John (Jack) deLashmet provides bespoke, site-specific landscape architectural and garden design to private residential clients, homeowners, architects, and fellow designers. While we have been based in the eastern end of Long Island for the past 10 years, our firm has been consistently recognized for its “uncommon ability to identify the spirit of each place and project, regardless of geographic location, client aesthetics, or architectural direction,” and we are fortunate to have developed an international clientele. Our focus varies from project to project, but we believe first in the acknowledgement of the immediate setting in which we will be working. Typically advocating for a strong underlying architecture beneath a more natural planting style that reflects the prevailing genius loci, we pride ourselves in both the knowledge of details necessary for authentic historic garden restoration and the use of leading-edge ecological technologies and vision necessary for the creation of “the modern garden.” Quite often, we are asked to collaborate with other garden designers and landscape architects, a rare niche that is becoming more and more a part of our direction as a firm. From site-development or the location of a new residence, to large-scale re-vegetation projects focusing on indigenous plantings and restoration of native habitats, we strive to create unique, usable spaces that honor the land and emphasize a strong sense of place.
