Michael Dertien: Architect

I would highly recommend Michael. He was very knowledgeable and professional. Our new home is so beautiful. With his expertise we were able to design the home of our dreams.

My wife and I were very hesitant to use an architect however after looking at literally hundreds and hundreds of floor plans we could not find exactly what we were trying to find for our home. Michael Dertien was referred to us by a close family friend who had a great experience working with him and that is exactly the experience we had with Michael. He was extremely attentive to our desires and was a true pleasure to work with. It was our first time to work with an architect and we never felt pressured, rushed or intimidated by his services. Michael gave us tons of advise with our house plans but also pointers when we actually begin to build our house. Michael also had tons of ideas and suggestions for our floor plan and we agreed to most of them but a few we decided against purely out of personal preference and he was great to work with us on those ideas. Michael worked as fast or as slow as we desired and was very accessible via email or phone. We could not have asked for more or had a better experience. We would highly recommend Michael Dertien.

Michael drew the plans for our 8000 square foot house (5500 square feet under air). He knows what he is doing. We hired him because we knew he had been the architect for many custom luxury homes. He is super polite, endured all of our plan changes (and there were many), and stayed with his original estimate for his services. Our builder was very pleased with the plans because they were detailed and easy to follow. He is complete in his drawings, prompt to make changes, and very easy to work with. We highly recommend him as the architect for custom luxury homes.

Michael Dertien is great to work with. Not only do his architectural and design expertise surpass his peers, he is very personable and enjoyable to work with. He made scheduling appointments and meetings flexible and negotiable, and consequently, the entire planning process went very smoothly. Michael helps you consider price consequences of certain choices and designs, and also gives you furniture templates so that you can make sure your furniture will fit in the space you are creating. His knowledge of the current building codes is extremely helpful and ensures that the projects run efficiently. For example, rather than putting in a television on the wall over your jacuzzi tub, only to find out later that you don't pass inspection and must uninstall it or encase it in unslightly plexiglass, Michael would inform you during the planning process that the state codes says that all electrical has to be X feet from the tub to pass inspection and suggest making that wall wider to accommodate a built in screen. As a homeowner, my experience with Michael was so unparalleled. Not once did he make me feel inferior because of a question I asked, and he never lost patience with me when I was indecisive. After designing our home with Michael Dertien, I knew that I would recommend him to all my friends, family and acquaintances, and my husband, the owner of a Vela Construction (Custom Homes), began referring all our clients to him as well.

Michael is a wonderful architect to work with. He has done two house plans for me and was very easy to work with on both. He is always up to date on the latest designs and trends as well. Any changes done to the plans are done very quickly and he is always prompt scheduling the next meeting and being on time.

Mike was the architect on the first custom home I built. Suffice it to say that every time I think I need to sell and do it again, I look around and realize how perfect my house is! He has a great talent for maximizing floor space and creating a home that will not only suit your needs, but will stay in budget!

I have known Michael Dertien for more than 10 years. My initial contact with Michael was when my then husband and I was thinking of adding an additional to our home. When this was found to be too expensive, Michael led us to Dan Wilson to build our new home. Since that time, Michael has designed my office building. I'm a practice OB/GYN. After my divorce, Michael design my new and current home. At this time Michael lived in another city!! Michael is very easy to work with!! His designs are beautiful!! My patients love my office!! Michael designed a major addition to our barn/house. The whole project required very innovative thinking to make this project functional and balance the look of a home within a barn/and outside of the the barn.
