The New Design Project

We love our new home. And it's all thanks to Fanny and James at The New Design Project. Great ideas, an amazing aesthetic and really fun and easy to work with. Plus super organized, kept great records and stayed completely ON BUDGET despite my constant attempts to overspend. Fanny really listened to us and responded with design ideas that were super elevated - so while the house still feels like us, it’s in a style and sensibility we never could have figured out on our own.

James and Fanny designed and oversaw the renovation of the ktichen and two bathrooms in our new appartment. From the first contact throughout the proccess, they were extremely responsive and such a pleasure to work with. As with any extensive renovation, there were unexpected challenges but they were able to come up with creative and cost-saving solutions. They both have an impeccable taste and we could not be happier with the end result.

It was a pleasure working with The New Design Project. We are not the most decisive couple and were nervous about decorating our first house. Fanny was patient, helpful, resourceful and budget-conscious. She has excellent creative ideas and was able to translate our sometimes muddled design thoughts into reality. Our home is now much more sophisticated and livable. I definitely recommend The New Design Project.

Cannot recommend The New Design Project any more highly. Working with the team was my first-ever experience with a designer, and I was impressed continually with their professionalism, creativity, and level of organization. I hired them to decorate my two-bedroom apartment, giving them wide latitude so long as the design was still within my budget. Following those constraints, the team came up with a unique mix of custom-designed pieces and splashes of CB2 and West Elm where spending just wasn't necessary. They were able to translate my "tastes" into a livable scheme, and did so in a way that protected me from having to deal with the inevitable hassle of coordinating deliveries and installations.

We very much enjoyed working with Fanny. She was thorough, responsive and creative. We trusted Fanny's opinion and we found her work to be outside the box but still mindful of our personal comfort. The overall process of design, item suggestions and purchase was smooth and easy. She worked quite well with our architect and provided input where needed on the overall renovation. Throughout the project, Fanny was mindful of our budget and carefully guided us on "splurge" items versus reasonable substitutes. From design to the staging of our apartment, we would certainly recommend Fanny's work.

I worked with The New Design Project for a bathroom renovation and was incredibly pleased with the entire process. Fanny and James took my weird, sometimes contradictory, and overly vague description of what I thought I wanted and created a beautiful space that perfectly captured what I wanted. They were incredibly organized and responsive throughout the project, and handled the small issues that came up quickly and professionally. On top of all that they are lovely people! I would absolutely use them again and wholeheartedly recommend them!

PROJECT SCOPE: Full renovation of my 1BR (kitchen and bathroom) as well as interior design and project management. EXCELLENT communication from step-one, through completion of project. Fanny & James are a talented design and project management team. They made the project fun and as stress free as possible. There is absolutely no way I could have pulled this off on my own. Final results exceed my expectations. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

I would highly recommend working with The New Design Project for any interior design or staging project - I cannot say enough good things about how wonderful our experience was with designing our new apartment. Making the move from a tiny east village studio, to a roomier, Brooklyn 2 bed, my husband and I were at a loss where to even begin with our decorating. Fanny and James came highly recommended, and after our initial meeting, we knew that they could deliver the feel in our apartment we were looking to achieve. Fanny has an incredible eye, and after learning our style and absorbing our vision, she presented several mood boards for our apartment, then worked with us to get the look just right. Importantly, she meticulously stayed within our budget, and with each new choice made sure to balance new expenses by decreasing others. Our final list of items ranged from high end unique lamps to more affordable pieces that blend in perfectly. Fanny is highly organized, and provided us with a spreadsheet detailing each proposed item, complete with links to online photos, and the ability to sort by company and designated room within the apartment. We are thrilled with our apartment and could not feel more at home. Thank you Fanny and James for your wonderful work!

Fanny did a great job of listening to what we wanted putting together a plan that achieved what we set out to do without going over our budget. She also accommodated our feedback really nicely. We couldn't be happier with our new look.

This is the first time we've commissioned an interior designer - probably because it felt like an insane luxury, and 'hey, we've furnished our previous homes and they all looked okay!' But when we bought our first apartment, the space we were confronted with was a little 'intimidating'. I say this because we haven't lived in such an open plan environment before - we like space, but we still like to feel cozy when we're at home - and most significantly, there is a lot of dark wood on the ceiling, two wooden pillars, and an extensive brick wall in the space. These are all tremendous features we're lucky to have, but we were aware that if we picked the wrong furniture/decor, our new investment could end up looking either like a fussy, rustic ski-lodge! When we commissioned The New Design Project, their designer, Fanny listened carefully to our brief, and our differing opinions. She was considerate of the parameters we set such as the budget; the furniture and artwork we wanted to keep; and practicalities such as storage needs. In the concepts she presented she was adept at balancing all our contradictions e.g. wanting something stylish yet homely; playful with color yet not overly quirky etc. etc. The main focus of our brief, and where we were prepared to spend most of our budget, was the lighting. The New Design Project helped us to take the stress out of the contracting. They oversaw the extensive electrical work needed to fix the obvious 'botch-jobs' of previous contractors, and the installation of new light fixtures that zoned the large living space. One thing I really love about working with Fanny is that she is so direct and straightforward in her professional views. It made it so much easier to discuss our honest opinion on things e.g. ideas or materials we didn't like, ideas that we had that she thought were good, and equally those that were not so good. It meant that by the end there was a lot of trust and clarity of understanding. Along with all the additional bonuses of having an interior designer (handling contractors, having someone there for deliveries, dealing with customer service issues on orders, store discounts etc.) Fanny is extremely talented at creating one-of-a-kind, artwork on canvas, that adds a certain 'je ne sais quoi' to our once bare walls. What a bonus! We are exceptionally happy with the finished design and furnishing of our new home' Thank you New Design Project!
