We cancelled a large project. Patricia’s quotation comparable to others was significantly high!!!! She charged us for things such as kitchen plans and designs which are done for FREE at any reputable kitchen place. She makes the plans without investigating that any changes in structure, demolition or reconfiguration are physically possible. We spent unnecessary monies with her on kitchen designs which was very upsetting as her plans were unworkable and inadequate details, based on her lack of knowledge of what was behind walls, the design was completely redone with our budget consideration and if any needed construction. As well, she was to paint a main wall in our home and were told it had to be done a specific way due to the original finish, not so, we had other options and it was done and amazing, at a fraction of the cost. We were to finish and paint to kids bedrooms and the cost was so high. If you have an open wallet and do not care how much something is going to cost then this maybe the choice for you, but my suggestion, do your research and homework before you make a selection, there are many options and amazing people that can complete your project at the same level. This has been weighing on me and is quite disturbing as she never responded to us based on us paying her without ever returning our original plans and acknowledging the payment for something that we could never use. I wish her good luck.

We hired Patricia to do a condo renovation. The work was extensive, involving tearing down walls, installing a completely new kitchen and bathrooms and redesigning two studies. Besides having an excellent design eye, Patricia is a world class hand holder, taking us around to various trades to help choose appliances, tiles, counter tops, cupboard installations for kitchen and studies, handles etc. etc. with meticulous attention to detail. She is also extremely pleasant to work with. We are very pleased with the final result.

We worked with In Residence several years ago on a major project in our Victorian walkup in Montreal. The work lasted over a year and the results are gorgeous. Our ideas were well listened to and realised with great professional attention. I am extremely picky about details and my expectations were met with patience, care and humour! I have had the pleasure of working with Patricia and Kassandra on several jobs. Not only are they a delight to work with, but are knowledgeable, professional, and aware of the latest trends without being "trendy". We hired In Residence Design (IRD) to do extensive renovations of an old victorian greystone that we bought. IRD prepared estimates based on designs that we approved. They asked for our budget and suggested solutions that would fit the budget. These renovations were extensive. They brought in architects and engineers when required. The renovations included excavating the basement to go from 6.5 foot clearance to 8 foot finished ceilings. Electrical and all lighting were all redone. The heating was replaced with central air with heatpump on the roof. Floors were mostly replaced and floors levelled. Most windows were replaced. Kitchen and master bathroom were gutted and redone. Slate roof was replaced. Flat roof as well. Landscaping, backyard deck, garage floor, were all redone. Greystone which had been painted white was restored to natural grey. What we appreciated most was that IRD treated the project and budget as if they owned it. They managed the trades and spotted errors and called them back to fix issues on their nickel. IRD was tenacious in getting things done right and making sure charges were correct. They spotted errors (rates too high) on some invoices and had them reissued. We tracked all costs versus the budget on spreadsheets. IRD also had their own spreadsheets to track the project and identified differences between our tracking and theirs. In one case I had missed a payment that I had made and told them what I thought I owed them They corrected me and identified the payment that I had made. They could have stayed silent and I would have over paid thousands of dollars. They didn't. If you use their service then you need to be engaged and available to make decisions, to review the financials on a regular basis, and you need to let them do their job. Let them manage the job from start to finish. If you try to cherry pick where you use them then you will end up not seeing mistakes made by those trades you over view and what you thought you saved in their fees, you will pay in spades in over spending or botched job. We realized that the leverage that IRD has is that the use these trades all the time, while I will use them once or twice in my life. If they screw up with IRD then they risk missing out on all their future projects. IRD was very transparent in the costs. We benefited of their discounts in material and furniture stores. Honesty and passion for quality and their expertise are their best qualities. I would obviously recommend them and use them again if I needed to do a job, small or big.

I was referred to In Residence by a close friend who hired Patricia for a large scale renovation. While our project was a much smaller one in comparison, we were very well taken care of as clients and were very pleased with the end result.
