Background: Growing up in San Marino, California, a few blocks from the famous Huntington gardens, it's not too surprising that Gabriela Yariv's first word was "flowie." Her early love of plants, combined with the fertile imagination of a born artist and the horticultural and design training provided by a first-rate school of landscape architecture, has resulted in over 20 years of successful experience as a professional landscape designer. The renowned estate gardens of Pasadena and San Marino that shaped her sensibility have given her a lifelong passion for preserving and enhancing Pasadena’s proud heritage of gardens. Philosophy: Genius loci (spirit of place) is the guiding principal of Gabriela Yariv Landscape Design. Gabriela understands that a perfect garden must take its cues from both the architecture and the unique characteristics of the site. In Southern California, where gardens are used year round, they must not only be beautiful and environmentally sensitive, but also serve as functional outdoor living spaces. Gabriela's gardens become natural extensions of the home as she sculpts the landscaped space around each site’s unique characteristics and each client's individual needs. Gabriela is proud to have sustained long-lasting client relationships over the years. And she is honored to have been asked to create gardens for homes by some of Los Angeles’s top turn-of-the-century architects, such as Wallace Neff, Sylvanus Marston, Greene&Greene, Roland Coate, and Joseph Kucera. Education/Professional Experience: Gabriela studied landscape architecture at Cornell University. Before launching her own design practice, Gabriela worked for Walt Disney Imagineering and Mia Lehrer and Associates.

Gabriela did an amazing job from the planning stages through execution. We were and continue to be thrilled with the end result. Every time someone walks into our yard they are blown away by the beauty of the space. This was not an inexpensive undertaking, however, we use the space extensively and are constantly pinching ourselves saying - “we live here!” If I move anytime soon I’d hire Gabriela again.

Gavi's superb professional reputation is 100% deserved. She has everything you would want in a landscape designer -- impeccable taste and judgment, creativity, total dedication, responsiveness, and good cheer. She listens well, and her designs are always architecturally sensitive and practical. Although her work is incredibly sophisticated, she also works hard to accommodate different projects and budgets. We think she's the gold standard for landscape design.

Gavi is an extremely talented landscape designer who is worth her weight in gold! She created a stunning backyard for us in the Pacific Palisades (Riviera). Several years ago we bought a beautiful house once owned by a famous movie director and hired Gavi to completely redesign the backyard (from the outdated yard that was overgrown and designed in the 1940s) - which included moving the pool, creating beautiful seating areas, a grassy area for my son and husband to play soccer, retaining walls, an outdoor shower, and gardens/plants/trees. My husband grew up in the tropics and I grew up in the Northeast, so we wanted a combination of tropical and traditional plants in our gardens and landscaping - not an easy task. Gavi worked with both of us to design a truly gorgeous backyard - she has a fantastic eye. She also oversaw the contractors who did all the construction and planting to make sure they did everything right. Since then we spent several years enjoying her creation! We have gotten countless compliments from friends - many who've said that our backyard reminds them of a hotel or spa! We have since moved to Northern California and just wish she would be willing to work up here to redesign the backyard in our new home... It is so difficult to think about working with anyone else going forward. Anyone based in Southern California would be insane to think about working with anyone else!

We have done two projects with Gavi. After the first, I knew I would never be satisfied with anyone else. Gavi creates scared spaces. She has a refined eye, from fabrics to flowers, you will see her genius shine through. The best part...Gavi will lose sleep so you don't have too! She will labor over the details, the plants, the hardscape, etc. as if it were her very own. Then with the passion of a true artist, she'll actualize and exceed your expectations, leaving you with a garden that truly inspires. Your very own, rare and wonderful utopia!

Gavi worked closely with us to develop a design that is in keeping with the architecture of our home, the neighborhood and existing landscaped features while also staying within our budget. My wife and I hired Gabriela (Gavi) to transform our newly purchased Spanish style home in Pasadena after admiring her local work for many years. We were impressed by her enthusiasm about creating a garden that was in keeping with the historic grandeur of this Colonial Revival masterpiece. She spent hours with us pouring over her extensive collection of garden and architecture books, brought us to the Huntington Gardens to view many of her proposed plants in person, and ultimately created a stunning garden that was featured in the Los Angeles Times, Los Angles Times Magazine, Martha Stewart Living and a coffee table Rizzoli publication. Her absolute dedication and passion are evident, and we hired her for the our next home, a mid century modern home a few years later, where she brought an equal level of attention to historic detail and architectural research to the project.

Gavi is a gifted landscape designer and as a friend and landscape architect I highly recommend her. Gavi's talent combines an extensive knowledge of plants that do well in Southern California with a keen artistic eye. Her planting designs show both a creative use of plants, attention to detail, and an ability to harmonize the overall design with existing site conditions and architectural context. As a bonus it is a pleasure to work with her.

Gavi did landscaping for a couple of our friends and we loved both yards--not knowing that it was Gavi that did BOTH of their yards! We hired Gavi to design and landscape our front yard and courtyard shortly after that. Gavi was easy to work with and we trusted her instincts for plant selections. We ended up winning a beautiful yard award from our city because of the beautiful job Gavi did for us! Love her work!
