I bought a new home from Joy that was a tear down and replace. I primarily worked with Chris W on post-settlement customizations in Tandem with an interior design firm. Chris was outstanding in his timeliness, attention to detail and follow through.

Starting with the review of the architectural plan including electrical placement and specification and moving on to the selection of both interior and exterior building materials and color coordination. Joy Design + Build offers expert guidance directly to the homeowner or in tandem with the interior designer. Each project with Joy Design + Build is centered around an individual team, dedicated to listening to their client’s desires and the design professional’s guidance. I have been working with John Joy and his team for over 10 years. We have worked on numerous homes together. John and his team have expertly built homes we have designed from as small as 2,600 s.f. to over 15,000 s.f.. Each project is approached with the same care and service. From helping locating the land to the concierge service throughout the construction process the Joy Design Build team is there leading the process. The Joy Custom Design Build team is set up to take the worry out of the custom home process. Well built homes and a team of experts that are easy to work with.

We are thrilled with our new home. The care and detail taken in creating our new house was impeccable. The suggestions from John and his team added to the overall project to create a stunning home. We wanted an open and stylish design with lots of functionality for a young family with active children. The communal spaces are light and free flowing. The flow from inside extends to the outside loggia, backyard and pool deck, giving the home the feel of an additional family room. Great workmanship was displayed throughout the build process. I would recommend John Joy and his team to anyone.

John and his team did a fantastic job on our new home build in McLean from start to finish. It was truly a custom build, and John made it easy by finding a great lot and providing unique ideas for the layout of the home and interesting features we hadn't even considered. Marc oversaw the construction day-to-day and was terrific at keeping us updated on progress, anticipating issues/questions, and bringing the project to completion on time and exactly the way we had hoped. Great experience! We were looking for a lot in a specific area and John Joy found one for us in a few months. This was a 2nd custom home project for us, but wanted a completely different look. After seeing several Joy Homes and sitting with John and his design team with our ideas, we knew they were the right builder for us. Very nice team of people working together to create one of a kind custom homes. Their designer, Tara Richmond, was invaluable in assisting with our selections and timelines. She was our advocate, very professional and tirelessly helped us achieve our vision. She always has a smile on her face and is a true gem. Our project manager, Marc Shaw, kept things moving smoothly, could easily troubleshoot and was up for any design challenge. Anxious to move in before the holidays, Marc worked diligently with subcontractors to get our final permits in time and is always responsive. Feeling grateful to be in our beautiful new home with all our kids during this quarantine time.

John’s credibility and contacts made our house possible! We bought a troubled lot, which the county had placed countless restrictions on. After our first meeting we knew that John was the man to take on our challenging lot and that he had the proven record to work with the county to build our dream home. John and his team worked tirelessly and creatively to find a solution to each dilemma that we faced. Their depth of knowledge allowed us to bring our vision to reality.

We were referred to John and his team by a colleague of my husband's. It's true what they say about the authenticity of a word-of-mouth referral. Like so many custom home clients, we came to the table with years of ideas, pictures and wishlists. Lucky for us, John and his team were undaunted. Chris, our project manager, listened closely and worked tirelessly to bring our vision to life. He advocated for us when he didn't have to and earned our unwavering trust. He was knowledgeable, accessible, responsive and patient. Every member of the Joy team seemed to care about the details (sometimes even when we were exhausted with them). And this attention to detail is evident at every turn of our home. We recommend Joy Design and Build without reservation and will be spreading the word to our colleagues and friends.

It is difficult to imagine a better custom home builder than Joy Homes. For starters, it is the ideal size for a custom home builder: big enough that they have experience with (and relationships with) all the trades, and have the leverage and scale to help hold down costs; yet small enough that is a highly personal and custom experience. In addition, every request (and there can be many during a custom build) was met with a "can do" attitude, as the company is genuinely interested in making sure that the customer is 100% happy. John, our project manager, Tim, and all the other members of the team were available literally any time to address any issue, small or large. In addition, while we enjoyed making many customized selections, it was also a pleasure NOT to have to make certain decisions. For example, we simply used the company's standard interior doors, windows, trim, etc. - and everything turned out extremely well. You do have to put in the work to build a custom home -- but as other commenters have noted, Joy Homes makes it about as easy as possible. This company gets my absolute highest recommendation.

On a scale of 1 to 10 with 10 the highest score, I would rate the Joy Company at 10 for both quality of work and client responsiveness. I therefore never hesitate to recommend them highly however large, complex and challenging the project
