October 5 helped me with a guest bathroom remodel. I know nothing about construction or remodeling and October 5 held my hand through the whole project. From demolition to plumbing and tile choices and fixtures, October 5 guided me with kindness and knowledge. I am so happy with the final project, I scheduled a remodel for my master bathroom next! We worked with Jim Brophy from October 5 to remodel our home. The project included rebuilding our kitchen - new cabinets (Crystal Cabinets), under-cabinet lighting, countertops, tile, and appliances; wall-to-wall dining room cabinets, 1,500 sqft flooring (24”x48” tile), and bathroom remodel with curbless walk-in shower. Jim’s attention to detail and project execution far exceeds what you would expect from a contractor. He also has great spatial awareness and can easily envision design changes that will enhance your project. If you are looking for a design/build contractor, you should call Jim at October 5 - He will treat your project as if it his own home.

The October 5 design build team were wonderful to work with on our first-floor remodel and expansion. It’s a collaborative approach, with October 5 shepherding the process. Jim and the design team carefully listened to our ideas, thoughts, desires, and visions; they have an amazing talent for extracting exactly what we were looking for. Jim told me early on in the process, “If it’s not a hell yes, what is it?” He could tell when I was wavering or in doubt on certain selections, and carefully focused me back to my vision. Regular design meeting kept us well informed, and positioned us in the driver’s seat. Though October 5 steered the design process, guided us on material selections, kept a tight reign on the budget, and put all the piece together for the build, it was our goals, visions, and designs they successfully extracted from us. I don’t know how Jim did it, but this is exactly what we wanted, but didn’t how to communicate.

This will be our second design build construction project with October 5! 12 years ago, they completed a beautiful remodel of our home, which is too big for us as our grown children out on their own. We purchased a new home closer to town, and will again be going to October 5 for the remodel. We intend to carry over the design details October 5 is known for and executed in our previous home. We follow the October 5 construction projects in our neighborhood, and are excited to work with them again!

Both men are friendly, professional, efficient, and always deliver the best designs and subsequent construction. It’s precision at its best! On budget and on time, they are spot on. I can’t wait to see what they come up with for my next project!

We hired October 5 Fine Home Builders for our home expansion and remodel. It is their focus on symmetry and balance, their process of subtraction, and fanatical attention to detail that hooked us. It’s like we they knew exactly what we wanted but couldn’t articulate. We toured several of their projects, and found each unique home to be relaxing, calming and peaceful. Jim and Ryan explained it this way, “We look at what can be removed or harmonized in terms of lines, textures, angles, etc.” And that’s what they did. As the plans developed and materials selected, Jim guided us on cabinets, tile, counters, doors, trim, flooring, fixtures as they worked the materials into our plans. Once construction began, Ryan delivered exactly what had been designed. His attention to detail, alignment, and symmetry and balance impressed us. He communicated with us regularly as the job progress. In the end we could be happier; we feel our home is one-of-a-kind, made exclusively for our family.

At first their name caught my attention, but the amazing customer experience is what truly stood out. October 5 Fine Home Builders did a fantastic job of designing and building my home. My interactions with Jim and Ryan were smooth and easy-going. I never understood how much work goes into a project long before construction starts. Originally, I had wanted things to move fast; I wanted to get started – yesterday! Jim assured me the time allocated in the design phase was crucial and would pay off nicely at the end. He regularly peppered me with questions, offered choices, showed me options; he left nothing to guess. As I mentioned, I did not know how much work goes into a project. With the design completed and permit in hand, Jim handed the project over to Ryan to begin construction. Ryan was the first one on the job everyday and the last one to leave. He showed up on weekends when a tradesman needed extra hours to finish. His presence insured everything was perfect, exactly as planned. This was my first project of this scale and it went off without a hitch. I recommend, if your want your project constructed like a fine piece of furniture, call October 5.

Jim Brophy, Ryan Heiman, and their whole team at October 5 are the best. Jim managed the design team, materials selection and kept us on budget, and was a tremendous resource when it came to decision making. It was an enjoyable process, and we were excited to be active in the design and decision making. I would never consider anything but the design/build approach for future projects. And it’s no one other than October 5 for us! Ryan was the project manager for construction; keeping all the subcontractors on schedule and made sure every step was completed with the highest quality. He is very thorough; keeping us up to date on the schedule and progress frequently with pictures, emails and all the details.Everything was perfect.

Being new to California we felt fortunate to be introduced to October 5 and their team. The overall ideas and concept of how to update our home were welcomed early on in our process. It was a pleasure to be part of the process and the overall "construction" took under 3 months! Their attention to detail, excellent communication and follow through was excellent! My job requires extensive traveling, so I needed a design/build team to perform with my best interest in mind while out of town. Needless to say, I sought after a company I could trust. October 5 was referred to me by an interior designer, who said their attention to detail and quality of work is unsurpassed in her experience. This was an enormous undertaking for me, so I did my research. I reviewed copies of October 5’s plans, was invited to view completed projects and speak with their clients. I was impressed when one of their client’s greeted us at the front door with a glass of white wine for the tour of their home, which was beautiful and impressive. During the design process, it became clear to me why the interior designer said, “Their attention to details . . . is unsurpassed.”In the spirit of good fun, I joked with them about being obsessed with the details. After I moved out, construction began immediately and things moved like clockwork, even when I was out of town on business. October 5 provided a detailed construction timeline before the project began, so I always knew what was happening and could relax. Construction finished as scheduled, and the results are beyond amazing – it’s sometimes mind-boggling to realize this is my home. I can’t say enough about October 5, but will leave you with this, “The quality of their work is truly unmatched!”

I first encountered October 5 Fine Home Builders at an open house. The contemporary kitchen design really struck a chord with us; we must have spent 2 hours at the open house speaking with Chuck. After some thought, we decided it was time to redo our kitchen, and Chuck’s attitude and style meshed perfectly with ours. His attention to detail was stunning. His sense of style, and understanding of form and function was impressive. Sometimes I can’t believe we waited so long to remodel, but I am glad we did, as October 5 and Chuck Cardoos hit a home run.

October 5's design build approach is the perfect solution for the remodel of a home. During the design process they maintained a detailed budget, which reflects all changes, so the client understands the costs to remodel. When it comes time to execute a build-contract, the construction cost is exactly as expected. It is obvious during the design phase, October 5 has a very unique talent – understanding symmetry and balance. They obsess over every minute detail. Some times a client is eager to get going, but there is a need for patience to “let the building breathe,” October 5 allows finish materials to have a say in the overall design. Construction is as expected; clean, orderly, on-budget, on-time and to perfection. They believe in the process, “Build it once, build it right, and make it last a lifetime.”

Our extraordinary custom home, designed and reconstructed by October 5 Fine Home Builders is undeniably a work of art. October 5 offers superior design and execution, where form and function converge. Ryan, the project superintendent, attends to every detail with an eye for quality and perfection. Their open-floor plan design blurs the lines between indoor and outdoor spaces, light abounds in every room, yet the space remains purposely private and intimate. Originally constructed in 1953, our home had not undergone any remodeling or updating. During construction, the house was all but demolished - leaving only the rough framing and portions of the exterior stucco and siding. Earthquake updates, 200 amp electrical service, beefed-up insulation, plumbing, heating and air-conditioning, smooth drywall, wide-plank flooring, bathrooms, kitchen, and dual-glazed windows supported the bulk of the project, which lasted 4 ½ months. With clean contemporary lines, the modern floor plan, great for entertaining, offers a celebrated life-style. What a beautiful and relaxing way to enjoy life! We say, “Call October 5 to celebrate your next project.”
