We had a large master bath that was poorly laid out, with lots of wasted space. The master bath served both the master bedroom and an adjoining child’s bedroom. We needed someone with a lot of creativity to come up with a way to make two bathrooms out of the space of the one. Thomas, with his engineering background, came through with a design that is now highly functional for both spaces. The master bath now has a luxury spa feel with a wet room, Japanese soaking tub, heated towel rack, his and hers walk-in closets and plenty of storage space. The new master layout even accommodated the addition of a sauna! We could not be happier with the way it all turned out. The key to the whole project was a great design! Thanks Thomas!

Thomas was extremely professional from start to finish, as he navigated us through our master bathroom remodeling project. We had to make several adjustments along the way, and he was always helpful in guiding us through our choices. His recommended general contractor, and the subs that he used to complete our project, were professional and courteous, and worked with us so that we could still live and work in our space as the bathroom was being worked on. Thomas was onsite frequently, helping to ensure that the contractors were meeting his expectations for a finished product for us, and stayed in touch with us from design to finished product, to make sure we were happy with the finished project (and we LOVE it). I had a great experience working with Thomas to renovate our master bathroom and other projects throughout the house. He is a designer with taste, a communicator with patience, and a contractor with reliability. As a designer, he is able to incorporate the current trend, clients' needs, and his own aesthetics in the design. As a previous engineer, his design matches almost perfectly with the final look. Even the tiles on the wall are exactly the same layout. He is also not afraid to veto bad ideas, when other contractors may just say yes to everything you want to get the job opportunity. As a communicator, he explained and walked me through the design, pricing, process, and schedule patiently. As a foreigner whose mother tongue is not English, I greatly appreciate his patience and simple ways to explain a complex project. Also, Thomas is very responsive through text, email and OneNote. As a contractor, Thomas helped me with a minor fix on the bathroom wall a year after my project was done, free of charge. I'm glad that I worked with Thomas who is reliable and stands behind his work. Last but not least, for all of us who care about budget, Thomas is not cheap but it worths the price tag. Thomas also helped us save big on AC unit, countertop slab, and a few other things. If you want a tasteful renovation that can last, he is the guy to help!

Wow, what an experience this has been! Let me start from the beginning of my process and how I came to the decision to hire HwRenewal and the final results of my project (if you want the short version, skip to the end). I started speaking with contractors in early 2018 to renovate our 1980's kitchen, master bathroom and master closet. I deal a little in construction in my profession (on an industrial scale) and know just enough to realize I didn't want to do this project without a general contractor. I was very far down the road with another contractor who had taken months and months to get me pricing; I'd met with them and their subcontractors every other week it seemed like, and each time it became more and more frustrating. I would describe my ideas and would get blank stares and head rubs in return. After about 6 months of this very frustrating process, I received a bid that didn't even include materials! Again, I know just enough that I knew I didn't want to be in charge of ordering tile, grout, tile adhesive, trims, windows, doorknobs, plumbing fixtures, the list goes on and on... So, I started looking for contractors again and came across HwRenewal on Houzz. This changed everything for my project and the entire experience for me. From the moment I started the questionnaire that was full of personality (I mean, seriously, who creates a questionnaire with personality?!) I knew this was the contractor for my project. After meeting with Thomas, it was even more obvious this is what I needed. When we walked through the space and he said, "I see a wet room here" I was hooked. I had tried to explain this concept to the previous contractor and that was one of the many blank stares I received in return. You should know that Thomas isn't just a general contractor, he is also an incredible designer; there is a huge difference between the two. One just builds what you tell them, the other designs the space to its full potential creating options you never even considered and making it a functional, captivating, beautiful space. This is so important to keep in mind when you're looking at the pricing of a job. Hiring Thomas is the same as hiring an interior designer to create the design, and then hiring a general contractor to build it, but since he's one-in-the-same the details aren't lost in translation. Thomas is the all-encompassing design build team. He is precise, organized, uses technology in smart ways, communicates every step of the way, has an intense attention to detail, great design sense, and a very funny sense of humor that makes the process more fun. Thomas stayed up many late nights (I know because I was emailing and working with him on One Note) looking for all the little details I wanted in the space. I'm pretty sure the lighting discussion had him pulling out his hair, but he was always patient and professional. I also had a very specific look I was going for with the wall tiles; I wanted large format, marble look, with as little grout as possible. I absolutely hate scrubbing shower grout. Thomas went above and beyond finding an option in my price range to the point of becoming a supplier of the Italian porcelain, buying specialized tools, specialized materials to install it, and hiring a person specially trained in cutting it to come for a day to help. It was quite an undertaking to say the least. It was worth it, though, the result is breathtaking! There are always things you don't plan on along the way on renovation projects, or any construction project for that matter, but Thomas communicated the solutions and options and we worked through them together. I'll wait and have Thomas put pictures up because I can't do his work justice with my cell phone camera. It turned out to be a work of art! The scope of this project, in the end, was: a complete demolition of the existing master bathroom and master closet; expanding and recreating the master bathroom and master closet; customizing and installing a closet system; updating a stairway; replacing the outdated front door; and adding gas lanterns on the front porch beside the new front door. I will have Thomas and his team back for the kitchen renovation and look forward to working with them all again! It's strange coming home now and not seeing Thomas and Gerardo (Gerardo was the on-site constant, amazing, contractor who really takes immense pride in his work) they feel like family now! If you skipped to the end for the short version, here it is: you get what you pay for, especially on an investment like this, and Thomas did an amazing job and was worth every penny!

We certainly made the right choice when we chose HwRenewal . . . to build a screened patio for our 1960 mid-century home. Thomas quickly grasped our vision and, during his daily visits to the job, he always had suggestions for time- and money-saving changes. The patio enclosure was constructed using PVC and included 8 beautiful columns, 2 aluminum-framed glass doors with dead-bolt locking handles, with a custom prairie-cross design at the bottom. There are 14 replaceable screen units, using Tuff-Screen inserts for durability and the safety and security of our 3 dogs and 5 cats! In addition to enclosing our patio, our job included replacing 3 old crank-style windows and trim with new egress windows for safety in case of fire; 2 new carport roof supports; a new oversized metal chimney cap that was custom-made; new ceramic cook-top; as well as other safety and cosmetic repairs. From the very start, Thomas promised us a professional and skillful crew and he delivered when he sent us Fernando, Isaiah, Gerardo, Rey, David, Juan and Carlos. They were master craftsmen - courteous, responsible, friendly, respectful of our property, and they soon became like family to us. The end result was well beyond our expectations and we would give them 6 stars, if that were possible. All that remains is to say, “Thank you, Thomas and Crew!”

I hired Homeworks Renewal to do an assessment of my rental home. The previous resident had destroyed it. I needed a professional to write a report of damages so that I could show my insurance company and possibly charge the resident. Are you in need of a project idea with clear insight and intense attention to EVERY detail? If so, then Thomas Hayes is your man. Thomas had very clear and concise communication from the beginning with the online questionnaire to the consultation/ information session. He takes his time and doesn't rush you as you explain your vision to him even if it is not "ideal". He wants to listen. He wants to use your ideas to flow into a Designed Built Masterpiece that you are not only part of but proud of. Thomas does not shoot down you or other professionals to down grade their workmanship or ideas even those that may be less than par, but positively uplifts them as professionals. He offers constructive feedback but with a hint of encouragement and empowerment. Due to the nature of our present financial situation, we did not go with Thomas because we really needed to do a very small scale job with our limited budget. Even with that, Thomas was willing to work with our budget and make it doable, but never once did he pressure or use sale tactics to persuade us to step outside of our comfort zone. That is why I am writing this review with assurance that when we decide to get the job done to the "Biltmore Estate" standard we know who we will be calling. I have used Homeworks for two projects in my home. I selected this company because Tom Hayes exercised a lot of care in scoping the job. He spent time discussing ideas of how to redesign a foyer and to put in box lighting in my living room. As part of this work, I wanted Tom to do some repair work for some water damage. In the course of pulling up the floor additional damage was discovered. Tom warned me about this possibility during the estimate process. Tom was very reasonable on the change order. The work on the foyer was more involved and Tom made it right at the cost we agreed on. I feel that Tom is a partner in my home improvement projects. We bounce ideas off each other and the results turn out better than I thought possible. I plan to continue to use Homeworks for my future projects.

After doing a lot of research on the internet we decided to go with Homeworks Renewal to remodel our two upstair 24 year old bathrooms in desperate need of a complete overhaul. Thomas came over and asked all the right questions to find out what we were looking for. With our budget in mind Thomas came up with a few alternatives that we would never of thought of on our own. Of course, once started some water damage issues with one of the showers was discovered since apparently the original builder had not heard of water proofing. Thomas and his crew resolved this issue without missing a beat in terms of the schedule. I cannot emphasize enough how important it is to have a project manager to be the one to resolve all the issues that are inevitable when getting painters, plumbers, carpenters, demolition, electricians and final cleanup crew working together smoothly. As others have said, Thomas exceeded our expectations and we are totally satisfied with the completed project.

Thomas and the team did an outstanding job on a project which presented unique design challenges. Our house has a specific esthetic -- an unusual combination of Asian and modern which also accommodates antiques -- and Thomas blended those themes into a brand new master bath suite which also became suitable for aging in place, all the while looking like a soothing spa. The HW teams are top notch, and Thomas is a stickler for detail and finish work -- he was on site and personally supervising at every critical juncture. We would recommend them unhesitatingly to anyone looking for a first-rate firm, and Thomas would be our first call for any future projects.

Thomas was able to transform this "eyesore" of an entrance into a safe and attractive space entering this home. Homeworks Renewal also built the bench seating and replaced the table top you see in the pictures below, creating a lot of seating for this comfy, cozy dinning space. Having never hired a contractor in the area, I decided to research contractors on Houzz. It was a relatively small project that not many contractors wanted to bid. I was extremely worried about the safety of getting in and out of this house as it seemed like a big hazard, the big drop right outside the front door, uneven steps and no railing. This had to be repaired before someone got hurt. I was pleased to find Thomas and Homeworks Renewal. We hired Thomas and his crew to replace the 80s-era bathtub and shower fixtures in the upstairs bathroom. They had to go in through the opposite wall to reach the plumbing, so there was drywall and paint work involved as well. The whole crew was punctual, highly professional and did outstanding work. They communicated with us at every step to make sure they were giving us what we wanted and that we were happy with the work. The quality of the work and cleanup was first-rate and the pricing was more than fair. I'll be using them for all my home repair and minor renovations and would recommend them to anyone.

I am a real estate agent who needed an estimate on a certain type of repair/replacement contracting job while negotiating a contract on the sale of one of my listings. I had gone online to find a contractor that did these type of repairs and who might be able to give me a ballpark estimate. As I was in the midst of negotiating the contract, I needed the information that day (which happened to be the day before the Fourth of July when most people were not working). On Homeworks website you can input your information, the type of repair, what you need and then they will be back in touch with you. I have to admit I was not optimistic about getting a response that day because of the holiday. I received a confirmation email right away. Within 30 minutes at the most I received an email from Thomas Hayes with Homeworks asking me when would be a good time for us to arrange a 15 to 30 minute phone call to assess the project. I explained in my email reply what I needed and he requested pictures of the project area which I sent him. Within a few hours I had back from him an estimate of what the cost would be including everything. It was exactly what I needed to give to my client so we could complete the negotiations. Without Thomas's professional and expert help I would have been guessing at the cost which is never satisfactory. I feel confident based on how Thomas responded so promptly that he would also do that in the performance of a job. I will certainly put Thomas Hayes and his company Homeworks in my contact file to use and recommend.

I first worked with Homeworks in 2012 to address some major repairs related to water issues. I was so pleased with the results, that shortly thereafter I retained Homeworks to renovate my kitchen. The experience of working with them to design a kitchen that was infinitely more functional, and specially designed to meet my individual preferences was very exciting. To this day, visitors comment on the kitchen and its unique design elements. Since then, Homeworks has updated the exterior of my large home, designed a new laundry room, and totally rehabbed my basement. Our most recent project has just been completed, and as is the standard for all of the work Homeworks has done for me, it concluded with a walk through with a site superintendent or a project manager, and a promptly cleared punch list. It is so good to be able to get results that are designed well and contain both quality and thoroughness from start to finish.

Homeworks removed the wall (load bearing) between our den and living room. They were courteous, responsive, clean, quick to answer my many questions, and participated in the creative process. I'm a tough client. I know, because I have clients myself. I'm not easy to please and I expect everything to be up to a certain standard. I also value a good deal. Homeworks aren't the cheapest guys in town, but it's a calculated call you make in hiring them. What we got in return for our investment was above and beyond expectation, quickly done, and executed with a skilled and highly professional team. Our basement landing project was complete, soup to nuts, in 3 weeks: dirt floor dug out and concreted, framing, drywall, insulation, painting, finishing touches - the works. Thomas kept a close eye on the project as we moved forward, informing us along the way of any necessary changes (the expenses of which were minimal at best--a small plumbing issue was amended, and that was the extent of it). Homeworks also bonused us a host of elements, including fixing an empty window space and adjusting a dryer vent area, just to ensure we were 100% happy with the project. What was once a simple dirt floor area, filled with a variety of electrical and support beam challenges, is now a beautiful area that exceeded our expectations in size (another thing they included as added value) and quality. And the team are truly goods guy who bust their booties to do right by clients: even challenging ones like me. I recommend Homeworks for projects you need done right. My husband and I are thrilled with our results.

I would recommend Homeworks to all those in search of a firm for home renovation. We hired them for 2 home projects. One small project related to our screened porch and a mud room locker. Both projects were completed in a timely manner and with a high level of quality. Most importantly whenever we had concerns or work was not quite as we had envisioned Thomas worked with us to resolve the issue. This is one of the most important aspects of hiring a firm and we are extremely pleased how Homeworks bent over backwards to accommodate us. Communication was good and Thomas presented us with additional ideas and design suggestions throughout our projects. Hats off to Thomas and the crew. I am thrilled with my porch!! I had a very small deck that was my entrance to the house. it was so small that you had to back up to open the door and had no roof so I rarely used it. at the initial meeting Thomas asked what I wanted and I told himI did not know what I wanted but I wanted it bigger and a roof. I had no vision but thank goodness he did . the design detail is so unique and looks like it has always been there. the workmanship was wonderful. I am seeing a new attention to detail every time I look at it . they made sure every detail was right and was not going to rush to get it finished just to get the job done . The crew took care on all aspects of the job and actually cleaned up the area every day before they left which was really appreciated. Every day it was 90 degrees and over but they worked with no issues to the weather conditions. I would and will hire them for my next project . Anyone who hires them will be happy with their work.

Thomas and the Homeworks crew are amazing! This is the third large project they have done for us on an older bungalow near Decatur. Two were necessary because of health concerns: sealing the crawlspace and cleaning and replacing duct work and air cleaning system. The air quality is 100 times better and the house is dry and comfortable for the first time ever--and I have owned the house over 30 years. But the great thing about Homeworks is that they do not stop until the job is done perfectly. And they even came back on their own to check to be sure all was working properly. Prior to putting my Atlanta home on the market in 2013 I decided to upgrade my modest size (100 sq. ft.), 1980’s vintage master bath/bedroom to enhance its value and appeal. After screening several local home remodelers I selected Homeworks based on their significant number of positive reviews. Work began in Aug. 2013. Within 2 months Homeworks installed new, high quality components including a vanity/mirror, jetted tub, picture window, shower area, vent fans and lighting with beautiful porcelain tile throughout. As a bonus, thanks to Homeworks attention to detail and design expertise, they were also able to add a very useful linen closet to the space. Concurrently, Homeworks updated the master bedroom with crown molding, new carpet and paint. The end product was a beautiful master suite which became a consistent source of compliments from prospective buyers and contributed to the quick sale of the home. Based on this experience I would strongly recommend Homeworks to anyone considering a similar project.

Almost a year later I can honestly say that I'm excited every time I walk in my "new" master bath. Given my attempt to stay strictly on budget, other than a quick redo of the paint color, I am pleasantly surprised to say that I also wouldn't change a thing about it. It was a challenging footprint that I had planned on refreshing/redoing for 4 years and it came out just like I planned it except way better on the tub, shower, vanity, and mirror. And tile - I really love my tile and it looks so much richer than the price tag! And Thomas fixed my awkward and poorly designed ceiling - which he was adamant about correcting and I'm glad I gave in...because it is so much better and he was totally right on that one. Thomas and my crew of Shane and Richard were a pleasure to deal with and I very much trust their judgement. I did have a problem with one of the subs and the design part of the process was protracted a bit, but once we signed the deal, the crew got started and the project was completed on time and within budget. All change orders were approved and resulted in a better final product. I wouldn't hesitate to use Homeworks again. It's a comfort to know I can leave them with a key and know that they'll take care of everything. Communication was excellent.
