We live in the western suburbs of Chicago and wanted to build a Prairie Style home. We researched architects in the Chicagoland and surrounding areas and found Ken Dahlin and Genesis Architecture to design our home in the late 1990’s. Ken’s initial drawings captured our dream home in a way we could not have imagined ourselves. Ken and the team of Genesis Architecture are professional, dedicated, and great with communication. Ken was fun and easy to work with during the design and build stages, continuing to educate us and the builder on concepts of Wright’s principles and organic architecture. The very detailed blueprints of our custom home provided our builder and the subcontractors all the information they needed during the build process. When questions or problems came up, Ken was available to work on solutions with the builder and our village. Our home was completed in August 2001. We have been in our dream home for over 22 years and still love it every day. Fantastic experience with Genesis! We needed to renovate an awkward 1970s kitchen addition within our 1953 Hans Geyer designed home. Ken designed the kitchen/dining/powder room/hall spaces which were completely gutted and gave us the entertaining space we had always wanted while integrating and repeating the key MCM design elements from the rest of the home. The first comment everyone makes when seeing the remodeled area is "this looks like it is the way it was always supposed to be". We could not be happier with the newly remodeled spaces and the way in which Ken's design flows into the original architecture. He is a true professional and a master of Mid Century design.

We moved to Racine from Oak Park, Illinois about three years ago to be closer to our grandchildren and Lake Michigan. We were attracted to the view and the surrounding South Side Historic District architecture. But the 1920’s home we purchased was a neglected, aluminum-sided mess. It had drafty windows in six different styles, a sagging DIY front porch, and had been stripped of all its original exterior style and character. Ken Dahlin’s thoughtful plans restored our home’s Arts and Crafts style with 21st century building materials, which will require minimal maintenance and hold up to the harsh lakefront weather conditions. His attention to both the structural challenges of our sandy soil, and the detailed reconstruction of the historic exterior trim the house still impress us. The new front porch he designed fits the house perfectly and continues to draw compliments from the neighbors. I highly recommend putting Genesis Architecture at the top of you list for your next building or remodeling project.

It has been over 10 years since we built our home designed by Ken Dahlin but the enjoyment has never faded. Ken's vision and artistry captured our ideas and desires which we everyday appreciate as we walk through the house. His redesign was both thoughtful and stunning. Ken took the time to understand my family's needs and preferences and to really listen. There couldn't be a better architect than Ken Dahlin! He is brilliant. We have used several other architects in the past, both in Massachusetts and Wisconsin, and have never had such an extraordinary experience. His design ideas sing! He has flexibility and humility, and is easy and fun to work with. He knows how to respect the interplay of nature and structure, and used sites magnificently. He is just finishing a second project for us. The first project he did has been in use for five years now, and it has been a joy for living and working. We also used him for kitchen and interior design, and I find myself thanking him whenever I cook! He also works in a cost effective way, and both projects came in on budget! I can't imagine that anyone could find a better architect or designer anywhere!

We had been researching architects for a prairie style house for several years. We saw Ken's work at a home show in Milwaukee. We knew he was the right person from the start. Ken came up with a design that was better than we could imagine. He worked with us on changes to get exactly what we wanted. He understood the need to fit the home to our lifestyle. We wanted a custom home that blends the craftsman and mountain architecture styles into a custom lake home designed for our lake property and lake living. Ken blended mountain and craftsmen styles to meet our tastes. We started the design process with a list of functional and lifestyle requirements. Ken took our inputs and designed a home that fits our life style and the lake setting perfectly. The principal portion of those services lead to the construction our contemporary home in Lake Geneva, WI, that was completed in 2007, with the addition of an integral swimming pool in 2011. When we wanted to build a home based on Frank Lloyd Wright's Usonian Natural House elements we knew we would need to find an architect who was completely well versed in Wright's language and principles. We found that architect in Ken Dahlin of Genensis Architecture. An examination of Ken's work clearly demonstrates his respect and incorporation of Wright's principles in all of his projects. Although most of Ken's works were of a larger scale, he was clearly excited about our small home project that was more in line with the human scale espoused by Wright. From beginning to end Ken carefully assimilated our needs and desired Usonian details and produced a design that while, taking advantage of current building technology, captured the spirit of the Wright Usonsian home, as can be appreciated in the photos on his Houzz webpage. Ken was always accessible throughout the project and took the time to work closely with the builder and subcontractors to ensure the successful execution of the design. Having now spent 6 months in the house we have been delighted with the result and constantly discover new details which accompany a thoughtful design. We highly recommend Ken and Genesis Architecture for anyone looking to build or remodel.
