We cover all aspects of architectural services, on all types of projects. We specialise in Listed Building and conservation projects. Ian qualified as a Chartered Architect in 1984, and in 2012 received his MSc in Building Conservation at Anglia Ruskin University. Ian worked at a medium-sized practice before setting up his practice in 1991. It became a limited company in October 2010. Whatever the size or nature of the project, we are committed to good quality design and attention to detail, coupled with a common-sense approach to solving the problems and challenges that naturally arise during the design and construction process. We provide a flexible approach, carefully tailoring and agreeing the type and extent of professional services to the individual client’s needs. The practice works with private and commercial clients, often with listed buildings and properties within conservation areas. We have good working relationships with many of the local Planning and Conservation officers, including Uttlesford, South Cambridgeshire and East Herts District Councils. Our client list includes private developers, the Salvation Army, and schools. We have also carried out minor works to hospitals. The services provided include: Preparation of a design brief, feasibility studies, planning and Listed Building applications, construction. drawings and specifications, tender invitations and contract documentation, contract administration and on-site inspections, models and perspective illustrations, building surveys, advice on building defects and landscape and external works. Both modern and traditional methods are used to create plans in the practice. Hand-drawn plans are usually submitted for Listed Building applications as their appearance is more suited to those generated by computer aided design (CAD). But modern technology comes into its own for producing plans for Building Regulations approval. CAD drawings are flexible and faster to produce for on-site working drawings. Ian has built up contacts with many associated specialist professions including: structural engineers, land and building surveyors, quantity surveyors, planning consultants, historic building advisors and archaeological and ecological consultants. For some projects, any or several of these professionals may join the design team.
