It’s been six years since we worked with Kurmak renovating our living area which included a complete new kitchen. It turned our “house” into our “home”. This past year based on Calgary climate we started noticing some issues with our kitchen crown molding. The joints were starting to shrink and pull apart. Based on our past relationship with Kurmak it was easy for us to contact Frank with our concerns. Within a couple of visits with one of his skilled craftsman [Edward] was able to repair the joints as if they were new 6 years ago. The experience instilled with us as to why we chose Kurmak Builders to begin with. It has been a very pleasant experience.

We opted for a whole house renovation. We cannot praise Kurmak enough for not only being a delightful working experience, but also the quality of their work on our renovation. It was a joy to work with Frank, Paul, Tarl, Anne and Kim. Lisa , our designer, was phenomenal. Her passion, flair and eye for detail along with her solid advice was second to none! The whole team is professional, dependable and approachable. They use highly skilled tradespeople and stand by their work. We met, regularly, and were always aware of how the project was progressing, and if there were choices or decisions to be made. Our home has been completely transformed into an open,warm and very inviting space. We have no hesitation in recommending Kurmak especially if you want professionalism and high quality workmanship. We recently completed a renovation of our whole upper floor, installing a new bathroom and redesigning the layout to enlarge the master closet and ensuite. We interviewed a few builders but were very impressed by the professionalism and the honesty of Kurmak Builders, and really liked that they had an inhouse designer that we would work with. From the start, they were very clear about budget and timelines and continued to communicate this to us throughout the process, even as we continued to change the original plans. We were happy with the overall quality and service and consistent communication on all aspects of our build and the core team at Kurmak were all great to work with. In particular our main contacts, being our site manager and designer, were very helpful throughout all aspects of the project and in many instances, went above and beyond to get things done on time (or as close to as possible given supply chain issues). Their team was respectful and considerate of our home and our lives as we lived in the home during the renovation. We would highly recommend Kurmak for any renovation project.

My husband and I decided to embark on a kitchen renovation and of course were a bit nervous about where to start, not certain on the process and price point. We contacted probably 8 or so companies to get an idea of cost, process and timelines and from that exact moment we knew that Kurmak Builders were the right choice. They were the only company that not only provided a quote, but the owner, Frank, followed up to explain the quote in detail and in person. The quote was very detailed and their pricing competitive. Once we decided to proceed with them and signed our contract, the entire process was easy to go through. They have a great platform that tracks all communication so nothing is missed, provides detailed schedules so you know what is happening when, keeps track of all selections and more importantly how your selections impact the overall cost of the project. We did have a slight delay with our countertop selection due to a defect that was caught before they were installed and the team went out of their way to provide alternatives or workarounds so our kitchen was more functional while we waited for the next shipment. The last part that has really impressed me has been the walk throughs, they ensure to check for any deficiencies and have scheduled quick touch ups as required, showing that they stand behind their work and ensure their customer is happy with the final product. Each person on the Kurmak team has been a dream to work with. Lisa was extremely helpful during the design and selection process and Tarl & Paul made navigating the schedules and the overall project a stress free experience. If we ever decide on future home improvement projects they will be our first and only call and would recommend to anyone looking to embark on a renovation.

Kurmak carried out a double bathroom renovation on our house. From beginning to end every aspect of the job was carried out with the highest level of professionalism that made the entire process happen as painlessly as possible. - estimate was clear and comprehensive - thorough planning and scheduling ensured that all work was carried out with no delays - the entire Kurmak team was 100% approachable, all requests or suggestions were willingly addressed - the on-line system ensured all selections were clear and unambiguous - the outcome exceeded our expectations We highly recommend Kurmak Builders and would use them again without any hesitation.

Kurmak developed my basement and they exceeded my expectations (I have high expectations). The process was much more pleasant then my experience with other contractors with the end product being exceptional. Allow me to highlight but a small sample of the differences I experienced between Kurmak and others who I worked with in the past: They billed their standard as a ‘mid tier’. I found that as we went through selections I never had to ‘upgrade’ the selection to obtain a great product: from the stone counters, to the cabinetry to the flooring – there was not one higher priced change that happened. I was surprised given that my previous experience was that the ‘initial’ sticker price always escalated, particularly with selections. The budget that was agreed, was the budget that was obtained. I never had to point out a flaw in workmanship. Initially, I would go to the basement daily and provide a list of items that were flawed. Every time I did, it turns out they had already taken steps to address and informed me of all the other items they identified. This was the first time I have not needed to fret over flaws – every one I noticed was always remedied (without me having to mention). Their eye for detail is top tier. The engagement of the in-house designer was a game changer. Although my better half has an eye for design, we both agree that the expertise that was provided significantly contributed to a build that is now the envy of anyone who visits. Every colour, every detail simply hangs together seamlessly. In a nutshell perhaps what says it all, if I am to do any upgrades or remodels there is only one company that I will do this with – Kurmak.

Our kitchen and main-bath renovations were our second experience with the Kurmak team. Frank’s expert management from design to completion, kept our renovation on track, on time and on budget. Lisa’s design expertise and artistic understanding helped us choose the shapes, functionality, and colours for all components in our updated kitchen and main bath. Paul effectively supervised our job and provided floor protection, demolition, management of the various trades, interim comforts like counters and sinks, and cleanup. Together, the team created beautiful spaces that function wonderfully and provide more storage than we thought possible. Casa Flores Custom Cabinetry played a big part in our renovation. Jolanda and Humberto’s team produced beautiful cabinets and open shelves. The new kitchen island adds form and function. Pacific Stone, along with Lisa’s input, helped us select countertops that are beautiful and bring all the new and existing kitchen and main-bath components together in a way that is pleasing to the eye. The plumbing fixtures from Canyon Plumbing were expertly installed and function as expected. After Eight Interiors provided and installed great backsplashes that nicely tie the cupboards, cabinets, and countertops together. The whole project was beautifully completed with fixtures from Cartwright Lighting and wall finishes from Timeless Painting.

Kurmak was a pleasure to work with from initial meeting to final delivery. Lisa took the time to get to know us and our design preferences. Frank and his team took the time to answer our questions and quickly resolved the issues that arose along the way. We appreciated their close attention to detail, their high standards, and their consistent follow up. Thank you for a beautiful new kitchen, bathroom and flooring!

This is the 3rd renovation we have done with Kurmak Builders and Susan Kennedy (Kennedy Design Group) and we were not disappointed. We decided to redo the finished basement. It originally was an awkward open space, which we completely redesigned. We redid a bathroom, changed a bedroom to a workout room with a murphy bed, added a theatre room and an office. We also removed an exterior door and replaced a picture window with French doors out to our garden, where we added an outdoor gas heater. Everything was done to Kurmak’s usual high standards. The basement is much more functional and has not lost the airy feel. The theatre (done with Adera Technologies) is amazing and has been used extensively since the COVID-19 outbreak.
