We first approached Jonathan with an idea. We wanted to expand our 1926 home and possibly make use of the sloped double lot by incorporating a walk out basement, or ideally, a garage. When we sat down to see the renderings, we simply said “WOW - we can have this?” The home was a corner lot with a ton of room to build in the back, but no room to expand on the sides - and we didn’t want a simple long rectangular addition. Jonathan created an almost impossibly beautiful design in a really challenging space. The architectural design is detailed and interesting from all angles and he was able to fit a two car garage under the house. Designing a house and getting it built are two different things. In order to implement the design, we required multiple town variances and Jonathan led us through the process and presented the proposal to the variance board. We can’t stress how important it is to work with someone who knows the rules and regulations of your town and Oasis is top notch here. Jonathan was also very engaged through the building process, checking in and ensuring things were going to plan. Jonathan and Oasis Architecture are highly recommended and we would not hesitate to use them again for another project. Choosing Jonathan and Oasis as our architect for our home renovation project was simply the best decision we made. It positively impacted all other subsequent decisions in the seemingly endless stream of decisions you need to make in a home renovation project. But that first one—it’s important and we could not be happier with the results. Jonathan and team were quick to synthesize our various goals for the project and designed a really elegant, clean and crisp solution. Even as our goals would shift in the design process, Jonathan was flexible and responsive. When our eyes became bigger than our wallets, Jonathan realigned the designs back to reality. He worked with us to identify and select a great contractor. When some of the expected unexpected challenges hidden behind our old house’s walls emerged, Jonathan again was quick to ascertain and propose effective solutions. Jonathan is talented and experienced, accessible and approachable, and a downright good honest guy. He has a pretty fantastic dry sense of humor that certainly comes in handy when you find your old house’s load bearing walls are balanced eight feet to either side of a central support beam. We felt lucky to have him throughout.

Jonathan is truly unique. He has a very rare combination of aesthetic talent, technical expertise, professional flexibility and warm personality. This is our 3rd major building project, and by far the largest and most time/money consuming, and I’m so grateful we found Jonathan to work with. He was a true team player, every step of the way, working flawlessly with us, our builder, our interior designer, and the town, to get even the most urgent and thorny problem solved in the best way. And the final result is a house we absolutely LOVE, Thank you Jonathan!

Jonathan/Oasis vision for our home has entirely changed how our family lives so much so I fear ever having to sell this house. The project changed the entire back half of our residence which resides within a historic neighborhood merging the outside with the inside environment. The dramatic transformation of the space is something we never envisioned. We found working with Jonathan to be relatively effortless ... we were consistently on time at the right level of detail. The contractors we interviewed all commented on the detailed nature of our drawings. We easily passed the intense scrutiny of the local Historic Preservation Committee in our first meeting; they also commented on the vision and excellent balance of historic and new. Will absolutely work with Oasis again and highly recommend.

We recently collaborated with Jonathan Perlstein of Oasis Architecture to renovate the entire rear half of a 1920's Glen Ridge Historical Home. Jonathan opened up the dark, closed-off kitchen to allow natural light to flow in. He relocated the kitchen and dining room and added a powder room to suit this young family's busy lifestyle. This was an easy and successful collaboration. Jonathan's architectural expertise allowed us to drop in the fresh, modern design elements the client was looking for. We can not say enough about Oasis Architecture and the amazing vision Jonathan had for our home. From the beginning, he thought outside of the box and created a beautiful design for us. He imagined our kitchen in a location we would never have thought of and created a window design that allows us to feel as though we are constantly surrounded by light. The finished product is everything we could have asked for.

Jonathan of Oasis Architecture initially was an architect who was recommended to us and now is a family friend. Jonathan has created a true Oasis for us here in Montclair NJ. His desire and ability to sit down and truly listen to what my husband and I were hoping to achieve was fantastic. Jonathan immediately had juices flowing and tossed out amazing and innovative ideas on how to not only enhance our property and home but create a space that we never imagined. I had a great time sitting down with Jonathan and going back and forth on possibilities and realities. He also was terrific about responding to our request of recommending contractors. He has a very wide range of project experience along with many great contractors to recommend. The contractor we chose was one of Jonathans recommendations and we would certainly use that company again. The contractors continually commented on the precise plans Jonathan had created for them. I can't say enough about how pleased we are to have chosen Jonathan as our architect. Not only are we loving the finished product but honestly so is much of our community. Together we have created a new energy and refreshed vibe that people continue to compliment and enjoy as they drive or walk by our home.

Jonathan at Oasis Architecture designed our new beach house after Hurricane Sandy destroyed our original. He did an amazing job capturing our aesthetic and designing a home that fits perfectly in the beach landscape of our town. We couldn't be happier with the house -- it is absolutely lovely and we owe it all to Jonathan.

Our research drew us to Jonathan at Oasis Architecture with his impressive track record enhancing similar style, older Victorian houses and we certainly feel we made the right choice. Jonathan ultimately came up with a design that has completely transformed our living environment (and truly enhanced our entertainment options). His architectural empathy and attention to symmetry have preserved an ideal balance that compliments the original structure while also adding a ‘wow’ factor that the rear of the house was previously lacking. The extended mud room and new TV/living room interact seamlessly with the rest of the living space and provide sweeping open lines that magnify the interior features. To the exterior, we’re looking forward to trailing plantings across our circular trellis that now sits imposingly over the outsized living room bay windows. And we can’t wait to get out and enjoy our beautiful elliptical covered patio, the perfect outdoor entertainment space with its intricate decorative details and outstanding craftsmanship. We’ve had a huge amount of compliments on the finished work, inspired by Jonathan’s creative vision, and we’re very, very satisfied with the results!
