Daybreak Interiors

We had the great pleasure of working with Kristen Mengelkoch of Daybreak Interior Design on a large house project. Kristen is a dedicated professional in her field, reliable, savvy, a good listener to the clients needs and a joy to work with. Her thorough and detailed communication throughout the project took the stress off us so we knew what to expect every stage of the project. Kristen honors the architecture of homes and works within the space to bring out the best in our personal style and interests. She doesn’t push a design trend or offer a “cookie-cutter” approach to home interior design, but instead, focuses on what will work best with our lifestyle and the shapes and colors that appeal to us. Our home is our haven. Investing time and resources with someone like Kristen was a very valuable experience.

We were delighted with the amazing work Kristen and Sam of Daybreak Interior Design provided for our kitchen remodeling project. Three aspects of their approach were greatly appreciated: 1) From the beginning, they took a great deal of time listening to our ideas and thoughts about the project, getting to know us better and to understand the aesthetic preferences we wanted for our home. 2) They were aware of our strong interest in blending old and new features from the existing kitchen and found creative solutions for tying the elements together in a very visually cohesive and aesthetically pleasing way, 3) Their choices for colors and materials were "pitch-perfect" - we were concerned, going into this project, that we would be overwhelmed with choices upon choices of sample materials. Kristen and Sam provided clear sets of choices, simplifying the process and giving us a much better sense of what the overall outcome would look like. The result was exceptional - a beautiful blend of new and old materials, with greatly improved functionality and work-flow through the space. In addition to the design work, we hired Kristen and Sam to manage the project and coordinate the subcontractors for us. They did a great job responding to the detailed requests from the various trades and suppliers. They tracked the bids and orders, and scheduled the work for each of the phases of the renovation process. They communicated clearly and promptly with all of the parties and made the process seem seamless from our perspective.

Kristen has helped us with several projects, most recently in 2017. In our Minnesota home, Kristin has helped us with artwork, furnishings and a major kitchen remodel and sunroom addition over the last 20 years. Kristin has been thoughtful and collaborative, getting to know us well and adding just the right elements of creativity and playfulness to our otherwise more conservative style. Recently, in our 2nd home in Florida, Kristin created a home away from home that was, at the same time, a beautiful vacation retreat. Again, with her help, the selection of artwork, furninshings, colors and textures are a perfect reflection of our taste and style. We have been lucky to be able to work with her for so many years!

Daybreak did an amazing project for us. They guided us through the reimagining of the first floor of our 20-year old home in a historic neighborhood. This included the most favored room of the house, our hearth room off the kitchen and the living room where we entertain. We ordered custom furniture with unique fabric treatments and special touches. We also asked them to remodel the basement level and bath. We love the results! Everything really pulls together and feels right. What a thrilling result we have now. The design team is easy to work with and has plenty of good taste. I really trust them. I would not hesitate to hire them again.

Kristen has helped us on two major projects (bath and kitchen remodel and a major expansion/update of our lake place). She is creative, timely, a true professional and we highly recommend her. In addition, she has helped us with smaller projects (e.g. accessorizing), picking paint colors for our new home, etc. Furthermore, we have recommended her to friends, all of whom have been very pleased with her help. Highly recommend Daybreak!

After our initial conversation, I knew that Kristen understood what we wanted and that she come back with ideas and plans that would create the end result we were hoping for. We have used Daybreak Interior Design for many projects and have been extremely satisfied each time. Kristen Mengelkoch is not only talented. She is thoughtful, knowledgable, thorough, timely and efficient. She manages all of this without ever being intimidating or impatient. Kristen really listens. Kristen has helped us with several projects, most recently in 2005. She helped us remodel 3 bathrooms and a master bedroom. We were and remain extremely pleased with the results--even 13 years later! Kristen is very professional and prepared. She spent time understanding what we were looking for and got a sense for our tastes. When she met with us, she had samples for us to look at, from specs on fixtures, countertops and paint, to fabrics. She provided scaled drawings detailing the work. She was great to interface with the contractor to make the process as smooth as possible. Projects came in on time and within budget. We definitely recommend her and we would love to work with her again!

We remodeled our lake home 2 years ago. Had a great experience with Kristen. We had never worked with a designer before and I wasn't sure we needed one. Looking back there's no way we could have done it without her!

My wife and I have worked multiple times with Kristen Mengelkoch, and she always has done fantastic work. She is incredibly knowledgeable about her field, and she's thoughtful about her approach to each project. Kristen's unique combination of humility and genuine passion for her work make her all the more effective. Kristen always puts the client first. If you live in the Twin Cities, you really should give Kristen a try. She's a delightful person and an amazing designer!

I have used Kristin for several projects including a recent kitchen remodel. She is a dream to work with, combining excellent listening skills with great creative vision. She has transformed some awkward rooms into amazingly beautiful and functional spaces. Kristen's interior decorating skills (colors, fabric, furniture placement, etc.) are first rate but what, in mind, really sets her apart is her ability to look at spaces and rethink and transform them in ways that have eluded others. I will certainly use her again.

Kirsten helped me with the design of our master bath and sunroom. Going into the project I sort of new what I wanted but I felt like I was not seeing all the opportunities that were there. Kristen was extremely professional and had good ideas. However, I didn't feel that she forced her taste on me. Best of all she worked directly with my contractor, especially when issues came up, which they always will in any project. The contractor said she had the best and complete plans to work with of any designer. I would definitely recommend her if you need help with your project planning.
