We have admired Ken's work for years and we were excited when he contacted us to create a beautiful Italian Limestone curved fireplace wall. I can only say very good things about Ken Gaylord and his company. They were a delight to work with. Ken designed my house and his company built it. I have a lovely home that I thoroughly enjoy. Ken scouted the site and put a lot of thought in placing the structure to take advantage of the site and to maximize the views. He also paid attention to ambient light so the house has some passive solar benefits which really does help - especially in winter. My power bills are minimal thanks to the attention paid to materials during construction. I continue to be impressed with his vision and forethought even though it has been over 20 years since construction.

I hired Gaylord Architect to develop plans for a home on a lot for me in Asheville, N.C. The project was both exciting and daunting. Gaylord's approach made this process much more exciting and a lot less daunting. The process was organized from start to finish; starting with an in-depth survey of our needs & wants for the home & a site visit to understand the lot's potential. Regular meetings to review and updates the plans as ideas were developed and dis-guarded as well as managing our wants against the budget to ensure that relationship remained in balance. The final plans were a combination of insightful Gaylord ideas based on the lot's dynamics , a detailed process of sharing ideas and managing the budget. Ken provides a unique design/build combination that allows a homeowner to follow their home from the conceptual stages all the way through to final construction. Ken has designed and built two homes for us that were very carefully thoughtout according to the characteristics of the property on which they were built. The quality of the workmanship that Ken demands from his craftsmen is impeccable. His homes are truly "custom" built in every sense of the word.

My family worked with Ken twice: once for a major remodel of our 70 year-old lake cabin, and once for a rebuild after we lost the house to a fire. Ken helped us to enhance and update the character of our home, and now we have a house that honors the original while feeling totally new and light. Ken designed a wonderful house for us, accommodating our ideas and satisfying our vision of our living space. It is truly unique. We were not completely satisfied with the on-site management of our construction, in particular, the details of the fit and finish; however, the final product met our expectations. BlackHawk was very responsive to our concerns and has addressed the source of the problem.

Ken Gaylord and Blackhawk Construction built our 642 sf AAC block cottage. Ken interviewed us to better understand what spaces we mostly inhabited in our former house. He listened very well. The cottage he designed is ideal for us. We have been living in this cottage since 2006 and it is amazing that, for it's size, it feels even more spacious than our twice the size former house. The details are cozy. We have window alcoves, which make the space intimate. The radiant floor heat is such remarkable; clean, silent and efficient. The views from our living space give one the feeling of being in a treehouse. Ken Gaylord worked with us, took the time to go over our concerns, stayed on budget and was complete with the work on time. How many people can say that about their new home?
