Landsystems offer a broad spectrum of services in addition to these specialties. The Landsystems design philosophy emphasizes natural harmony, a holistic approach, and scientifically sound ecological principles. Landsystems and Associates, founded in 1986 by Linda Shotwell, is a collaborative team of professionals dedicated to ecological, site-appropriate landscape design. Our wide network of local consultants and excellent relationships with local agencies broaden the expertise of services offered and assure project success. Linda Shotwell, principal designer, is committed to innovative design solutions that integrate function, style and budget. She is responsible for conceptual and final designs, specifications and detailing, field construction administration, contract negotiations, project management, budgeting and scheduling. She brings over 30 years of experience in the field to each project. Linda’s noteworthy career accomplishments include the landscape design and specifications for the Gold LEED Certified Hayward Building Systems Facility in Santa Maria, California. Another career milestone was the design, specifications and field construction administration for a 400-acre watershed restoration. The project was implemented in conjunction with the Morro Bay National Estuary Program, under the jurisdiction of the Environmental Projection Agency and the Regional Water Quality Control Board. Her designs have won the Obispo Beautiful Award for Residential Landscape Design and the CLGA Statewide Trophy Award (1st place).

We highly recommend Linda Shotwell of Landsystems & Associates. We hired Linda to help us fix several trouble spots in our yard and she completely succeeded. We worked with her over a two year period extensively and still call her from time-to-time. She's creative, fun, and easy to work with. Our yard is drought-tolerant with mostly native species. Linda has extensive knowledge of native plants and very good ideas how best to use them given the site conditions. One final comment. She's a good collaborator; she listened to what we wanted and worked with our wishes. She did not try to impose a solution without taking our desires into account. Hire her.

Landsystems was up for the challenge of a newly constructed home situated on an ocean facing up-sloping bluff top lot. They were knowledgeable of native plants that complemented the style of the home while being sensitive to drought tolerance requirements. They were able to handle the complete job from start to finish, including design, irrigation, drainage, hardscape and lighting. The job was done on time, within budget and to the satisfaction of the owners. The result was an example of artistry in landscaping!

I am so happy to have found Linda Shotwell when I was designing my new home landscaping. She is so very knowledgeable and really an artist when it comes to designing. She literally paints a beautiful landscape. She met us at the lot and we simply talked about what our vision was. And she really listened! The initial plan she gave us was perfect. I am pretty picky and I did not have to change anything. She really nailed it! Fourteen years later my landscaping looks beautiful as it matures. My neighbors all say I have the most beautiful landscaping! I highly recommend her and would enjoy using her again if ever I needed to.

I have known Linda Shotwell for over twenty years. We met when I was teaching irrigation classes for the ITRC at Cal-Poly. In the past, she would occasionally contact me for irrigation design consultations for her landscape design projects. Now, with her decades of experience, she is an irrigation expert in her own right. She is also an expert horticulturist and donates time to the Master Gardener Program of San Luis Obispo. In addition to her science and technical skills, she is also a gifted landscape designer. Not only are her designs artistic, they are also environmentally sound and water efficient. I have, and I will continue to recommend her professional landscape design and water management services.

Our contractor, Frank Cullen of Cullen Construction, whose judgment we respect most highly, recommended Landsystems and Associates when we were building a new house. We worked with Linda Shotwell. She developed a beautiful landscape plan for us: hardscape, plantings and a great rainwater catchment and irrigation system. Her knowledgeable advice helped us make many tricky decisions about planning the landscape using natural features, establishing cultivated and wild areas that attract birds and bees, using native plants, and harvesting rainwater for use in the drip system. The garden has been going strong for two years now; her work is thorough and her follow-up terrific.

Linda Shotwell provided design, construction drawings, and construction administration for landscape and irrigation replacement in connection with an existing 120-unit, 7 acre apartment project, part of a $5 million renovation and upgrade project for which our firm was the architect. She achieved remarkable water savings and aesthetic improvement, while solving a number of problems such as conflicts between overgrown trees and new solar systems. As with all of her work on our projects, Linda exhibited a profound knowledge of contextually and climatically appropriate plantings, as well as an ability to work effectively within budget limitations.

The drawings the y produce are clear concise and accurate. Linda works with the client t get the best results while working within their budget.budget. Landsystems designed the entire landscape of a custom home we built on acreage approx. 15 years ago, as well the front yard remodel of my current home in town. In both cases the design and plant selections were spot on and executed within the budget we had allocated. I have strong feelings about the the type of plants and the overall look I want to achieve and Linda was very methodical about reviewing my plant lists and making suggestions for better alternatives while still achieving the desired look. Besides occasional weeding, my yard is almost maintenance free, yet interesting and pleasing to the eye. I receive frequent compliments on my landscape even 5 years later. Thank you Linda and Landsystems.
