We had plans to update the handrails on our staircase and were thinking of a contemporary design. We provided John Flagg with ideas we found on houzz and he took them and created a simple yet very sturdy design that we love (see Williams photo). John is very professional, efficient, and his craftsmanship is excellent. Highly recommended.

Was rebuilding a new home for mother in law after the San Bruno PG&E fire. We had a very tight spiral staircase and a custom railing for a overlook. Contractor could not find anyone to do this job. Some they found who claim to be professional hand rail contractors either quoted way too much or took a look and said it could not be done or would take too long and not worth their time! Frustrated, I went on Yelp and did my own research. I found Tree of Life Stairs. John came over and gave us a fair estimate. I am very particular and detailed oriented and John made me feel very comfortable that he would be able to do it. John did an awesome job and I asked him to do the stair treads after seeing how detailed oriented he was. Would not hesitate to recommend or use him again! You need stairs, handrails or any custom woodworking job I would definitely give John a call.

We had a railing put in on a new addition. Everything was well done and the area was left clean at the end of both days. Communication was very good and as the homeowners, we felt that our wants and desires were acknowledged and worked into the design we came up with. We were asked very important questions about further work so he could offer railing products that would go with the future work we were going to have done. Overall, a job well done!

John is a true professional who took the time to understand the vision of my project, make recommendations that I had not considered, and show my examples of similar projects he completed. He started on time, stayed on schedule, always left the worksite very tidy and clean, and finished on time within the quoted budget. I could not be more pleased with the outcome, cost, or expertise that John demonstrated.

John is a master at his trade. Before I hired John and Tree of Life Stairs to do our staircase work I would never think that a staircase could be the center piece of a house, but our stairs look so nice that whenever anyone comes over they always comment on them. Thank You John.

I recently had John Flagg from Tree of Life Stairs remove and old set of iron balusters and install new wood balusters and a beautiful oak rail which is traditional in design but also superior in quality and appearance. I selected John to do this work after reading a number of reviews online and having John come out to my home for an in person review and estimate. His price was very competitive and his quality of materials and workmanship were excellent. John is a true professional and gentleman that I was happy to have work in my home. I have since recommended him to others with out hesitation.

John was awesome. We only had a rail put in, so nothing too complicated or fancy, but his professionalism and general friendliness was on par with the excellent work he provided. Because of weather conditions (pre-painting took longer than expected) the job was pushed back by a day, and I felt comfortable leaving John in my house with I went off to work. So besides doing an amazing job on out railing, he also gave off a feeling over overall trustworthiness, which I think holds some amazing value. It had been a number of years since we removed our old stair rail fr floor refinishing until we got this new one, and we hadn't the slightest idea of what we wanted, needed, or anything. John was able to patiently guide us though the process of picking a nice finished product. I would highly recommend Tree of Life Stairs to anyone who is looking for this kind of work. John is bad ass!

We liked the free standing stairs John did for us. The final product is better than the reference pictures and the view we had. We are extremely happy to have worked with John for this job and throughly impressed with his attention to detail. John is very professional. He gave a very accurate estimate of the time and stuck to it.

I hired Jon from Tree of Life to build treads on my staircase. I am impressed by his work and his professionalism. Jon is easy to work with, very respectful of my home and just a nice guy. The stairs he built was just beautiful! I would have given him a 5 star review, however, the company he had recommended to stain my stairs did a horrific job and completely ruined what Jon had built. Though I am not happy at all with the turn out, I do recognize that I shouldn't hold Jon accountable. Overall, I highly recommend Jon, but go with your own stainer.

John recently completed a stair remodel and wainscoting project at our house. He was on site about four weeks to get the job done. His work is impeccable. He pays attention to detail and he has remarkable vision for the look of the finished product. He always consulted me when reached a decision point, often making suggestions that improved the product, even though some of these required him to do additional work. He takes great pride in his work, a real master craftsman. While it is always disruptive to have remodel work, it was a pleasure to work with John.

We hired John to install custom wainscotting in our daughter's nursery. The job was completed quick and with beautiful craftsmanship. We didn't really have an idea of the type of wainscotting we really wanted, John keyed in on the other details in our home and the finished products ties in beautifully. He was clean and great to work with. We had him do a pretty small job, but he handles any kind of wood work and specializes in custom stair cases. I've seen his completed staircases and they're pretty amazing.
