We simply could not have realized our upstate home dreams without Kim. She is so kind and considerate, so knowledgeable and easy to work with... Whereas most high-end architects charge an exorbitant fee as a % of whatever they design, Kim works off a cost per hour basis, which was significantly less expensive than her peers... for what I would consider superior results. We wanted a custom, modernist home that still felt cozy AND fit our specific, forested lot... and she delivered our dream in spades. She took our vision and turned it into a reality, AND introduced us to our contractor who is also the absolute best in the business. I just cannot recommend Kim highly enough. If and when we ever do anything else in that area of the world, she's our first (and only) call.

We are so fortunate that Kim Hoover planned our renovation. She expertly captured our priorities and was creative about modifications to our plans that would reduce costs. She clearly explained the permitting process and referred us to excellent contractors. Thanks to Kim we love our home and the process was much less stressful than we imagined!

Our collaboration with Hoover Architecture started nearly 14 years ago. We interviewed about a dozen architects, and it was clear Kim Hoover stood out from the rest -- she understood what we wanted and didn't allow us to make bad choices. Kim isn't an architect who will nod and smile, and then design an unworkable house: she listens, advises, listens again, explains and then uses her extraordinary knowledge of current and historic design trends to create beautiful homes and building. The best part about working with Kim, aside from her creativity and talent, is her really superior communication skills. We were never left hanging and she often pro-actively reached to us to make sure the project was proceeding even after her designs were stamped and finished. We've built two homes with Hoover Architecture -- one is super contemporary and the other more traditional. Both are on the Hudson and each maximizes the views up and down the river. In selling the first house she designed for us, her name became part of the realtor's marketing strategy and help assure us four offers in one weekend, all above the asking price. Kim has an extensive list of local honest and reliable contractors, electricians, engineers, plumbers, etc, and during the pandemic, this proved to be a life-saver for the project. We leaned on her often to help select siding material, roof shingle colors, garage door designs, windows, baseboard width etc. Were it not for Kim's sound counsel, we would still be debating what color to paint the house. Here's an example of how she goes the extra mile: Kim pointed out, as we cleared the land, that the trees we were taking down could be used as flooring and pointed us to local millers. Today, we live in a home that honors the land on which it is built. Every piece of visible wood was milled from the property and thanks to her, it is literally breath-taking. By the same token, Kim is not reluctant to explain to the new homebuilder why an idea might not work -- and is always happy to suggest alternatives. I cannot count the number of times she saved us from ourselves. Most of all, she is tireless, dedicated, patient and incredibly cheerful. To be honest, I can't imagine hiring anyone but Kim Hoover to design a house in the Hudson Valley. There are some great architects around here, but none compare to the entire package of services you get from Hoover Architecture.

The most important decision we made when building our house was choosing Kim Hoover as the architect. It was the first house we had built and we were totally naive to how many bumps there would be along the road. We found out about Hoover Architecture via Houzz where Kim had stellar reviews across the board, and she was located somewhat in the area of upstate New York where we hoped to build our home in the woods near a lake. We had travelled a couple times around Iceland and my Italian wife had lived for a time in Sweden; we loved the simplicity of the Scandinavian houses and hope to incorporate aspects of that design into a house that would fit into the lake community where we planned to build. Although none of the houses in Kim's portfolio were exactly the style what we wanted for our house, it was clear she could work in a wide variety of styles and everything she designed looked great, including one we particularly liked that had many European features. When we met with Kim to discuss the house, we had a general idea of what we wanted for floor plan and the exterior (which Kim grasped immediately). Kim took our main ideas and turned them into a house that was far better than we had imagined. Every one of our favorite parts of the house was an idea that Kim suggested based on a vague concept from us. For example, we were interested in having some type of outdoor space that felt like an extension of the inside. All of our ideas did not really mesh well with the lot or the simplicity of design we were seeking. Kim had a great idea to put a huge glass door on the side of the living room that exited to the deck and to extend the roof of the house to cover half of the deck. The result is that the sun enters the house in the winter but not the summer (so the house warms in the winter but doesn't overheat in the summer) and the deck feels like an extension of our living room -- making our somewhat shallow depth but wide living room/kitchen feel spacious and continuous with the outdoor space. It's by far the best part of the house and it's all a credit to Kim's creativity, as are many other features of the house. Kim not only made sure the house looked great, but also knew the land, geography, orientation and put it all together in a way that is balanced (now if only we can get our landscaping ramped up to complement it all!). Overall Kim was good at everything. We did not live close to Kim's office, but she was willing to work remotely via video conferencing (before the pandemic when such things were far less common). She was always responsive. She was always the person with the best idea. And she was always enthusiastic and extremely helpful. If we every build anything again, we seek out Kim Hoover as the architect.

Kim of Hoover Architecture is an amazing architect! She "got" our aesthetic seamlessly and made our dream home a reality (even though it was a renovation!) It has been incredible watching her design come to life. Throughout the process, she was patient with our permutations and always took the time to answer questions and give advice. I met with at least 5 design professionals before choosing Kim Hoover and she was the clear choice as she was the only one who actually listened to what I was looking to accomplish, worked with my ideas and concepts (many of which were not traditional ones), added her input and creativity and manged to get everything done in a timely manner. My husband and I hired Kim after interviewing several local architects in the Hudson Valley (Ulster Co.). It was important to us to use a local architect, who could help us to incorporate all of the natural elements we love about the area we live in, that had creative vision and an excellent reputation. Kim surpassed our expectation! She listened to what was important to us in a home; a simple design that was new but had an old feel, an open plan that brought the outdoors that we love so much in and that the house fit in with the barn, horses and gardens. She designed a beautiful, amazingly functional home that incorporated all of who we are as a family so much so that when we moved in we never felt that new house unfamiliarity; it felt like home from the moment we walked in. Additionally, Kim was always on time with her plans, very professional and open and she was there with us for the entire building process when things came up where we needed her.

Kim was great to work work. I needed to remodel a 1970's kitchen and deck. She listened to what I wanted and incorporated those idea into the new design. When I got stuck on possible options, she was able to provide a reasonable number of good options to choose from. This enabled me to get the project successfully completed without having to become knowledgeable on all the options. I would recommend Hoover Architecture for any remodeling jobs (big or small).

I went to Hoover Architecture when looking to build a new house. She was well known in the Town and once you meet her you will know why. Building a house is a very stressful venture and having an architect like Mrs. Hoover to keep you calm and make your ideas a reality is priceless. She never said she could not do something. At one point we went to her during construction and advised her of a barrel vault ceiling we saw on an HGTV show. Within a day she redesigned our great room with a ceiling that was the envy of all our friends.
