True Home Restorations

We partnered with Aletha to restore/reimagine our entire 60's ranch after a serious of "updates" had occurred in the home, mainly in the 90s. Aletha guided us every step of the way to create a space which fits our family like a glove with inspired design elements. Although the scope of the project grew from a kitchen renovation to working on every square inch of the home, Aletha took everything in stride and guided us with grace through every concept/design/purchase/installation as we came to them. Aletha is an amazing person (and designer) and we would recommend her, with as much praise as we can offer, to work on any project no matter how big or small.

I'm happy to have been referred to Aletha by a colleague. Upon meeting her it was clear she was right for the job; her preparedness, portfolio and personality stated volumes. After much brainstorming and planning we decided on a kitchen design and Aletha worked with us through completion. Her recommended builder and sub contractors were a big plus. We will be working with her again on other projects.

My husband and I bought a 1967 house that had been re-done sometime in the late 80’s. The kitchen needed A LOT of work. It was an intimidating project to take on, but Aletha guided us through seamlessly. She was so willing to answer our many detailed questions, and make a layout plan work for our specific needs. Her positive attitude, in-depth knowledge, and years of experience gave us the ability to make confident decisions thought the renovation. I’m convinced we couldn’t have done this without Aletha and the several talented contractors she recommended. We are beyond happy with the end result, and will tell anyone considering a mid century modern renovation to give Aletha a call!

Aletha was pivotal in the success of our kitchen remodel. Not only does she have an incredible eye for authentic mid century modern design, she was extremely organized and responsive as a project manager. We bought a a mid-century ranch in late 2015 and have been working with Aletha on an intermittent basis since that time as we work to restore the mid-century detail to the home, project by project. I bought a midcentury bungalow a couple years ago that needed major renovations. I met Aletha through a local midcentury modern exhibition/tour that she was working to organize and viewed her home in the process. I knew immediately that she had an eye and passion for restoring midcentury homes to their former glory with appropriate contemporary conveniences and touches. I got a design quote and immediately hired her to redesign the kitchen of the house and she provided three different floor plans from the straight-forward to the creative overhaul. We went with more straight-forward design that included some very 1950s angled slide-by stained cabinets. (Photos coming soon.) Her custom cabinet maker did a great job at a reasonable price. Aletha created an inspired color pallet and chose all the fixtures and appliances that fit the style of the kitchen perfectly. In addition to that, she knows how to work with others, like myself, that are also passionate about midcentury design and she always finds a good way to mesh wish lists into her overall design. I'm currently working on a bathroom that she provided design for, as well. She fit into a tighter budget on this one, created a design plan quickly and it looks like its going to be just as great as the kitchen.

Our experiences with Aletha are always fantastic. She's been helping us restore our MCM home for over 2 years! When we first met Aletha she took the time to understand our personal style and our lifestyle so that her designs would work for our home and our family. This was really important to us because we have small children and wanted to feel like we can live in our home, sit on the furniture and play in our space. She has designed several interior spaces for us as well as the exterior of our home. We get so many compliments on her work, it's incredible! My favorite part about working with Aletha is that she is open to our ideas and suggestions. If we don't love it on the first try, she works with us until we land on something we love.

Aletha completely re-designed the kitchen in our 1960s home. When we first moved in, the kitchen needed not only a lot of updating, but functional space changes. We had less than a $15,000 budget, and Aletha was able to create an amazing space. Her plan preserved some of the original, mid century features which both cut costs and maintained the integrity of valuable details we may have otherwise demolished, while completely redesigning the layout to create an updated, gorgeous space. She also helped us with challenges such as finding appliances to fit 1960s non-standard spaces. Personally, Aletha is a gem to work with. She's very well connected in the community and can find the best for budget solutions for your project. Her personality and can do attitude are just icing on the cake for a truly seamless renovation. I contacted Aletha to do our kitchen renovation after following Mid Mod Mich, her True Home blog, and falling in love with a kitchen on the blog, which I later learned was Aletha's! Luckily, she made the trek from Grand Haven to East Lansing to see our home. Her idea to change the layout from a rather closed-in space to a galley, completely transformed the space. She communicated her ideas with our contractors throughout the process to retain a midcentury-modern design. Her fun finds including retro pendant lights make a statement and are consistently the first thing guests compliment. She was available whenever we had questions and followed up in a timely manner.
