Hi, I’m Sue De Ats, Since spending many cherished childhood hours experimenting with a sewing kit, I’ve always had a deep fascination and joy for textiles. Especially the endless possibilities they provide for two of my greatest passions – fashion and interiors. Having built a reputation and contacts in this arena, I then branched out into consultancy, providing quality assurance services to clothing retailers, including Boden, Oasis, Charles Tyrwhitt and Debenhams. Although this proved rewarding in a corporate sense, I always had the desire to give rein to my more creative side which I knew would give me a far more fulfilling work-life balance, fuelled by the everyday stimulation of working with clients to bring their ideas to life. It was just a matter of taking the plunge! Encouraged by my husband and 2 teenage daughters, maison fabrique was born in 2011. And I’m happy to say that I’ve never looked back. The more clients I work with, the more my personal design influences evolve: from vintage costume to the modern catwalk; from the clean lines and finishes of 30’s architecture and the elegance of Art Nouveau to the vibrancy and colour of ethnic prints.
