I undertook an extensive extension on my family home and was quite apprehensive about how to go about doing this. I contacted Kennet Design who came to the property and clearly explained the complete process to me from planning to structural calculations to the process of application. They spent a significant amount of time with me till it was all clear. During the process we also changed our mind several times about what we wanted. Kennet Design were very supportive and understanding and made several changes to the plans hapily. Throughout the two planning applications, all my queries were answered promptly and overall I am very satisfied with their prompt and professional service and would strongly recommend Kennet Design to anyone wishing to take their services.

This review is long overdue as our extension has now been completed for quite a while. However, this has given us the time to fully appreciate the success of this project and much of this is thanks to Karl! Karl was very generous with his time and thoughts at the planning stage. He arranged several visits with us and offered useful insight and suggestions which were well in tune with our vision of what we hoped to achieve. Plans were drawn up and revised willingly. Obtaining the required planning permission (AOOB, Conservation area) went through without a hitch and with no need for alterations. This was a great achievement (one, we had heard from neighbours, was rare!) and enabled us to start with our builders as planned and to stick to our time schedule. Karl was always available for help along the way and showed a great deal of interest in our project from start to finish even when his “work” had been done. Karl is a great person to work with which was the main reason we chose to work with Kennet Design having met two other architects. Our project was a lift conversion, two storey side extension and single storey rear extension to a 1930s property. Karl developed plans that matched or brief and enabled contractors to provide detailed quotes. He navigated some issues with the local planning department to ensure there were no delays on site. During the build he liaised directly with the builder when required and we are so pleased with the end result. Kennet Design would be my first choice for another project.

Just had to say a huge thank you to Carl for getting our planning permission through. We have a small grade 2 listed cottage and wanted to correct some of the work that had previously been done to it and also put a loo and basin upstairs!!!! From the very first phone call we had, he was so helpful, friendly and knowledgable. He knows his stuff. When we are ready to go ahead with the next stage of our project, i will be on the phone Carl (sorry you can't get rid of us)

Recently got my planning permission though. Process really well handled by Carl and plans and drawings spot on. Carl bought into my ideas, made suggestions which were additive and accepted and understood those where I was firm on. Really good collaboration therefore and a better end product as a result. When we started thinking about remodelling our house a couple of years back, hiring an architect was the part that concerned me most. We needed a firm that had the right amount creativity, but who would also create something that was technically robust and feasible. They also needed to be able to support an inexperienced but very opinionated client! Whilst it's fair to say that we kissed a lot of frogs in our search, it was worth it to find Kennet Design. Carl and his team did an amazing job right from the very first phone call, working with my wife and I to establish a design concept, providing advice and insight on how the ideas we had could be realised in a practical home, and guiding us through the minefield that is planning regulations. Kennet provided the designs for the interior and exterior, working to revise the plans based on our ideas and comments and gently but firmly pushing back when we suggested things that were either impractical or impossible. Recognising that we were working to a budget, Carl also identified areas of the build where we could reduce cost, whilst still delivering a finished result that looks a million dollars. Even with the restrictions placed on our concept by planning regulations, Kennet helped us to push the envelope to deliver more than we thought would be possible, including negotiating some pretty tricky feedback from the planning officer. I think it's fair to say that without Carl and Kennet Design we probably would never have ended up with an extension at all - let alone one that looks this good. If you're looking to undertake a project yourself, I couldn't think of a better firm to work with.

Carl was exceptional from start to end - he took a lot of time at each stage, first of all spending time listening to what we wanted and really listening to us as well as trying to give us a few options to consider. He gave us great detailed advice on how the planning permission process would go and initially after having an initial unsatisfactory verdict worked tirelessly with the council end in a successful conclusion and really went above and beyond!

I run a building firm. Kennet Design drew up several alternative outline plans for a client so that they could select the most appropriate for them. Once the client selected there preferred option, full-plans were drawn for submission to the Local Building Authourity. The plans were not immediately approved but given the tenacity and professionalism of Kennet Designs they explained fully how they fitted the locale and met all requirements and so the Authourity awarded full planning permission for the construction of the extension to dwelling and garden Room. We found the drawings to be extremely detailed and accurate with all of the information required to arrive at an estimate of construction easily. Carl, the actual architect from Kennet Design assigned to our project, was the ultimate professional: knowledgeable, helpful and polite, totally engaging with the client so that he fully understood their needs and how the building could best respond to them. With such service and skills we now use Kennet Design as our only recommendation for future clients including those in other local authourities.

Kennet Design did everything to get our house renervations ready to build (side return extension and loft conversion). This was from the initial survey of our property, consultation on our wants and likes to help input into the design, detailed designs, structural drawings, planning applications and all those little things you are not aware of. All this was complete with a friendly and professional stance. I can not recommend them highly enough they walked us through the whole process, gave advice, and put up with our changes as the project developed. They kept us informed throughout the process and Carl is always on hand to answer any questions. When appointing builders all commented how comprehensive the design and detail was meaning we could get accurate quotes. Been a smooth and happy process and looking forward to finishing the build.

I have worked with Kennet Design on many occasions over the past few year both as a buidling contractor working from there drawings and as a client when building my own property. I have found the quality of the drawings and client support to be of the highest standard.
