After 20 plus years in the Sacramento area, our dream of living in San Luis Obispo finally came true. It seemed the perfect opportunity for a “new look” for a new home. We had already selected paint, flooring, interior trim, and counters during short visits over several months to the area, and hours on line with the developer’s design team. We wanted an inviting and comfortable interior, not so formal that you would be afraid to sit down. We didn’t want everything to match, we wanted it to blend. It quickly became obvious that doing this long distance was a problem, we needed local help. Searching through Houzz, we found Mike O Design and contacted Mike. Mike patiently listened as we explained our situation and the need for guidance in making it a reality. Mike discussed how he works, how he “shops” his extensive resources locally and throughout southern CA to source his project. Our homework, was to scroll through Houzz and select pictures of interiors we liked and comment on them, what we liked and disliked. He would then review them remotely to develop a more complete impression of what we wanted. This was easily done on Houzz. We made arrangements to meet on our next visit to SLO and walk through the house. After our walk-through, Mike provided us with some computer generated prints of his suggestions. We offered photos of some our furnishings and accessories that we wanted to see in the home. We all agreed that not everything need to match, it being more important to have it come together as a whole. Mike was very easy to communicate with, replying promptly to our questions and concerns. We didn’t have need to do anything so drastic as adding rooms or removing walls, but Mike did make a couple of suggestions, interior improvements to enhance our space. The first was to tile our existing drywall-faced fireplace. The second was to construct a low bench along one wall, ending in a banquette seating arrangement in the dining space. Over the next month, the tile and bench project were completed. As the furnishings were not in yet, it was difficult to imagine how the fireplace tile and built-in dining seating was going to come together. Mike had to remind us to be patient, that he was also finding the furnishings, fabrics and accessories that it would make it all work as a whole. Walking into our home on the “reveal” date, taking in the change, we were speechless. “This is NICE !, who lives here?” I thought, a look, a style that was immediately our own. The sage green tile on the fireplace brought in the outdoors, the dark wood of the banquette contrasted with the light walls and anchored the room. Each room was appealing, inviting you to sit and relax. It did indeed come together. Thank you Mike.

What do you do when you buy a home that hadn't been updated in the 55 years since it was first built and need it to support your lifestyle, take in a magnificent view and pay respect to the environment (desert) but also no be a typical southwest desert home? You call Mike O Design, you hire Mike O and you stand back and let him do his magic. We have just completed our 4th remodel with Mike (2 stages in our California home in early 2000's, our next home in Portland 2015) and now our home in Tucson). The first 3 were all interior design projects and this last one was a roof to foundation interior and exterior remodel to modernize a mid century home. There is literally no limit to his creative abilities and no detail is too small for his ingenious eye. Mike flew down from his base in California to map out the construction and rendered a round 1 plan 3 days later. We instantly recognized its perfection and submitted the drawings to the GC who oversaw the construction. Known locally for building higher end custom homes he marveled at the plans stating more than once during the construction "I never saw anything like before" and proceeded to dub our home "The Art House". When all the construction and installation of appliances, lights, painting, etc. was completed, Mike flew down and spent a week measuring, shopping locally, and stacking everything he purchased under blankets in the garage until he could put it all together for a final reveal. We've long since learned to not second guess anything or comment on any one piece. His choices are meticulous, beautiful and everything flows into each other in the most natural way possible. We left for 5 hours on the final day - a house with only a bed and the few furnishings we brought with us, while Mike, his partner Steve and a helper put it all together. We returned to a miraculous transformation, well beyond anything I can describe in words. Every room, everywhere you looked, was breathtaking. Beyond the choices made - all within budget - the home produced a feeling that we can only describe as us. This is Mike's gift - helping his clients fully self express through design. It's been 3 days since and I find myself sitting, staring, marveling and thanking the universe for having Mike in our life. He is an extraordinarily gifted designer with big, generous and loving heart. He not only left a visual impression, he left an abundance of positive energy that will be part of our home forever.

We bought our 2600 sq ft home in Atascadero, CA while living in a 1600 sq ft studio apartment in Southern California. We’d decided to leave almost all of our furniture, appliances etc. with the new renter when we moved and buy all new for the Atascadero house. We also decided to stay in So Cal while the new house was being remodeled and furnished. Being the daughter of an Interior Designer, my wife Joy, insisted we use a designer to help transform our new home into a reflection of our personal style. Enter Mike! We found Mike on the Houzz site and were impressed with the photos of his work. At our first meeting we were impressed with his efforts to understand our taste and style and his enthusiasm about the project. We immediately hired him to transform both the interior and outside patio area. Except for a few items that we were directly involved with in the decision making, Mike had a free hand to work his magic. This required the mutual development of trust which happened fairly quickly. Mike exceeded our dreams, wishes and expectations. His use of modern/contemporary combined with antique/mid century modern totally captured our eclectic tastes. His placement of Joy’s contemporary art (she’s an artist) and our personal art collection, revealed Mike's unique and critical eye. As the work progressed Mike would stage a “Reveal” for us. Each new reveal literally brought Joy to tears of happiness. His use and placement of valued and sentimental family items showed Mike’s knowledge of and sensitivity to what we valued. In addition to the interior of the house, Mike designed, built and furnished two patio pergola areas. One for sitting and hanging out and a separate dinning/cooking area. Both with retractable awnings and retractable sun/wind shades. All of our houseguests rave about our new home. They consistently comment on how it looks like they walked into a Home Design Magazine shoot, but it feels amazingly comfortable. Every contractor and individual Mike used were outstanding. Each was professional, prompt, and cordial. It is not often one can say that! Mike works well within a budget and is a master problem solver. He did a praise worth job with the labor and supply chain challenges due to Covid. He was very available and present throughout the process. We recommend Mike one gazillion percent! Joy and I are also thrilled to have made a new friend.

Mike is always such a delight to work with, every time he visits us at Habitat Home & Garden he is very personable and friendly. We've worked on many projects with him and he is a very talented designer. He is always welcome at Habitat!

Mike is amazing!!!! He came into our home for a consultation on redesigning a Spanish influence 1995 house into a contemporary 2022 house, and saw my vision immediately!!!! He has been amazing to work with. I will definitely work with him again!!!!!!

We met Mike-o in the summer of 2020 just as we had finished replacing our patio doors and were thinking about finally getting new flooring and possibly painting. I knew right away when I met him that he would guide us through an extensive remodel with an eye to how our art collection could be best displayed and our space reconfigured and updated within our budget. We weren't disappointed! He listened carefully to how we wanted to use our space, helped us choose fabulous flooring, paint, lighting and new furniture, while still using our dining room table and chairs (completely refinished and re-upholstered) and transforming our purple living room couch with new fabric! Our biggest issue was our baby grand piano which we placed in a new location after spending 31 years in a small, crowded space, and that has completely changed the look and feel of the living room. It has become a warm, inviting space where we will enjoy lots of years of entertaining. It was great fun to do the big "reveal" with Mike-o, and now each time friends come to see us since the remodel, we enjoy the look on their faces, as if they are walking into a completely new home, which is exactly how we felt in January! We are particularly happy with the placement of our art, and enjoy looking at each piece with new eyes. I know we'll be doing more work with Mike-o in the future (master bath and bedroom still to be planned!)

Moving into a new city can be confusing and frustrating especially when you are trying to make your new house, a home. Thank goodness I found Mike Rogers. Mike helped me get my head wrapped around what the possibilities were for my new residence. Mike Rogers is an amazing designer! He listens, he cares and he delivers great results. We wanted to renovate our living/dining space to better meet our physical needs and to create a functional yet appealing space in which we could relax. Mike listened to our desires, asked lots of questions to get to know our lifestyle and our priorities, took measurements and put together a renovation and design plan that did it all. He took our concerns to heart and developed color palates, found perfect furniture and décor items and pulled it all together using some of our own accent pieces. He even put together a ‘reveal’ (like on HGTV) that was amazing. Choose Mike to be your designer/decorator. You will not be disappointed!

Mike helped us with a small project. We purchased a newly constructed home, and we were faced with all white walls. We asked for advice on paint colors, and he also advised on arrangement of furniture pieces, decor, light fixture and art. The best part was his available “ team”. Electrician, painter, window-coverings etc. We didn’t have to do our own search. We will be asking his advice in the future.

Have you ever dreamed of walking through your front door and being filled with immense joy at the beauty of your home ? That's how I feel every time I walk into my home now. Mike took my collected treasures and created a masterpiece that is uniquely me. I love my home. At the same time Mike rearranged my interior, he designed my backyard into a meditative sanctuary. I can practice tai chi on my bamboo deck while listening to the waterfall spilling into the pond below. My fire pit, made out of an antique copper pot, sits just beyond the pond. I'm in awe of his talent. Mike translated what was in my heart into physically beauty. He's unique, he's special... and his work is impeccable.

We found Mike through Houzz, so didn't know what to expect when he came to our home to meet with us. But when the hour was over, we had happily retained him, and had started down the unexpected path of working with him not only on the living room, but then the sunroom, dining room, bedroom, office, and possibly the backyard, Here are some reasons our relationship with Mike has been a success: First, he stays within budget which we very much appreciate. He uses existing furniture, artwork and personal items whenever possible which results in a warm, personal living space and not a "decorated" one. He communicates - calling on a regular basis with updates and schedules. He has a great deal of passion and enthusiasm for his work, which is fun to watch and also contagious. He has a great "eye" and can visualize and share his ideas for a particular space. So far he has been spot on. Mike's clients typically give him free rein to choose items for their homes. I need to be directly involved in most of the big decisions and even some of the small ones. Although it was not easy at first, we managed to find a level of comfort for both of us and really enjoy working together. (At least he lets me think we are working together)! Seriously, we find Mike to be outstanding at what he does and recommend him without reservation.

We moved into our house seven years ago and managed to put up with the mismatched and dated walls, floors, and lighting--not to mention furniture--of our main living spaces because we liked the architecture of the house so much. However, after several months of quarantine with two young children we were sick of the cluttered atmosphere! When Mike first arrived he was able to immediately come up with ideas to make our living spaces not only coordinated with each other, but functional, inviting, and comfortable. His enthusiasm even made us excited about the potential beauty of our house! Mike was able to brilliantly create a perfect living space within a limited budget. He also was able to work with our needs: one of my kids has a sensory processing disorder as well as several other difficulties, so we needed a layout that would be easy to navigate as well as durable furniture. Everything had to be easy to clean because we do tend to make a lot of messes! He accomplished those with really beautiful furniture, and made sure all the lights were on dimmers for the sensory issues. He even made a little cozy nook for my daughter to chill in. He managed to find and arrange the furniture to allow easy storage, tidiness, and the ability to engage in activities together as a family. We find ourselves playing more board games and doing more art projects together because that is what the spaces Mike created are designed for! Another aspect of Mike's work is that he really has an eye for style. We love how the floor, wall colors, and lighting work together to create a casual beachy effect. Mike is able to create an amazing overall effect from elements I would not necessarily imagine would work! In fact, several weeks after he finished the project and we have had a chance to really feel at home, I still find little details he added or color schemes that go together from objects we'd had for years but never thought to put together. We have family roots in Indonesia, and he was able to create an atmosphere that has distinctly Indonesian and beachy vibes. He was really able to blend those worlds together in a beautiful way. Mike did an excellent job with giving us living spaces we truly enjoy living in! The product is much better than anything we imagined! We highly recommend him for home projects.

Hiring a designer was not our intention. We originally conversed with Mike about the layout of closets in a small area of our home. His response was surprising and unexpected. While Mike’s remarks addressed our original question, they led my husband and I to a greater realization: we spent most of our time trouble shooting problem areas of our house instead of ever envisioning our home as one whole project, a feat that was too great for either my husband or myself. Mike-o spent a great deal of time walking through our home listening to our concerns, dislikes and preferences about each area of our house, he presented us with ideas and drawings to outline his thoughts. His ideas were outside the box, creative and well thought out. Where we struggled dealing with our house’s awkward layout, lack of storage and financial restrictions on remodeling, Mike offered creative, budget friendly solutions. He worked around problem areas with unique approaches to create functional and beautiful spaces we never imagined possible. Mike planned the phases of each part of the project to maximize our level of comfort as we lived in our home during the remodel. He has an extensive network of contacts to get quality construction done quickly. When he had a structural question about a specific wall in our house that we had unsuccessfully asked many other contractors about in the past, he made a quick phone call and had a structural engineer ‘stop by’ that day on his way home. Mike also has an extensive knowledge of products and materials. Mike travels frequently for his job. He recommended using individuals in the fabric district of Los Angeles to local artisans on the central coast to online retailers and individuals selling products on Etsy. The result for us is a house that is not just functional, but truly aesthetically pleasing. Mike was also readily accessible. When issues and questions come up, he was always there to provide an answer or problem solve. When a contractor had a question about installation, he always picked up the phone or stopped so work could progress. When we were not pleased with the installation of the blinds, he contacted the company and took care of the problem immediately. When we weren’t 100% satisfied with a few pieces of furniture, he had them returned and found new pieces that we were overjoyed with. He truly wants his clients to love their home.

We recently moved to morro bay to a house that made me feel happy. But the house was dated and some features were down right ugly. We needed help. We found Mike on Houzz and he was a godsend. Working with a limited budget, Mike put together a plan that made our house beautiful and comfortable for us. His design selections were great. He kept us involved throughout the process. Mike created a professional design, and implemented that design, from start to finish. I was overwhelmed & stressed with a landscaping project on our recently purchased home. That was until I met Mike. Day one as he walked through the property he was full of excitement, ideas whirling through his head, having a vision of beauty, style, and function; where I saw plain, ugly and complicated. When Mike left my house that first day I knew I was in good hands, stress gone! He was full of great energy that carried on through the whole project. Nothing was too much for Mike. No detail was too small, every plant, flower, rock and piece of furniture, was meticulously planned and placed. If he wasn’t satisfied he would never say “oh well”, “we’ll just leave it” or “it’s fine”. He would never settle until it was perfect. And never once lost his enthusiasm. Not once did I feel alone or stressed as I was before I hired him. He was available every minute of everyday. Our finished project added value to our home and is the envy of the neighborhood. We hired Mike to transform a 1973 mobile home into a beautiful mid-century modern home. This was an entire remodel and re-build project. He re-designed the floor plan, replaced the ceiling and wood paneling with drywall, and created an open concept design. In addition to the architectural design, he also designed the interior and landscape. This home originally had 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms with a 1975 add-on of an enclosed sunroom, additional bedroom and bath and detached garage. Working with Mike is a joy! He is passionate about design, very energetic, and fun to work with. Wth a big project like this and all the budget considerations, he is excellent at knowing where to spend the money and where not to. Mike was extremely sensitive to our tastes and desires; at the same time he doesn't hesitate to speak up if something isn't going to work. He is extremely prompt, attentive and available. I highly recommend Mike for whatever design project you may have.

I was apprehensive about doing an extensive 2nd home main floor renovation from four hours away, but working with Mike was the best. His creativity and design were excellent, and his communications and responsiveness are probably the best I've ever worked with. Just as importantly, he was vigilant with my time and money so I am pleased to give him my highest recommendation. We will be so enjoying Mike's work for many years!

Interior Pros - design studio was hired by Mike-O Designs to do a custom hardwood flooring and stair case installation located on Bear Canyon Lane in Arroyo Grande, CA. Dealing with Mike was a true joy. He was very clear and concise with responsive communication of all questions with timeliness and efficiency. Mike clearly understands his trade and has an excellent grasp of the amount of details involved. The project went as perfect as it could be. As someone that has been in business for over 30 years dealing with decorators, designers and trade professionals on a regular base, I can assure you that Mike-0 has his trade down to a science. Mike Rogers did an amazing job designing our fixer upper we purchased in the San Luis Obispo Area! He was attentive to our vision, and incorporated his expert design ideas to turn our house into a cozy, contemporary living space. He brought in an excellent team of contractors and managed the details of each stage of our renovation! He was meticulous to the selection of wall colors, wood flooring and kitchen design. He tied the whole kitchen and living area together and created an open concept we love! Mike was fabulous to work with and is a wonderful individual! Mike-o remodeled our commercial space, that had not been updated in 30 years! It was quite a challenge to work around old plumbing and building materials, but Mike-o was good about going with the flow and coming up with solutions for everything. There were a lot of people to please with this project, as we have customers and a large amount of staff in and out of that room. In the end, we were thrilled with the design and flow of the space. Mike-o was able to bring in the feeling from our beautiful landscaping and views, and incorporate it into a modern, clean feeling. We look forward to working with him again.

Mike did a fantastic job designing and selecting furniture for my new living room! It was a very challenging space to furnish and he knocked it out of the park! Mike is great at taking a vision and making it reality. He has excellent connections and even had things custom designed just for me! This is the second time working with Mike and I would definitely use him again! Five stars!

What started as a simple deck clean-up project, Mike-O turned into an amazingly creative and beautiful extension of our home! Mike listened to what we wanted out of the project, mostly to bring the outside in, and designed and implemented a living space beyond what we could have imagined. He had the unique ability to build on what already existed, and added custom touches with an eye pleasing blend of texture, depth, and warmth, all with attention to detail and the environment in mind. I found these qualities to be his strengths. He created and extended a space for us that was aesthetically pleasing, practical and fun to hang out in or to just enjoy the view from. Mike went above and beyond to design and create a project for us that was done professionally and with a lot of heart.

Mike is an amazing designer. I first met him at his Spanish style house that he had completely remodeled inside and out. I was awestruck. The detail and craftsmanship in every part of the house was clearly thought out to create a home that is simply a work of art. It was beautiful. Since then I've hired him to remodel our 1950's home and the landscape, as well as an investment property that we decided to sell. On our home Mike listened to our ideas and transformed what we tried to communicated about our taste in design into a functional beautiful environment that we love. He redesigned our kitchen, living room, bathroom and master bedroom, removing walls, picking out all new cabinets, counter tops and paint as well as new furniture or in many cases having pieces custom made for a fraction of the cost. This is one of his greatest talents. If he can't find a piece of furniture he is looking for, he finds craftsmen that can build it. As for our investment property, when we decided to sell it we hired Mike to come in and do his thing. Without spending too much money he transformed an older town home into a clean, contemporary beautiful property that sold immediately in a somewhat sluggish market.

Mike did an awesome job remodeling my kitchen, master bathroom, guest bathroom and family room. Mike's ability to select colors, fixtures, appliances, accessories and furniture to reflect my tastes is amazing. He managed the entire project from design through implementation and delivered on everything he promised. He brought in his team and closely supervised their work. With Mike in charge the results exceeded my expectations. This is the first remodeling project I have undertaken and,I will admit, I was nervous. However, working with Mike was a great experience and the results are fantastic. I am looking forward to hiring Mike again as we upgrade the rest of the house.

We started with just a kitchen remodel-to take down a wall and open things up. Mike came in with such a vision!! We ended up opening up another wall to make the entire kitchen, living, dining area look bigger and totally fabulous!! The old furniture went out. Mike helped us pick out some spectacular pieces that look awesome in our remodeled areas. He worked with the art work we wanted to accent and made it pop. We absolutely love the end result!!
