Overall average 2.25– but we have, at long last, got a “beautiful kitchen” although marred by two everlasting defects. Overall, despite early payment of £50K, full engagement in the design and planning stages, our kitchen experience with S&M was heavily influenced by the completely unsatisfactory installation and unacceptable remediation cycle of in excess of 100 defects, ranging from cosmetic to structural. Returning from our two week holiday( by the end of which we had been assured our kitchen would have been fully installed ) and contrary to expectations that had been set during our break by email progress reports and photos, it was a ghastly experience that we wouldn’t wish on our worst enemies. It was made doubly unacceptable by the massive stress, inconvenience and impact that it had on our lives as we battled with S&M’s directors to get the finished product and service we’d paid for and adequate compensation for what we’d experienced during that time. Although, we will never know the full story of what happened whilst we were away on holiday, we believe that we know enough to discern most of what went on, none of which has been adequately explained or refuted. As for the derisory amount of £500 as a goodwill gesture, it does not offer anything near adequate compensation for the circa 13 week post installation misery, intrusion on our lives, sleepless night and demands placed upon us. In late-January we naively imagined that everything had been completed and as a gesture of our goodwill and wishing for a return to normality, we even decided not to post the above, until today. A couple of days ago, our electrician made a final visit to complete the electrical installation work. In so doing he also investigated the failure of some lighting under a shelf that S&M had replaced. The failure was to do with a connection implemented by S&M, although I was unaware of twisting wires together and wrapping them in insulation tape, which they pronounced sound. Now they are refusing to pay the £47.99 bill for rectifying their shoddy workmanship and a blown drive. Not what I’d describe as a quality company ethos and there are many more examples dubious "quality".

Julia and the team at Shaker and May have helped design and in particularly crafted a kitchen for this house. They have advised, tweaked and developed our design to create something exceptional. The completed kitchen is high quality, refined, practical and a constant joy to our clients. At all times attentive, helpful and accommodating they provide a service and product beyond expectations.

My wife and I worked closely with Julia to create a new kitchen for us all to be proud of. After many discussions both onsite and at the Shaker & May Studio we agreeing on a layout, the range of appliances we required and finally the colours scheme we wanted. In addition to Julia all the team at Shaker & May including Justin, Jayden and Simon proved to be a dedicated team of craftsman which is reflected in the end result.

We have worked on a few projects with Shaker & May and they are an absolute pleasure to work with. Their high level of professionalism and dedication to each job is unwavering and the bespoke kitchens they create truly reflect this. I have worked on a number of projects with Shaker & May over the past fews years and as a professional photographer I have always been thoroughly impressed with the quality that they offer. Their bespoke kitchens are some of the best I have ever photographed and it is a privilege to be able to photograph for them. Julia has helped us to create a truly beautiful kitchen which the whole family enjoys spending time in. Julia always worked really hard with all our requirements to make sure we got exactly what we wanted, whilst adding her design eye to make sure it looked beautiful. My constant questioning so that I fully understood all the options and exactly what was being done were never too much trouble. The whole team which included Justin who made the kitchen, Jayden who helped him install it and Simon who did a beautiful paint job were all a pleasure to have around during the installation phase. We love the finished result!

We were undertaking a Barn conversion were recommended to talk to Shaker and May by another company we were using for other parts of the build. We had an initial design in mind for our kitchen and had some basic drawings but right from our 1st meeting with Julia when we talked through our ideas and made changes based on her professional experience through to the final handover Shaker and May were easy and a pleasure to deal with. The quality of the work from construction of the Kitchen, Joinery work and Painting to final installation was quick and efficient and they stayed in touch with us throughout the entire process to ensure we were happy with their work. Our unique kitchen is now the heart of our new home and we love it! Would not hesitate to recommend them to anybody looking for a new kitchen or for any other bespoke Joinery requirements.

We were delighted to work with the Shaker and May team on our Bath townhouse kitchen. They designed and built a truly bespoke kitchen from the cabinetry, surfaces, handlesetc to ensure that our very specific requirements were met. The outcome was a unique kitchen which we adore and really gives the house the wow factor.

After looking around for a great kitchen I decided to use Shaker & May - I was not disappointed. The attention to detail and the quality were exceptional. I was thrilled with the finished product and would not hesitate in recommending Shaker & May to anyone wanting a beautiful, handmade kitchen. Most people assume that a new kitchen will cost the earth and although not cheap, Shaker & May provide exceptional value for money - you get a Plain English or Smallbone kitchen for a fraction of the cost and they are locally based near Bath. Fabulous and highly recommended.
