I would not recommend Maine Traditions for your home. We recently did a project in which we experienced very poor milling of the product, the tongue and groove was extremely tight, and every piece was a task to install. After 2 days and only achieving about half the floor being completed, we had great concern about warmer months and moisture popping the top of the groove. We measured the moisture level for the floor and subfloor and both were at 7%, which is 3% under the manufacturer requirements. When the floor issue was brought to the attention of the manufacturer, the representative instantly blamed the homes' conditions, which was not accurate. Our company installs a couple dozen wood floors a year at the very minimum, so we are well versed in determining how long to let flooring acclimate.
After finally getting them to agree to replace the flooring we started the install for a second time, mind you our clients had now been without their kitchen for 6 weeks at this point. After installing about 6 rows of the new batch we noticed a problem with the finishing process, almost every row had a visible line of raw wood. At this point we stopped and made our vendor aware of the problem who in turn made the manufacturing representative aware. We decided at this time to move in a different direction for a solution on the flooring. As you can imagine our team had a great deal of time invested in the initial install and the removal of the defective flooring, defects that were clearly manufacturing related. Our company submitted an invoice to our vendor which ended up being denied by the manufacturer's distributor. I find this lack of action to be unacceptable and not a business practice that our company wishes not to be affiliated with. These manufacturing issues caused great delays in the overall project, causing added and unneeded stress for our clients. In the end we found a product through Somerset Floors that our client was accepting of, we ordered it and installed with no issues. The floor was 99% complete after 1 day as it should have been originally. Our vendor will be compensating us for the lost time and aggravation. I can only speculate that this will leave a bad taste for them as it pertains to Maine traditions.
