrated pocket doors into these cabinets so that should we need a wheelchair in the future our bedroom is ready for it. With a project of this scope, naturally things will go wrong. Alan and SmartDesign are standing behind their work and have sent repair people out to handle every little problem that has popped up. Things like cabinetry problems, ceiling board joints settling and displaying cracks, and other problems. I trust Alan and SmartDesign.

Smart Design helped us with design and install, removing a large old gravel based driveway, and replacing with concrete. They also designed a new entryway and back patio for us. The whole process was amazing, Segev was extremely organized, responded immediately, and the finished product is better than we hoped! I highly recommend Smart Design!
