Northern Virginia Interior Designer - Best of Houzz 2013-2020!

Born into an Italian family of designers and artisans, design is second nature. Growing up with a mother who is a famous children's clothing designer and a father who was a builder, my entire life revolved around designing beautiful things. This led me to receive a degree in Architecture. My clients have found that the combination of my design skills and degree in Architecture, provide me the unique ability to see the full potential of their space. Provide overall Interior Design and Decor for the whole house or just a couple rooms. Room design, paint color consult, furnishings, accessories, window treatments, flooring, lighting, etc. Kitchen and bathroom design, basement design and re-design and overall help with selecting any and all finishes. After 2020 my wife and I really had to decide to love our house or list it. We met with Marisa and from beginning we knew that we would at the very least, love her. Whether she turns our current house around or even the next house, we knew we loved her. Great energy, vision, taste and so easy to work with. I am usually by nature very hands on and meticulous on anything I do; especially our house that we are supposed to live in. I am also extra organized and plan oriented. So I very very rarely can let someone just take over a project. A few weeks into the project, I let all decisions go to Marisa. We have so much confidence in her that we just let her make the decisions and come to us with major questions or choices. She is an artist. She envisions something and later when you see it, you're just like, WOW! We started with the plan of doing one entire floor and she and her team were so good that we are now doing the entire house. I can't say enough about how great she is. I just wish I had more houses to keep her busy with my projects.

We have been working with Marisa on our new build and she has been an incredible help! I only regret that we didn't hire her sooner as we could have used her valuable advice while designing the floor plan. From the beginning, she was very flexible in terms of what we wanted to accomplish. We weren't ready to fully furnish every room and she was willing to work with us on just exactly what we wanted. She expertly helped us choose finishings for the house and she is even able to help find a compromise between the different tastes that my husband and I have! We have very limited knowledge in this field and she is so patient with us. We love her and look forward to continue working with her until our whole house is done!

My husband and I hired Marisa to help us downsize into a new-construction condo. We had a wonderful experience the first time we worked with a decorator, but Marisa did not meet our expectations.She was helpful in mapping out the floor plan, designing custom built-ins, and establishing a cohesive color scheme for our large, open-plan space. We were disappointed, however, that she did not respect our budget, which we reviewed with her at the outset and which she said was realistic. She assured us that she had a skilled carpenter who would make the built-ins and an experienced, high-end upholsterer to make over two chairs and an ottoman. Unfortunately, the carpenter never showed any interest in taking the job, and the reupholstery work was amateurish – poor welting, frayed edges, and shapeless throw pillows. Marisa frequently said she was “crazy busy,” and we felt that she never took the time to try to get to know us and understand our tastes and why certain antiques and artwork were important to us.

This review is surprising because I in fact paid great attention to the budget and their style. It did make it more difficult, but I was very conscious. Ultimately the client purchases whatever they want so if they go over budget that is their decision. Sometimes I can't find anything a client likes at a certain price point and then it's up to
the client.

Each piece of furniture that this client purchased, they were very happy with. There was a dresser, a small chair, the fabric for the furniture and pillows as well as some rugs. There was not one complaint about the design or the items they purchased. They expressed how pleased they were. There was a console from a higher end company that was extremely delayed and came damaged, of course not my fault. With COVID for the past 2 years, that is the norm. More things than ever need to be fixed and we may wait a year for some items. I worked with the manufacturer and the receiver to get it fixed promptly.
During COVID the past 2 years we've all been learning how to handle the overwhelming requests and that goes true for everyone in this industry. We're STILL learning. Aside from the requests, the carpenter had health issues and other personal issues. It wasn't that he wasn't interested, it's that he wasn't available.
I've used the upholsterer a number of times with no issue. He's even used by others to fix upholstery if it's damaged during delivery. Sometimes that means reupholstering a whole chair. Again, this was during unprecedented times and we don't know what he was dealing with and I'm sure he too was overwhelmed. I will say, he never charged us to reupholster a large ottoman and 2 side chairs. I honestly didn't see any issues with the ottoman. I did see some issue with the chairs. Everyone has bad days and I guarantee he was rushing due to the amount of work he had. BUT again, we didn't pay for the work.
I am a one man show and do my best to make everyone happy. I've learned that it's not always possible and not everyone is a good match for every designer. Fortunately I've had many many more positive experiences than negative and the majority of my work, and carpenter's work is repeat and referral. Having a less than satisfactory experience with a designer doesn't make for a bad designer or bad client, they're just not good together.

Marisa is excellent to work with and provides excellent designs and guidance. Our home in Ashburn is 23 years old and the bathroom was showing it's age for sure. We contacted Marisa and once she visited our house she was able to immediately (I mean on-the-spot) recommend a general direction for the changes. She then put together a complete design, got our approval, and then helped us choose the tile in the shape and colors we liked along with the vanity and wall paint colors. The results are fabulous!! We couldn't be happier with our main-bath redesign. My wife and I highly recommend Marisa for design expertise that will transform a home from outdated to outstanding.

Marisa has been absolutely incredible to work with. We’ve been living in our home in South Riding, VA for 17+ years and it’s time for some re-modeling for sure. Marisa is very patient with us as we basically are doing it room by room but spread out over a span of time. This is our first time using an interior designer and now we will never redo a room without her advice. She is a ‘creative genius’ as my husband says. She has great ideas and really listens to her clients. She knew within minutes of meeting with her our style that we were interested in and offers many suggestions and options tied around a basic color scheme. Our next project is our kitchen and she’s already shared amazing ideas with us. Marisa is patient, kind, creative, a great communicator, and always available. We are so thankful each day that our contractor, Ray Gibbs suggested her!

Marisa is a true professional. To begin lets say that without Marisa our new house would probably stay contractor grade off-white for many many years with mismatched furnishings. Marisa immediately recognized our style and design preferences and hit the ground running. As a client I enjoy learning/researching about products and giving my input and Marisa allows for this. Communication has been outstanding in all aspects. Marisa makes the task of designing a space fun and a very enjoyable experience. The end product will show the high standards of design one would expect from a true professional. Would highly recommend.

It's been over 3 years since Marisa helped remodel our master and basement bathrooms. I just realized I never wrote a review! This was our first remodeling experience and we knew we needed help with the design. Marisa was good at evaluating our styles, providing rationale for what worked and didn't, and combining into a beautiful finished product! She was able to provide a functional space while showing us finishes that were easy to clean and low maintenance (a requirement for us). We appreciated how responsive she was, answering any question we had. There was 1 time when I was unsure about the shower floor tile/grout that she chose and was installed. When I contacted her and the contractor, Marisa was understanding and said they'd change if we didn't like it when it came together. Of course she was right and the shower came out beautifully! She even gave advice/options for our other spaces. We still continue to love our bathrooms and appreciate Marisa's great design!

We found Marissa based on a community Facebook recommendation. We have never used a designer before, but found her invaluable on a full house renovation. We first realized her value to us when she took us to the large tile showroom and helped us quickly narrow down to the exact perfect one! There were so many small decisions that we didn’t even know we needed to make, and Marissa made it easy. She listened to our preferences and helped us track down mirrors and lights that I had taken pictures of off TV or Pinterest. Marissa always sent us multiple choices of items and took care of ordering everything for us. Just when I thought we could surely choose our own carpet for our bedrooms, she had a better color idea! She is very professional, knowledgeable and enjoyable to work with. We highly recommend her services!

I recently did a basement remodel and hired Marisa through my contractor. I had a vision of how I wanted the basement to turn out and Marisa got it. All the recommendations she made from tile, to color scheme, to accessories were just perfect. I did try to influence her with some of my ideas and she steered me in the right direction. Marisa is extremely professional in her interactions. She is also very responsive to emails and text, which I totally love and appreciate. She also makes the process very seamless when it comes to ordering materials and scheduling deliveries etc. My basement finaly got done and I love it! We recently designed and built our dream home then next needed to hire an interior designer. We found Marisa Moore on Houzz. Her reviews were stellar and we loved her style and designs she helped create for her clients. This was our first time working with a designer and other than beautiful and modern we weren't exactly sure of the direction.
