Jon Hensley Architects concentrates on new residential construction, additions and renovation projects. We bring to the table our commitment to listen attentively, respect parameters, and effectively navigate our clients through all phases of design and construction. The end product of this collaborative process are spaces that are thoughtful and efficient, reflective of each client's vision for their home. Jon Hensley formed Jon Hensley Architects after working with several DC-based architecture firms. Jon is a graduate of the University of Tennessee, School of Architecture and is a member of the District of Columbia Chapter of the American Institute of Architects. Jon is a registered architect in the District of Columbia, Maryland, Virginia and Florida.

Jon Hensley Architects transformed our 1950's multi-level house into the dream home we always wanted. Jon & Heidi were able to reimagine our kitchen and upstairs baths as to maximize space and update them in a way that is both very modern but warm and livable as well. They were able to handle specific challenges quickly and easily; such as having to stay within the thumbprint of our original home or having to reuse existing cabinetry in our kitchen but also help us make great choices that elevated the look of our project and were within our budget. Jon and Heidi were a pleasure to work with, responsive to our needs and able to quickly pivot as our vision expanded. We couldn't be happier with our "new" home and look forward to working with them again.

When we wanted to update a bathroom and redo our kitchen we turned to Jon. We've known him as a friend for years and appreciated his sense of style and design. Jon brought creativity, knowledge, attention to cost-effectiveness, and great professionalism to our project. Working within the constraints we had, Jon and his team provided excellent solutions. We are thrilled with the results. Also, going the extra step to assist us in choosing colors for spaces not renovated to draw it all together has improved the entire house.

Jon Hensley designed the floor plan after our family decided to lift our 1929 craftsman bungalow 2 feet and make the unfinished basement into another floor of the house. We added 3 bedrooms, a bathroom, family room, laundry room, and a storage room. Jon was able to maximize using the footprint of the house with his design in a way that was creative and in a way we had not considered. He was extremely pleasant to work with, on time with drawings, and helped us maneuver through the Arlington County permit process. My husband and I highly recommend him.

My husband and I first saw JHA's work at a local Home & Garden show where one of their projects was featured. We were immediately taken with the design and hoped to achieve something similar with our 1955 brick raised rambler. JHA helped us realize our goal and the icing on the cake is that everyone at JHA is a pleasure to work with. Our project wasn't without challenges -- Jon and Heidi helped us to navigate through those challenges with an open ear, patience and solid advice and design. The JHA team was professional, easy to communicate with, and very accommodating of our busy/schedules and family life. Their work reflects thoughtfulness and genuine care for the client. Jon provided builder recommendations for our project and that resulted in a great collaboration. Once the design phase was complete and construction began, Jon was an excellent advocate for us and ensured the quality of the work. Overall, I would highly recommend working with JHA and wouldn't hesitate to work with them again.

As a contractor, I have the opportunity to work with many different architects. I can state that Jon and his team get the lion's share of our referral recommendations because of his knowledge of both classic and modern styles, his responsiveness, and his experience with the regulatory agencies of all three states. Our projects with Jon Hensley Architects are our most successful.

My wife and I were referred to Jon by friends who renovated a townhouse around the corner. We are very glad we met Jon and his team because they did an outstanding job. Our home is just what we wanted. JHA was professional, efficient, and smart. We were active in the process of choosing the myriad of things that are needed for this gut renovation. JHA acted as our guide and put it all on paper so that the contractor had clear direction. I would recommend Jon and his team without reservation.

We worked with JH Architects to develop plans for a new addition and significant renovation to our newly purchased home. Jon and his team were a pleasure to work with, they developed several options for us to consider. The proposals were innovative without ignoring cost and the constraints of the house layout. In addition, Jon provided us with options for builders and helped insure the quality of the work. His ability and willingness to regularly interact with the builder to make sure everyone was on the same page was very helpful. We couldn't have asked for a better experience and outcome and would highly recommend JH Architects and his team.

We recently completed a project with Jon Hensley Architects and highly recommend them. Jon and his team designed a large porch addition for our 1951 rambler in Arlington. From the beginning, they listened to our ideas and turned them into a creative, comfortable and unique space. Now that we are living in the room, we can see the design details that make all the difference. From the paint and stain colors to the material choices, we are enjoying how the space blends seamlessly with our existing home. We think the best compliment is the response from friends seeing our new porch and saying, "Who is your architect?".

Jon Hensley Architects is one of five firms interviewed and ultimately hired. My 1939 Cape Cod home needed a major remodel to update systems and expand to accommodate a modern kitchen. Charmed by the brick structure and the original unpainted wood trim, I asked the firm to continue the theme for a seamless experience blending old and new. They provided three very appealing design concepts -- each solving the challenges in a different way. Sunny Evangelista Caroll was the designer on the project and her thoughtful touches made the design more than the sum of its parts. Damon Wright was brought in to handle the kitchen design and construction at the recommendation of Jon. The kitchen not only looks beautiful, but is fabulously functional! Damon's creative tile selection tied everything together for a timeless, yet modern appeal. Cedar Ridge Builders handled the expansion, shell and systems and did a beautiful job connecting the old house to the new addition. The team did such a good job on the flooring that you'd never guess where the old floor ended and the new began. Working with Jon Hensley was a great experience characterized by collaboration, creative problem solving, artistry and trust. I recommend Jon Hensley without reservation.

We have worked very well with JH Architects on an adidtion to our colonial brick house. They spent a lot of time with us to uderstand our needs and idea. They were always willing not only to listen but also to work out the implications of our, at times, bizarre ideas! Their suggestions have always been based on our views. They have often been able to reconcile quite diveregent opinions between my wife and myself on. JH Architects has produced an impressive amount of detailes drawings that our cntractor has found very valuable. They have also worked with our contractor in a very collaborative manner, taking on board whenver possible his suggestions, after consulting with us. They have met all the deadlines that we agreed up on. We believe our experience with JH Architects has beed much better than what we have with any other architect. Domenico Fanizza

Having previously seen the work of Jon Hensley Architects I hired them, without hesitation, to design a deck for a vacation home in Maine. The design was perfect and the finished product marries well with the existing house and the surrounding landscaping. Jon and Heidi suggested a good color for the exterior of the house -- something I hadn't planned on doing, but the result is more than perfect. I will hire them again when the time comes -- they were both a joy to work with and I can't recommend them enough.

Jon Hensley Architects did a fantastic job! They took our newly-purchased but very outdated condo at the Watergate in Washington DC and turned it into a modern, livable showcase. We're very opinionated, but they were always 10 steps ahead of us, showing us options, guiding (but not dictating) our decisions, and always right. They vetted contractors and helped us select (and they supervised) an excellent one. Terrific quality work. Our 2000+ square foot, 2-story condo went from a parquet floored, striped wall papered, 1960s box to a place with large-format industrial ceramic tiled floors, a state-of-the-art kitchen, terrific flow, bathrooms with unique granite and stone combinations, a glass-sided stair case, and an amazing "feel". All of this on time and within budget. We love it!
