We are ready to redo our 2010 Tuscan kitchen adding additional cabinetry and new flooring but have been struggling with our first step which is what to do with our natural honey oak cabinets, some of which have changed color over time - different shades of orange. After weeks of reading online advice, looking at kitchen photos, numerous trips to paint stores and testing paint colors, we were at a stand still on what to do with the cabinets so the current and new cabinets blended seamlessly. My daughter found Jennifer online and the wonderful reviews had her calling Jennifer to see if Jennifer could help. That one call with Jennifer gave us confidence that she could help get us over this hurdle and on to next steps. Jennifer’s abundance of warm energy, knowledge, ideas and information were EXACTLY what we needed and I wish I had found her sooner! Jennifer’s knowledge of color, room flow, styles and design products is extensive allowing us to take advantage of more than just her color expertise. In addition, she provided insight into small details we had not noticed to make the most of our transition (such as the bright gold patio door knobs from 20 years ago - time to update those, too!!) Jennifer asked an abundance of questions to us individually to identify what we each liked, envisioned and most importantly, what we were struggling with (such as to paint or not paint the cabinets). She asked what we couldn’t change (only the granite counters). After discussion, we determined that in our environment, the old and new cabinets needed to be painted for a cohesive look. Jennifer evaluated all the areas that impacted the kitchen then did a deep dive into the colors of our granite and the surrounding areas. She advised color options including telling us the “why” so we were able to see how lighting, furnishings and other factors affect our colors. We were able to finally choose colors for the cabinets, walls, ceilings and woodwork for all the rooms creating a wonderful flow throughout the house. Next, we asked her opinion on flooring styles and colors and her guidance on flooring was extremely helpful! Finally we asked her thoughts on room layout and she helped us “shop the house” identifying new furnishing layouts and wall art we already owned and we literally moved furniture and hung art so by the time she left, our home already looked and felt better! Now, I’m off to the paint store and the contractor has his marching orders. I plan to have Jennifer return after renovations are done so she can help us place furniture and decor to really make the most of our home’s new look! JENNIFER IS A GEM and I highly recommend her!!!

We were crunched for time and she amazingly moved her plans around to accommodate a site visit on a Sunday so we could make our selections on time! This would have taken me weeks to do on my own and by no means would have been as curated. We used Jennifer for a color consultation, in which she helped us to select paint colors for the house that we were moving into and did a truly outstanding job. We are seriously so happy with the way our paint turned out, it transformed the house because of the colors she found. She listened to what we were hoping for and really considered the lighting and additional factors at play, which in our house included lots of already colorful Spanish tile. She also took the time to explain the decisions in a very helpful way, like why one room needed more color saturation than we had initially thought we would want and how it would be important to add other white elements to rooms if we really wanted to have ivory white walls. After the initial consult we were adding a large built in that was going to be painted and even though I only needed the color for the one item I knew it would be more than worth her consult fee to have her get the right color for the piece. She used the extra time on the consult to talk over other design details in then house and I so appreciate her expertise and professionalism. I worked with Jennifer twice because she is so great and would do so again without hesitating. I was halfway into my kitchen renovation and panicked over what color white to paint my cabinets. Having Jennifer Grey is like have a super hero in your corner. We struggle with colors and ideas and bringing Jennifer in to help us is and always will be the way we win the design and color battle. We called her six years ago to pick an interior color and this time to help with backyard colors. The bonus is, she walks through your project with you and you can bounce ideas or she gives you fabulous ones. She sees what we don't (super hero). Amazing! I was looking for someone to help us pick out colors for the exterior of our home. She was recommended by someone I know, so we contacted Jennifer, and within a matter of days, she came to our house. She took her time to get to know us and toured the inside and outside of our home. Jennifer helped us choose incredible colors for the outside of our house. It was a challenging design problem as the backyard pool had grey tones and the front of the house had brown tones. She was able to select a palette that worked all around. And she advised on what trim to paint what color, and what to leave the same as the body color of the house to “quiet things down”. She wrote up a detailed visual design spec that our painter was able to follow perfectly. She is truly an expert in color and also an artist at it. We are so happy with the results and the process.

Jennifer recently helped my family renovate our house after a water leak. As this was not a planned remodel, we found ourselves overwhelmed trying to pick out new flooring and decide on paint colors while also having to deal with insurance and plumbing repairs. I hired Jennifer based on her reviews and have to say I agree with all who think she goes above and beyond and is so easy to talk to. I needed assistance to prepare myself for a possible sale so was looking for input on kitchen counters/backsplash, painting kitchen cabinets and painting exterior. I am usually all over the place so I wanted someone who could come in and run with what I had existing, but also make it look classic in case we don't sell and I'd like to build on her changes. After looking at multiple counters with her I came back to her original recommendation. She's so spot on in deciding what will look best with both the cabinet stain I didn't like and my wish list color. Her choices for the exterior were out of my usual scope, but I love it! She took great care to make sure the color coordinated well with our roof and stone and she recommended excellent accent colors for our trim and front door. We have received many compliments on how fantastic the color is. The painter who painted our home now recommends the color to his other clients. •Sofa styling. Jennifer did an excellent job sourcing pillows and throws for both our family room and living room sofas and chairs. She made sure to get a sense for the style that we liked as well as what would work with the home architecture and style of our furniture. I absolutely love the pillows and throws she selected. She also made excellent recommendations for additional styling details for our coffee tables. •Entryway and living room décor. Jennifer is great! I utilized her services for a color consultation on old and dreadful color combination in my house with some tricky transitions. I have been excited about my remodel, but now I’m even more excited after my meeting with Jennifer to pick out paint colors. Jennifer is wonderful and is very happy and pleasant to work with. We really enjoyed our time together and listening to all her decorating ideas. We had never used a professional decorator before, but knew we planned to change the look of our home, and didn’t know if we would get it right. I had never used an interior designer before because I thought they were only for rich people, but I just moved into a big new house and I needed help!! I had a vision of what I wanted but wasn't quite sure about how to pull it all together. I had so many random questions, but had a good idea of what kind of style I liked. From the moment I spoke to Jennifer on the phone to set up our first meeting, she totally put me at ease. She was totally fine with coming out to answer my questions and give me advice. She was totally fine coming for just an hour, where other designers I spoke to were much snobbier and had 2/3 hour minimums. She also has great discounts with retailers that she's happy to pass on. When I bought some chairs at Design Within Reach, the guy there told me many times designers don't pass on their whole discount and they pocket a portion of your sale....she doesn't do that. Jennifer has helped me immensely -- both with great ideas to make my home look more put together and stylish, but she also told me many cool websites and other unique places to shop. If you are wary of getting help from an interior designer like I was, don't hesitate to call her! She will make you feel so comfortable and will make your home beautiful too!!!

Jennifer has been to my home twice in a three month period to consult on space planning, hanging mirrors, pictures, chandeliers you name it! She's also been extremely valuable with paint selection. We bought a new house and have painted the outside in and Jennifer has helped us every step of the way. I had other designers come in that were "paint experts," but Jennifer truly knows her paint. We did a complete remodel of our townhouse and Jennifer has been great. She certainly cares about tile and countertops more than me. She helped choose all the materials, colors and fixtures. I am a little late in posting this review about the wonderful experience and results we had with Jennifer. She has a very keen sense of color. Jennifer worked with us in selecting countertops for our master bath and kitchen as well as the back splash, shower tile, bathroom floor. Together we visited the granite yard and tile stores to select everything. Because I was with her, I was easily able to check out samples and take home to look at things in the best light. We also selected carpet this same way. She also came to the cabinet wholesaler to verify the cabinet selections. When it came time to select the paint she came to the house with all these samples (we checked them out again) to make sure everything would go together. The colors are absolutely perfect. Jennifer charges by the hour rather than for the entire job. Many designers charge for the job and then they make an additional commission from the various vendors for your purchases. Jennifer does not take any commission from the vendors so she can more easily work with your budget (she doesn't make money off of a more high end tile selection for instance). In fact, some of our vendors offered me a discounted price because I shopped with her. We love how our house turned out. We highly recommend her-by the way we found Jennifer by browsing Houzz.

Updating the interior of a 30 year old house was a daunting task for me. I turned to Houzz and fortunately found Jennifer! I've been working on my condo for 6 years. It's nearly finished and will soon need painting throughout. After buying several grey paint samples and applying them to areas on the wall, I liked none of it--nothing was working. I panicked. Then immediately searched Google looking for a painting consultant--I didn't even know if one existed. I selected someone based on what suggested to me that she was particularly skilled as a color consultant. I went to her link, then emailed her. She responded quickly, I knew she was an interior designer, which suggested to me she migh be high-priced, but she wasn't! I contracted her as a paint consultant only and I think for the first time I got more than complete value for my money. She arrived on time with large color samples. She interviewed me as to my desired style, offering some suggestions along the way. Jennifer is an intelligent, kind, nonjudgmental communicator who showed me what I hadn't considered regarding my color choice and why I wasn't pleased with it. She gave me plenty of her time as we worked through the process. She shared some of her designer knowledge which she really didn't have to do--was delightful and not stuffy. Jennifer is amazing. She guided me through my jumbles of ideas and "cute things" which were all mismatched and chaotic, and helped me create a cohesive and beautiful home. I can't thank her enough for setting me on a path of decorating in a way that surprised and totally delighted me. Now that the core pieces and paint colors in my house flow, it is a delight to play with adding and taking away things to switch up the room from spring to summer, fall and winter. Her advice and ideas were right on. She wrote me an extensive plan, including links to items that would work for my home. She was as excited about it all as i was, and her exuberance was so fun. I still have ideas she has given me that i plan to implement 2 years later!... I'm sure the small fee she charged SAVED me money in the long run, by creating a step by step plan that built upon itself. Once i implemented her plans, things just started coming together like a domino effect. It's hard to put into words how incredible she was to work with and what a difference it has made. I'm so proud of how pretty my home is now. It feels so good, and it was worth every single penny. She went way above and beyond what i would have ever expected for what she charged me, and I'm sure anyone who is lucky enough to retain her for a design consultation will be a very happy customer! I have been working with Jennifer from The Old Painted Cottage since 2011. I had been a faithful blog reader (http://theoldpaintedcottage.com/) and admirer of her style for a long time before getting the courage to contact her to see if she would agree to a design consultation to help me revamp my living room. My husband and I had recently moved into a 1960's ranch - that still looked like it was from the 1960s! I was so frustrated with trying to "design" my house on a budget and getting nowhere – I desperately wanted and needed help. I kind of knew what I wanted to do and the styles I admired, but I had no idea whatsoever how to create it on a realistic budget in my own home. I hired Jennifer to teach me how to beautify my living room. And oh boy - I cannot say enough about how absolutely wonderful it was (and has been since then) to work with Jennifer! After sending her the dimensions of my living area and images of living rooms I loved (many of them here on Houzz), we scheduled and had a phone consultation and OH.MY.GOSH! Jennifer's energy, excitement, ability to translate what I wanted to the redesign of my space - and all within my budget - was incredible! One of the most amazing things about Jennifer is that she patiently taught me many interior design secrets that I never knew but have since been able to apply to my whole home (e.g., hanging drapes higher than the top of the window, displaying décor items in threes, adding pops of complementary color, etc.) Needless to say, it is 2014 and Jennifer has let me hire her to design almost every room in my house! Since 2011, I’ve had two babies and she helped me design both nurseries. Jennifer also helped me revamp my master bedroom, TV room, and the sunroom! Currently, we are doing a whole house consult on a little lake cabin my husband and I recently purchased. Overall, Jennifer is a consummate professional, her fees are ridiculously reasonable, and she is able to “get into a space” and transform it simply by looking at before photos. Jennifer is a gem! I could go on and on about Jennifer…(and I hope to meet her in person one day soon!)
