Jill Howard Design Studio

We hired Jill to help us update and renovate a 1960s creek cottage. We wanted to keep the original charm of the home while giving it a fresh, up-to-date look. Jill did just that - she transformed a dated, quirky house into a cozy, little gem! I love EVERYTHING she picked out for us! Jill is extremely talented and creative, and she is such a pleasure to work with - she has an innate sense of style and everything she does is well thought out. We plan to do an addition in the near future, and we will definitely be using Jill to help us!

Jill recently helped me with several aspects of a renovation project. I had the basic idea of the style and materials I wanted in my house and Jill was able to digest my needs on site and guide me in the best direction to reach my design goals. I found Jill's expertise and professionalism exceeded my expectations. I left the meeting with sketches and detailed notes of our discussions down to paint colors. Jill is knowledgable and is able to easily balance that fine line of giving incredible advise while allowing her client to express their own creativity and ideas.

Jill Howard Design Studio has worked in collaboration with our firm for over three years and she has been fully involved in the design and management of the projects we have worked on. During that time she was also working on projects of her own; clients whom she had worked with in the past. She has assisted me in working on the interior design of (2) very large luxury beach homes, a large NYC apt (3 bedrooms/ 2 baths - a gut renovation) and finally on various rooms for old clients. All projects were distinct in their design style - though of course, central themes run through my own work - themes which Jill was able to bring forth in her work on all of the projects. Jill is gifted in all (4) areas of importance in a project: the ability to work with the architect if there is one, she is an imaginative and skilled interior designer, she is very adept at all the management/ business aspects of a project from budgeting to ordering and she is an energetic, upbeat, thoughtful and kind team player to work with. In elaborating: 1 - It is a rare quality for the interior designer to be able to be sensitive to the work of the architect of the project. Surprisingly, few clients realize that an unsuccessful collaboration between interior designer and architect can often be the downfall of a project. Jill has the unique ability to see the development of the architecture in terms of how it will impact on her own interior design work later on. She is very professional in reviewing all aspects of the design process as it unfolds, and is very thoughtful and respectful in bringing up issues as needed with the architect and/or client if she has any concerns. She is always mindful of working towards solutions with the architect and client to yield the best possible project during all stages of planning; this can only enhance the final result in terms of continuity between the architecture and the interior design. Many designers tend to view design only from their own unique perspective; Jill brings much more to the design process overall and all projects benefit from this holistic view. 2 - Jill is an outstanding interior designer on several fronts. As a registered architect now fully immersed in Interior Design for many years, it was immediately clear to me how naturally gifted Jill is in thinking spatially and viewing all problems from an architectural perspective - which is often more rigorous a way to view design problems. Jill is able to start her design process with an architectural eye towards overall alignments, form and volume - before she fills out solutions with specific design choices. When she moves to the actual interior design process - she has a great eye for color, texture, and form. She is very good at picking all the materials, lighting fixtures, fittings etc. in creating a truly consistent project if this is needed. She is also exceptional in 'picking up' on a client's taste, at understanding client needs and an efficient problem solver. She gives each project the kind of individual attention, care and extraordinary eye for detail - that results in a project being truly personal to the client. Not only does she bring her good eye to a project but she has a vast array of resources which she draws from, a great knowledge of design forms and vintage designers and her design solutions often integrate new pieces and unique vintage ones from the past - when the budget allows. She has a very thorough knowledge of the marketplace and is sophisticated in her choices. She is a truly skilled professional on all creative fronts. 3- Jill has had many years of experience in managing all aspects of a project from beginning to end, and from budget to implementation. She is also able to maximize final design selections to fit within a client's budget through good planning. She has a great eye in deciding where to 'spend' money and where one can use a less expensive solution if it is needed. She truly understands how to run a project, and having a backround in business she has not only a creative mind but one which is pragmatically based - which is also of great help in any project. 4- Finally - not only did I find Jill a pleasure to work with - she was a constantly creative contributor to the design process and in the ongoing work with clients. She has worked tirelessly towards finding the right solutions, is always gracious, upbeat and kind. Our clients have adored her as I have.

Jill Howard was hired on two occasions by me to design our homes. She worked within my style choice, but also worked out of the box. She is extremely passionate about design, is super detailed, and customizes to the clients interests and preferences all while having high integrity in all she does.
