Lighting By Design

Wayne approached me for a client of his. The idea was for a table with a clear resin backlit feature running through the centre. Wayne visited the workshop several times during the the project and was always very clear on the details, with drawings and immediate feedback with phone calls and emails. It was a pleasure to work with Wayne.

Wayne and I worked together to realise a glass sculpture into a chandelier. He created the ideal lighting system to suit my sculpture, and the location, which pleased the clients.

Wayne worked on the refurbishment of my house in Cheshire and later of my flat in London - I had no hesitation in engaging him again! I was delighted by the work he did, the advice was professional at every stage, the project management was efficient, the design process involved me fully. The creative and imaginative bespoke lighting in each space has enhanced both my properties and added to the quality of my home environment.

We had some difficulty in selling our 4 bedroom, ground floor flat in South Hampstead in 2015, and feedback from various viewings agreed that the left hand side of the flat where the bedrooms were situated was less well lit than the three high airy reception rooms on the right hand side. The contrast between the two sides made this particularly noticeable. With this in mind therefore, I engaged "Lighting By Design" to put a proposal forward for relighting the entire flat, particularly the central corridor and the left hand side. They produced a very impressive plan with "art gallery" spot lighting for my art collection in the central corridor and bright surround LED lighting in the bedrooms, all of which can be controlled by dimmer switches, as well as, multicoloured "Mood Lighting" in the library/dining room. The effect completely revitalised the flat and was a particular selling point for all subsequent viewings. It certainly was a major contributor to the sale of the property at a - still - record price for the area! I would certainly, whole heartedly, recommend Wayne Mottishead and his expert team at Lighting By Design for any bespoke lighting purposes.

I am a busy London lawyer who found LBD (principal: Wayne) by googling in 2016 when I wanted some WOW factor added to a loft conversion. My partner and I were looking for quality and elegance (on a reasonable but not unlimited budget), from a lighting designer with an extensive knowledge of the latest technology and products who also properly understands design. Not just lighting design, but also interior design, in order to produce a room in which the lighting and interior designs work together to create a range of 'feels', depending on the occasion or one's mood. We loved what Wayne suggested for the loft bedroom, so asked him to design the loft bathroom lighting and re-do the lighting in other parts of the house, including the hallway. It was hugely successful, and we still derive pleasure daily from the lighting he designed and installed. Consequently, later in 2016 I asked LBD to design all the lighting and AV installations for a completely dilapidated grade II listed house I had just bought nearby. LBD designed all the indoor and outdoor lighting, the related electrical infrastructure, and all the high tech (giving access to lights, music, blinds and security cameras via a house iPad and family iPhones). He also undertook some special commissions along the way (like the dining room table you can see on the website). Two years later, the whole house and grounds are virtually finished, and my family and I - and our guests - all consider the final results to be nothing short of stunning. The pics on the web site - as impressive as they are - are not nearly as impressive as the actuality of standing in the house or in the garden at night, listening to music wherever we wish and with all controls at our fingertips. Wayne is a fusion of a talented designer, a skilled technician, a perfectionist, and an expert in what products can be found and where to find them.

Wayne is a highly knowledgable lighting designer who would be a great asset to have on any design project. He is collaborative when approached with unconventional ideas and his work beautifully enhances the end result.

Wayne helped to design and install our complete ground floor lighting and AV installation from start to end. His casual and relaxing style helped in the initial consultations and his past lighting experience was a real benefit when working through all the options that were possible from a lighting aspect. Wayne was always available to answer questions and help advise as we completed our build and offered up options to enhance the final visual and audio effect. The final fit by Wayne was extremely efficient and he was very flexible around our other workman on our project. The final finish was exactly as promised and his after sales interaction went above and beyond what you would normally expect.
