I have never before written a bad review online, but I feel obligated to help prevent someone else from going through the same problems we have. If you are considering buying a VP Homes house, I'd advise the following: 1) have a good lawyer ready, 2) hire someone to complete a full independent inspection before closing, 3) do not close until you are 100% satisfied with the house, 4) pay special attention to ensuring drainage systems are installed properly, and 5) check that VP Homes has valid builder's insurance.
To make a long story short, our new house flooded on the day that we closed, and flooded several times in the weeks following. VP Homes refused to fix both the root cause and the resulting damages (and they did not have builder's insurance, despite still building other houses). We went through a lengthy legal arbitration, which forced VP Homes to fix the root cause; however, damages are not covered under the home warranty. We have spent thousands of dollars fixing their mistakes. Despite many requests from our insurance company, their home warranty company, and the attorney general of Indiana, VP Homes refuses to compensate us or even enter mediation. Throughout our entire experience with VP Homes, they have been difficult and nearly impossible to communicate with. After we fixed their mistakes, we are now happy with our house and we love our neighborhood--but we did experience a huge amount of stress and financial loss. So if you are considering purchasing a VP Homes house, please make sure you are prepared.
