Fleming James Architects is an architectural practice based in Birmingham established by Ian James and Andrew Fleming. Together Ian and Andrew have over fifteen years experience spanning a range of projects of varying scale and budget. They share a passion for architecture and design that forms the backbone for delivering projects of a high quality. Having started their architectural education at the Birmingham School of Architecture, Ian proceeded to complete his studies at the Edinburgh School of Architecture and Andrew at The University of Nottingham. Prior to forming Fleming James Architects Ian and Andrew worked together for a number of years at a large national architectural practice and forged an effective working relationship that is the basis of their partnership. Really happy with the design of the extension, the support through planning, timely service provided and price. The rear extension to the kitchen and living room, created enough space to create a further partition downstairs for a new bedroom for my son with mobility problems and a wet room. Has transformed our house and enabled my son to live at home safely without having to climb up and down the stairs. We highly recommend this company.

We used these architects to design a house renovation in late 2019. Originally our ideas incorporated a loft conversion but having played around with design, Ian explained that whilst this was possible it may not give us the change we wanted due to building regs etc. Ian then came up with some designs which we went with. He moved some rooms around in a way that has worked really well but we hadn’t thought of. Planning was also submitted on our behalf. Ian was friendly and professional throughout. He explained his pricing structure and the various options. This was our first experience of using an architect and they were well worth the money for both the design and taking the hassle out of the planning stage. Highly recommend.

Andy and Ian are great. They really took account of our needs but still threw lots of interesting ideas into the pot. We are delighted with the end result which is a modern statement but embraces the old house really well. Their fees are more reasonable than most and we feel that they offered good value They also have the most phenomenal attention to detail.

I can’t thank Ian and Andrew enough for the work they did in designing our kitchen and utility extension and in helping to get it completed despite difficulties we had with builders. They were kind and professional throughout and we could not be happier with the space they created for us. It’s taken me ages to get round to writing this, so I can say that we have lived with the work they did for almost four years and there is literally nothing I would change about it. They transformed our dark, cold, cramped kitchen into a beautiful, light space that works perfectly for the whole family. Thank you!

Fleming James were very professional and came up with a beautiful design based on our discussions and brief. They were fastidious and kept an eye on the building project to ensure it was following the detail of the design. My only criticisms are firstly, the cost of the design was significantly higher than our budget, which meant having to scale it back once we had received builders’ quotes; and secondly they were a little inflexible when changes were needed. However, if you’re looking for dedicated professionals and a high end design, I would have no hesitation in recommending Fleming James.

We could not be more pleased with the service provided by Ian and Andrew at Fleming James Architects. They designed a stunning modern kitchen and utility extension for us that is just a joy to now be living in. The entire process from initial scoping, through various design iterations and to build was great fun. Ian and Andrew were incredibly patient with our changing ideas and wants and delivered a stunning final design.

We were very impressed with both of the architects who were most professional. They provided us with very detailed plans and were always keen to advise us how to best achieve the end result we were looking for. We are really happy with our extension which has exceeded our expectations, and we would definitely recommend them.

The design of the garden room, taking into account the narrowness of the site, has proven a total success. The layout and the use of bifold doors has produced a space that is very flexible in use.

The architects were both very enthusiastic and professional in their work and the attention to detail was fantastic. Our builder commented that the plans were the most detailed he had seen on a residential build which resulted in the build running smoothly and keeping within budget and time-scale. Every space was well thought out to meet our requirements and the end result and quality has far exceeded our expectations. We have an amazing living space which we would not have achieved without the input of an experienced architect. We would highly recommend them.
