My husband and I are structural engineers and work with many contractors, but the only one we hire for our own residence is On the Beam Remodeling. They always listen to our needs and provide quality work while staying within the budget and schedule they propose. On the Beam also provides advice and ideas making our projects even better in the end. Their honesty and skilled craftsmanship are the reasons we always return to On the Beam.

I work closely with subcontractors that provide On The Beam with building services. On The Beam is a company that operates with exceptional integrity. On The Beam is characterized by clarity of work scope, purposeful communications, timely and immediate attention to problems and challenges, on-time progress payments, effective project monitoring and promptness of final payment. Yet working with Steve, Lisa, Hua and the team is always an enjoyable experience, they have a wry, sometimes ironic, sense of humor and easy graciousness. They maintain good and sometimes very close relationships with their clients and this appears to minimize upsets and miscommunications. Also Steve has a kean eye for excellence and therefore lack of it. This allows him to work well with subcontractors that are similarly committed to excellence. It is a smooth and easy process working with them project after project.

As a residential designer, I have worked twice with On the Beam Remodeling. Both projects were for the same client and in both cases the client was very pleased with the quality of construction and service that On the Beam Provided. The first project was a kitchen, dinning room and bathroom remodel that included custom cabinetry fabricated by On the Beam. The second project was a new, exterior stucco and brick stairway leading to the front entrance. Steve Schliff, Owner of On the Beam and project lead, provided excellent craftsmanship. Steve is well organized and an excellent communicator. It is a pleasure to have someone execute my designs to such a high level of attention to detail. I look forward to working with On the Beam on future projects.

We have used On the Beam for a number of projects over the years. We used them in 2008 to expand our kitchen including upgrading the adjoining downstairs rest room and laundry area. This major job was completed on time and on budget. Based on this experience, in 2010 we hired them to add a front porch. They worked with us on the design and made many excellent suggestions. When the job was completed, many people made the point on how well it fit in with the rest of the house. We have since had them replace our brick chimney in 2011 and to replace a number of windows in 2012 and 2014. We have found them very easy to work with, very thorough, and very professional. We would not have continued to use them if they had proven otherwise.

I’d been friends with the owners of On the Beam Remodeling since before we hired them to help design and remodel two of our bathrooms, and to design and build a closet. We are happy with the outcome and we're still friends! I should first state that this was a joint project: my husband did the prep work, getting everything down to studs and subfloor, and he also did the finish work. On the Beam did the sheetrock and tile work, and they or their subs put in the wiring, plumbing, toilets, and sinks. On the Beam was professional all the way along: they built scaffolding so that all work was accessed from windows; hence they and their workmen never came slogging through our house. The worksite was left immaculate at the end of every day; and they didn’t disturb us or our neighbors with loud music or excessive noise. They helped us with design ideas, and with picking out tiles, toilets and sinks, with closet design and numerous other details. The division of labor, i.e., what they did and what my husband planned to do, worked out very well. What we really appreciated was that their communication with us was always open and excellent. Any problems that came up, as problems do with every project, were satisfactorily mitigated. The project was finished on budget and in the expected time. Overall, I’d give the company a rating of 4.8 out of 5. I definitely recommend them.

I can't say enough positive things about On The Beam. Steve and his team are pros with integrity. We had some tricky situations in our remodel -- our floors aren't level, we had to knock down a load bearing wall and we were working with such a small space. From start to finish, the On The Beam team were great partners -- they are honest about budget, respectful about working in your home (they set things up to minimize mess) and they go above and beyond to problem solve when needed. In addition, their work is beautiful. We love our kitchen, which has transformed our overall space. My husband and I have a lot of confidence and trust in On The Beam. In fact, we're already working with them on remodeling our master bathroom!

I hired On The Beam remodeling to build a new redwood deck on back of house and create a half bathroom and replace old windows with french doors. I loved everything about working with On The Beam. Prior to starting the project, Steve Schliff met with me and went over timeline, payments, procedures, etc. The project was determined to take 8 weeks and it was completed at the end of this period. Everything that was planned went accordingly and moreover, I could see how much Steve and his partner Hoa enjoyed the work. They were clear, clean, responsible, respectful, and a joy to work with. And of course, the work was high quality and beautiful. They even added touches I hadn't requested but added to the beauty of the results. Very Highly recommended!!
