Kimberly Neuhaus was sensational - listening to our ideas and preferences and helping to bring them to life. She navigated some unusual hurdles with permits, neighbors, construction "surprises" and design changes as the project moved from idea to completion. Always professional! We love our home.

We had the pleasure of working with Kimberly and her team on a full-scale renovation of our carriage house in Fort Greene and are delighted with the outcome. In a typical brownstone renovation, it seems that architects roughly follow the same playbook to “re-imagine” the space. Ours was more unusual, being a carriage house with sightline and style limitations imposed by landmarks rules. This, along with our mandate to add another story to the building, not only made for first impression design challenges for Kimberly, but also required an understanding of the rules and customs of the various stakeholders to actually get the job done. Kimberly navigated landmarks and the DOB expertly, which was an important skillset to us and one key reason we hired her. We also hired her because we correctly sensed that she understood how families live and interact in a home. What we didn’t appreciate at the time was her ability to visualize multi-dimensional spaces from drawings, although one of her references had mentioned this when we spoke, so it shouldn’t have been a surprise. In our case, Kimberly used ceiling heights, volume and open space to make the house feel much larger than its square footage would imply, while managing to retain a cozy and warm feeling. All in all, we are very happy with the finished product and are happy to recommend Kimberly to others.

We hired Neuhaus Design Architecture for our Brooklyn Heights brownstone gut renovation. They were absolutely fabulous and a pleasure to work with. They saw us through the process from beginning to end (creating the concept, drawing the plans, selecting materials/finishes/appliances, the bid process, landmarks and DoB approval process, overseeing the actual job site). Their attention to detail was flawless. They were the ultimate professionals: always on time, incredibly attentive, and always listened to what we wanted and delivered beyond our expectations. We have hired Kimberly for four projects of varying sizes at our Park Slope brownstone over the last 11 years. The largest, several years ago, was a project installing central AC throughout. Her contribution at the helm was key! The most recent project (2015) was an update for a bathroom that was necessary due to an existing issue that predated Kimberly and our most recent contractors. This was not an easy project since we needed to remove a cast iron tub on the top floor without gutting the entire bathroom suite. She presented more than one option, keeping in mind budget, logistics, long term practicality and the overall style and aesthetic, successfully blending traditional with more contemporary design elements. I have high standards for quality of work and the final aesthetic, and I always sleep easier knowing that Kimberly is on board. She is professional, extremely organized, with great attention to the details. She has high standards when recommending contractors and subs. (I have also enjoyed working with her team member Laura Sehn through the years.) I often recommend Kimberly and Neuhaus Design to friends and I am happy to recommend her here!

Kimberly did an amazing job with every step of our brownstone renovation. I cannot recoomend Neuhaus Design Architecture highly enough. Kim Neuhaus has years of experience renovating Brooklyn townhouses, and her expertise is instantly apparent from the first meeting. She anticipated issues before they arose, expertly handled new issues as they arose, and has a long roster of excellent professionals to consult or subcontract regarding everything from major structural engineering issues to finely detailed finishes. She has an uncanny ability to understand her client's design sensibility but also had creative ideas and some of our favorite design features of our renovation were ideas she came up with and encouraged us to go with. When we ran into delays and lack of communication from our contractor she handled the contractor extremely well and truly served as an advocate for us throughout the project. I can't imagine what we would have done without her. Because she is such a consummate professional and so knowledgeable we found that our contractor and subcontractors trusted and respected her, and she worked extremely well with everyone on the job (including us). Moreover, she is extremely detail-oriented and was on top of every tiny aspect of our job and ensured that every bit of work was up to her high standards. We truly enjoyed working with Kim and Laura Sehn, another architect with NDA who is equally wonderful to work with.

I have worked with Kimberly of Neuhaus Design on multiple projects in my Windsor Terrace home. She is a wonderful architect with creative ideas and solutions to any problem you ask her to solve. Her work is meticulous and thoughtful; she is highly responsive and she works with some very talented tradesmen. Kimberly has a real affinity for old houses and has an excellent sense of how to blend period detail with more contemporary styling. I would highly recommend her for any project, large or small. She is very realistic about budgets and does her very best to make sure projects stay within budget. And she's a really lovely person to boot.
