We bought an old brownstone in Ft. Greene and hired Grand Renovation to renovate our duplex. They did a fantastic job. Extremely professional and great work. Their subs are amazing, which means the end result is beautiful, quality work. They are also very detailed oriented and very accountable for their work. FANTASTIC COMPANY!

Grand Renovation has done work for us on our Brownstone since we bought our house in 1989; but the scale changed enormously when we hired Grand Renovation to build an three-story extension at the rear of our building. The job included removing by hand soil and rock that filled 11 large dumpster containers. Significant steel work was required to support the rear wall of the house (since we were taking a big hole out of it). Also included in the job: the installation of central AC (with compressors and a large backup generator hoisted by crane and installed with steel dunnage on the roof). The back walls were replaced by floor-to-ceiling steel-and-glass Crittall windows and doors that are stunning. The new floors (and a couple of the old floors where there was access) were all fitted with radiant heat. We added a new kitchen (IKEA; looks great) with soapstone counter-tops from the soapstone specialist, M. Teixeira, in N.J. A new bathroom was added next to the bedroom, and the ceramic tile was installed with meticulous workmanship. The subcontractors that Grand Renovation uses represent relationships developed over many years. The craftsmanship is superb and the workers are considerate and helpful. The only subcontractors we experienced any problems with were the doorbell-intercom specialist (don't ask) and the IT/Audio guy who never gave us operating instructions. John and Brian Buchbinder, the owners of Grand Renovation, are scrupulously honest. John, who started the business, likes to build, and knows the ins-and-outs in detail of all the trades. The only flaw in our experience with GR was it was hard to manage the budget, which was probably due to the fact that we had a time and materials contract with Grand Renovation which did not have fixed cost constraints. So we went way over budget, but love the result.

I hired Grand Renovation to do a gut rehab of my Greenwich Village duplex (see the Morton Street photos). They did a terrific job, despite having to deal with an inexperienced architect (me) and very difficult working conditions (performing renovations in a NYC historic district is tremendously challenging). I was thrilled with the results, and continue to derive great pleasure from living here 4 years after completion. John and Brian and their employees are smart, capable and responsible. They also will give you an honest estimate, rather than underestimating the price and then surprising you with unexpected add-ons. This is rare in the contracting business.
