The Granite Yard

I am giving the The Granite Yard a 2 rating because of the lack of customer service and integrity I experienced as they installed my counter tops and back splash. The sales process was positive but it went downhill from there. I had a small separate bar that they measured incorrectly thus the slab did not fit the counter. I get that mistakes happen yet their handling of that mistake is where they fell short. Initially they said no problem and they would re cut the piece with a new slab. Then they starting asking me about adding strips of brushed metal and it became evident they were trying to retrofit the original slab. After 5 days, close to a dozen emails and several calls I finally reached a voice of reason who said he would re-cut the piece as originally planned. When I bought the back splash from another source (which TGY suggested since their selection was limited) I asked TGY how much grout I would need to buy and was told TGY would buy the grout. My choice grout color was specified into the written estimate. The night before the back splash was to be put it I get a call saying they could not find my color. I let them know where to get the color and they said they would get it and be there the next morning. When the worker came I asked to see the grout and it was not the specified color and not even in the same color family. At this point they have tried to retrofit a mis-cut slab and grout with the wrong color which is where I see the lack of integrity. I had to get in the car and drive across town to get the grout. I asked the grout supplier how much I would need because the GY back splash installer did not speak English. I brought back the correct grout only to have to get back in the car and get more an hour later! This could have been avoided if the sales guy had just told me to get the grout as I originally planned to do. The day of the bar counter install I pulled the worker aside and showed him my Internet router near the counter install. I asked them not to touch any of the wires as my work (I work at home) requires I am online all day for calls etc. He spoke English and stated that was not a problem. I was dropped from my work call an hour later only to go to the router and see they had unplugged it! This company seems to be expanding their business to more of a custom focus and pricing yet I do not see the operations structure to support the business. When I pay thousands of dollars for counter top install i expect honest communication and follow-through. I did not get that from The Granite Yard.
