We love our Edwardian 6 bedroom home where we brought up our three daughters but want to renovate it so that it worked for us in our new stage of life. We wanted light, space and modern functionality but also needed to respect the history and style of the house. We looked at 10 different architects via RIBA and interviewed 4 firms. MTA were excellent from start to finish. Michael Trentham and his team listened carefully to our ideas and aspirations, asked lots of questions and came out with 3 different plans. These were as elevation drawings and as 3D movies and were detailed enough to see how the space would work for us. Further adaptations resulted in a project we could not have envisaged on our own. MTA obtained planning permission and helped manage the tender process. The builders all commented on the accuracy and detailed nature of the plans. We elected not to ask MTA to project manage the build but that option was available. Honestly we can’t recommend them enough - imaginative without being whacky, respectful of the style of the property without being stuffy and lovely to work with.

MTA were exceptional to work with. Incredibly knowledgeable, experienced and professional. Their fees were transparent and really helped moved the project along to bring it both in line with our timeframe and budget. We would highly recommend working with them and would definitely work with them again on another project.

Michael Trentham at MTA was recommended to us by several sources for our project to extend and refurbish a Victorian mid-terrace house in South East London. Michael and his team provided us with much-needed reassurance and guidance for our planned works from the outset. We loved their suggestions and plans for maximising the space and bringing more natural light into the building. The overall concept marries the old and contemporary beautifully. With MTA's extensive experience of delivering projects of a similar nature in the same area, our project progressed smoothly through the planning stage. Without Michael and his team's expert support and service, we would never have had the confidence to take on such a project.

Michael and his team at MTA have worked with us on a few projects to date and have become our chosen architect in south London. As an active property company we expect great design delivered successfully in an agreed time frame. MTA have delivered on all these fronts. Our latest project is on the site of the old Dulwich postal delivery office where we will be providing an exciting mix of houses and flats behind a retained heritage Victorian facade and we look forward to working with MTA on this and future projects.

I chose MTA Architecture & Design after meeting Michael during his introductory visit to our home. He took detailed notes of everything on my "wish" list. I wanted an architect who was local, approachable, professional, and who could provide excellent architectural insight and instruction within our budget and on time. A tall ask, but Michael and his small team fulfilled the brief soundly. Michael also project managed our renovation. At each stage of the project, his communication was timely, transparent and clear. Weekly meetings on site facilitated open communication between him, myself and our contractor, ensuring that our project was completed on time, to the contracted day, and within our budget. We love our "new home". I have already recommended MTA to our friends, who were impressed with the stylish, yet practical transformation of our home.

Provided a professional service, giving effective advice throughout the design and planning stages. During the construction works ensured the plans were being adhered to and kept on time - which were essential key factors in my project and very grateful for this. Areas of Improvement; when providing quotes to clients it would be useful to get a better understanding of the extras (mine came to £1140 in postage, telephone calls and printing costs) - I would suggest including these in the quotes and if extra copies are requested then adding these on as necessary. In addition, the advice provided regarding gaining 'Party Wall Agreements' could have been a bit more timely to avoid causing this to be a last minute rush. Overall very good and I would recommend to anyone.

Thank you for taking the time to review us on Houzz. I am sorry that there was confusion with the additional costs outlined in our fee offer. These are difficult to quantify at the beginning but equate to approximately 4% of the overall fee we charged you. We thought we had advised you these could be up to 5% of the overall fee and will ensure with advise future clients.
I am also sorry to hear you were unhappy about our advice regarding the party wall agreement. I feel this is a little harsh as we changed the wall from boundary to party wall during the planning process causing additional work and time and the details also had to be amended a few times due to the adjoining owners party wall survey wanting a different coping detail. You were not charged for any of this additional work and the response to the neighbouring surveyor was quick and efficient and did not delay the project. Its unfortunate you are left with the feeling the party wall process was rushed but we are pleased you are happy with our overall performance. Thank you for your valuable feedback.

Our fees as Architects are fixed and are calculated on the amount of time needed to complete the various stages of the project.
