HOMEOWNERS BEWARE! Looking for quality workmanship? RUN from this guy. Our 1-star rating is generous. Paul Orzeske is an affable character we found on Houzz, but do not be fooled. Orzeske is wholly incompetent to run a remodeling project. He is entirely disorganized, a man who never writes anything down, rarely follows through on his promises and delivers sub-par results. We soon learned Orzeske is a compulsive liar. He told us our project would take 2-3 months, then started 2 months late blaming the delay on "the city being behind on permits." We eventually became suspicious and called the city to learn they had repeatedly asked Orzeske for drawings and paperwork that he failed to submit in a timely manner. In the meantime he started work without the permit and was promptly warned and shut down. He waited a few days, then commenced working again! So the city summoned him to court and fined him $250. He assured us he would pay the fine and wait for the permit. We later learned he never paid the fine and we got stuck with the bill. Orzeske strung us along for 8 long months until he finally bailed without finishing in Aug 2020. He just never showed up again. Although relieved to be rid of him, we had to find someone willing to finish and soon discovered the depth of his incompetence. We paid thousands more to fix his work and YES, we have photos and paperwork. Half of our new doors had to be re-hung as they were visibly out of plumb. Brand new wood floors were stained but never sealed, so they immediately scratched. His tile guy didn't seal any of the tile work. See the recurring theme here? He just skips the final step! One bath floor had to be ripped out and re-done and the other had to be re-grouted and sealed. Grout was falling into the tub during showers. Kitchen backsplash grout crumbled and fell on the counters. New bath fans were vented out but left wide open, so birds, bugs and bees built nests and got inside. Window and door casings were installed with butt joints instead of miters. We repeatedly asked him to protect our new tub, which he ignored until his worker dropped a metal tool and gouged it. Orzeske then hired a man to repair the tub but didn't pay the guy, and just like the permit fines, he left us holding the bill. Mortise door locks and hardware were hacked into the new doors with zero finesse. His electrician installed 5 ceiling fans but never coded the dip switches, so every remote would control every ceiling fan. We had to pay another electrician to code the dip switches and re-do the under cabinet lighting, which went out on one side. We noticed leaking in the basement coming from the main stack and a competent plumber found a years-old hairline crack in the main stack that he said should have been checked when the walls were open. Orzeske took our front door to paint and it was returned with dried paint fdrips, dust and dirt dried in the paint. We had to fix bits of every aspect of his work.
