Our 2019 home update was not our first time using Spallina Interiors. Our first design update was refinishing our hardwood floors and darkening the stain. We went a shade lighter than Susan’s recommendation. Today I wish had listened to her slightly darker advice choice, but our floors look great. To this day. We also took all of her advice on paint colors for our home. Our fireplace was made taller and redone in stacking stones and a beautiful mantel choice by Susan totally transformed our family room! Last August I did a “Walk and tTalk’ consult followed by another project last Dec. when guests come in our front door they say “Wow, this look great, it’s like a totally different house I love it!” The design choices were perfect. This time I went with all of Spallina’s recommendations. She was so right with it all! Susan brought several options to the design whether using my existing furniture or buying new. The end result was clean yet homey without being too traditional. Spallina Interiors listened to any of my reservations throughout the process. The results are just what I needed for this 18 year updating without a complete, expensive renovation.

Susan does really great design work but buyer beware! I hired Susan with a mere $25k budget (maybe too small for her but not insignificant in my world). My dining room and living room look like pictures in magazine – they are BEAUTIFUL. But my budget was exhausted/exceeded with about 75% of my project completed. Her billing practices were not fair. I was charged a lot of money for things out of scope – for hours designing, shopping and bringing in things I never asked for. Then she was offended when I didn’t like them, asked her to remove them and she charged me even more for the time to take them out. She more than doubled her estimated hours without even a heads up. The most offensive: she scheduled a delivery and I told her I wouldn’t be home so we should re-schedule. She volunteered to be here for the delivery…she charged me for her time to be here. Shame on me for writing a check for bogus charges. I respectfully gave her balanced feedback and thought she would make good on the charges when finishing up the project. It took me MONTHS to get her attention for a few last things and when I challenged her on the unreasonable charge for a few hours of remaining work, her response was “I’m going to pass on this project.” It wasn’t a project – it was work to finish up a project that she started, over-billed and ultimately did not complete. There are great designers who won’t gouge you with their pricing and will focus on client satisfaction.

If you think an interior decorator is not in your budget then you haven't met Sue Spallina. I was having difficulty with putting the finishing touches on my family room. Sue came in and using art work, mirrors, and other accessories I already owned made the room come together. She is energetic and excited to make the most out of your space. I will be using Sue for any future decorating needs.

Moving can be stressful, especially with kids. When our family moved from Florida to Chicago, I wanted our four children to be excited about their new home as soon as we moved in. Susan incorporated their favorite colors and individual interests to create beautiful bedrooms they love spending time in. Susan is amazing! She has great taste and knows how to find the goods. I’m a very busy working mother and don’t have the gift to see what a room can be. Working with her from the beginning has saved me time and kept me from making costly mistakes. Invited to a holiday soirée I was in awe of the Host and Hostess's beautiful home. It was like walking into a Christmas Wonderland. The decorator Susan Spallina. Susan's taste is impeccable. The detail from floor to ceiling made this house one amazing home! I made an appointment with Susan for a consultation. Explaining I had a budget and wanted to put a plan together was not a problem for Susan. We talked about so many different things and accomplished so much. I love the paint we chose for the kitchen. Moved furniture around in a few rooms that made it so much nicer. Our plan for the family room is just what I wanted. We shared ideas and I can't wait for construction to happen in the spring. She found a perfect table and rug to go with my new couch. All I can say is I wish I had consulted with her sooner. I love what we have accomplished so far! Working on our plan. Susan is a class act. I bought a very old condo that was is great need of a complete make-over. The good thing about my old home was that the bathroom and kitchen were completely remodeled. Everything Susan did was purely cosmetic but what a huge difference. Susan picked out all my furniture, furnishings and lighting and I could not be happier. She is enthusiastic, provides excellent service, has a keen eye for color and her vision is truly a gift. Susan is passionate at what she does and it clearly shows. Susan always provided me with “choices,” which I really appreciated. She worked on an extremely tight deadline and coordinated everything, including the refinishing of my floors, the painting, the hanging of my grass-cloth and the installation of my walk-in closet. We had Spallina Interiors do some work on our previous house & loved what Susan did for us. So when we decided to move, we wanted her to do all the decorating. Our old house was contemporary but our new house was more traditional so we had to start from scratch. Each time she brought a piece in the house; we couldn't believe how perfectly it fit making the house look better than we thought was possible. She won't just buy a piece to fill a need. She waits until she finds exactly the right piece. And now the house is just about done & we are blown away by the job she did. Originally we had thought we'd keep this house for a few years then move on. But now we don't want to sell this beautiful, comfortable home that Susan has created for us. We can't imagine leaving this wonderful home. And that's just what it is, not just a house but a home. And not just any home, but a home designed with us specifically in mind. Susan Spallina has a great yet practical flair for design! She truly is a professional with a wealth of knowledge coupled with experience. She helped me achieve my design goals and saved me money in the process.

I had Susan come to my house as I was looking to refresh and update my traditional home. The first thing that struck me was how excited Susan gets as her ideas start flowing. You can tell she truly loves her job! She is full of energy and wants to work with you, not just for you. It's not good enough for a client to be fine with her ideas, suggestions, and product choices, she wants you to be excited! And if you're not, she slows down, questions why, and then uses that information to reconsider her recommendations and revise the plan. Though Susan came up with the ideas and directed my design process, I truly felt the end result was a collaboration of the two of us. Susan was excellent at offering options that maintained the traditional style of the house, yet blending in ideas for a few transitional pieces that added a bit more style and fun to a very predictable home. Things that I didn't know I would want, but then ended up loving. Susan offered some great insight and suggestions that other designers had never mentioned. What I really appreciate about Susan is that she looks at the bones of the house first - the architecture, floor plan and flow of the house, then comes up with her design and decorating ideas to compliment it. I feel Susan is great for both smaller décor projects, along with the bigger design and remodel projects. Susan moved some of my current furniture pieces around for a different look, along with buying new pieces and fixtures. In addition she was great at buying smaller decorating items to use throughout my house, making my home look complete. Susan took a challenging angled wall in my family room which had a fireplace and TV cabinet/bookcase, came up with an idea to give it an entire and much needed functional and new look. I truly believe Susan can handle any job put in front of her, big and small. I would highly recommended that you give Susan the opportunity to come into your home for a consultation. We hired Spallina Interiors to decorate our house for Christmas. Susan was professional, pleasant & her expertise is unparalleled. She was excited about the project & the finished product showed it.
