I am pretty particular about wanting my house to look a certain way. About 20 years ago a friend of mine introduced me to changing the look of a house by adding color to the walls. I was skeptical. She was going to paint her white walls a cool rich taupe color. When it was done, her home instantly felt warmer and more inviting and I was hooked. She and I loved decorating and worked together to pick paint colors for our projects, but it was always more difficult than we expected. Each project seemed to get more daunting, constantly going back and forth to the paint store for sample after sample in search of the perfect color. My husband and I needed to get the exterior of our house painted and we knew that selecting the right color was going to be the hardest decision of this project to make as it's not easy to change. I got many samples from the paint store and drove around knocking on some neighbors doors asking about their paint color. Then we walked into a local paint store to get yet another paint samples and Vanessa was there and noticed us struggling over the perfect colors. We started talking and she immediately started taking the ease out of the process. On our way home, I contacted her to hire her for her expertise. Last year Vanessa helped me choose colors for a repainting job on the entire first floor of my home, which includes the master suite, so eight rooms in all. She is energetic, enthusiastic, and a consummate professional who begins each consultation by asking questions and LISTENING to what you want, and then she takes it from there with her encyclopedic color box and amazing sensibility. I don't know how she does it, all I can say is her eyes should be insured by Lloyd's of London. I say "each" consultation because we've had more than one--we loved what she did for our interior so much we asked her to come back last week and consult on the exterior. Wall and woodwork color is the foundation for your decorating scheme so it's important to get that right. The difference the right colors have made is huge and the investment pays dividends every single day when my spirits lift as I walk through the rooms--no kidding. Unlike the other rooms, where we were redecorating from scratch, in this room Vanessa was working with pre-existing elements (tilework I designed, stainless steel, blond-ish cabinetry, etc) and she not only pulled it together with a completely fresh look but made it look like it had been meant that way from the beginning. In other words, it does NOT look like "this is a 17-year-old kitchen and this is the best we can do with that!"
