FIRM HISTORY
Spencer Tunnell of Atlanta, began his private practice of landscape architecture in 1988. In addition to residential and estate landscapes, Spencer and his firm completed the restoration of the Boxwood Garden at Swan House. In 1998, Spencer’s late wife Lisa Martin joined the firm and they developed a new Master Plan and three phases of implementation for the Atlanta Botanical Garden from 1998-2002. Since 1998, Spencer has worked on the implementation of the Olmsted Linear Park in Druid Hills. In March 2012, the project was awarded the Marguerite Williams Award, the top honor awarded by the Georgia Trust for Historic Preservation, as well as a separate award for Excellence in Rehabilitation. Current work includes the restoration of the Philip Shutze “Goodrum House” landscape, noticeable at the corner of West Paces Ferry and Habersham.
Spencer is past chair of the Atlanta Urban Design Commission, has been a part time faculty member at the School of Environmental Design at the University of Georgia and serves of the board of Easements Atlanta and The Cultural Landscape Foundation.
