Do not use this guy. We paid him $2,000 in August, 2021 to come out and give us a design. Said would be 2 weeks and would get back to us. Finally, in November, 2021, he gave us a preliminary design. We discussed some changes and never heard a word back. We have called, sent emails, and text messages with no responses. $2,000 down the drain with nothing to show for it. Very poor service. Do not use him!

Mike was great to work with in designing our pool and outdoor living space. We had a vision of what we wanted but Mike was able to really bring it to life. His experience came through in helping us make decisions for a final result that was better than we had imagined.

Mike is a great pool designer! We didn't think we could fit everything we wanted in, but Mike made it work. We only had to request one design change since his original was so good. Mike discussed in-depth the steps that would happen. Our nasty muddy backyard has been transformed into a backyard oasis. We know have a sports pool, hot tub, basketball hoop, and a bbq/Green Egg to cook on. Mike truly understands how to take a space and make it into a functional living space. So glad we hired Mike for the biggest purchase of our lives.

Mike was great from start of design to finish. Our pool is a difficult pool due to the grade on our lot but Mike was able to get what we wanted in there and his design is beautiful. He also stepped in when another pool builder pulled out after 16 months of design and permitting. Our pool needs to go in first due to the shape and size of our lot. Mike saved our project!

Backyard transformation. The most critical phase of any project is choosing the right designer/contractor to do the job right the first time. When I started the process I contacted three contractors and had them send out their designer. It quickly became apparent that the scope and complexity of my project would require a special designer. So I started over and I started researching designers not just the contractors as I had done the first time a round. After several weeks of research I narrowed it down to two designers. Mike Farley was my first call. After speaking with Mike over the phone and answering some of his questions I was confident I had found my designer. I decided I would wait until we met in person to make my final decision. Once I met Mike in person and walked the site of the project, I was 100% confident in his ability and knowledge. This was a totally different experience than I had with the other three designers. I knew I had found my designer and Contractor and we begin the process. The process has been seamless, from the initial design phase through the revisions and the selection process Mike has been there to answer all my questions and also offer his opinion and expertise which has made this a great experience. If you’re looking for a world class designer look no further Mike Farley is your guy.

We hired Mike to do our backyard design and we were not disappointed! We had gone through several designs with different pool companies but were not drawn to any that we saw. When we hired Mike, he had a unique process of meeting with us first and asking a lot of questions to get to know our vision and figure out our budget first. What he came back with blew us away. Mike did a great job designing my pool. The space in my backyard was very limited and I wanted a pool which would work with an automated cover and fastlane current generator. Mike Farley designed our pool and spa. He was very comprehensive in the approach used. First Mike surveyed our lot and told us about potential design issues ( Like a 40 year old Elm tree, the yard grade/elevation, and how the pool would be seen from the house and yard). He asked how we would use the pool to determine the best size and depth, then asked questions about our style preferences. Once we were all satisfied our answers were complete, Mike produced a Computer Aided Design drawing of the pool. We went over each item from the pool mechanical equipment, to lights, to tile and decking choices. He produced a second computer drawing (that allowed us to "see" the pool from any vantage point). We made some changes to the original design and he produced a final design. Mike's knowledge of all things associated with pool design made it easy for us to choose pool mechanical equipment, lights, tile, decking, and pool plaster type (and the computer 3D scale drawings made it easy to see how choices looked). I would recommend Mike to anyone designing a pool. He listens to his customers, produces designs consistent customer wishes, and is very comprehensive in ensuring there will be no unpleasant surprises for his clients.

Mike was always professional, communicative, and most importantly creative and understanding of our dreams. He also worked with our budget. Always being careful to document all additions and credits during the process. The pool and cabanas he designed were better than we imagined, fitting in seamlessly with our existing home. I loved all of Mike’s pools when I discovered him on Houzz. Now I have one of my own!

Absolutely loved working with Mike. He did a fantastic job from project concept to completion. The time that he spent consulting with us prior to starting the design was unexpected but wound up feeling key to the process. We love the beauty Mike designed so much we took our blinds down along the back of our house so we can see it morning until evening. The overflow spa is like having a pond in your backyard that is so still (at times) that it looks like glass. The remote start fire pit was also a wise decision. We would rarely turn it on without it. With remote start we never leave the living room and can enjoy the ambience of the fire pit through the windows.

Mike's professionalism and knowledge made for a very enjoyable experience with our first pool build project. We have a corner lot that requires specific drainage and Mike knew just how to design the pool and leave the drainage paths intact. We did not get that confidence from other designers. He was patient and willing to tweak his design to meet our needs. The aesthetic of the design is amazing and we get many positive comments from neighbors and friends. A genuinely nice guy who from our first impromptu meeting at Claffey Pools struck us a relaxed, cheerful, warm and funny person; with a dry wit and sense of humor we immediately connected with. We found out as we went forward in the process that, to our delight, Mike was also one of the most educated and multi-award winning pool designers in the country. We knew our backyard was really going to present challenges. First, our yard is severely sloped and not overly large. I had dreams of a huge, very deep pool but had resigned myself to a smaller one based on seeing a lot of our neighbors pools, who had about the same size lots and challenges. Mike didn’t see the steep sloping yard and space as limitations, but as a fun challenge. When Mike initially came to our home he looked around to get a sense of “our style” then sat down to chat with us. We already knew that our number one priority in a pool was exercise. What we didn’t realize were the things that Mike took away from that meeting by skillfully guiding us through questions in a very pleasant conversational way. He did not try and steer us in a set direction; he made us really think about what was important to us.. Besides exercise, for example Mike asked how we liked to entertain. Did we envision large gatherings or more intimate gatherings; did we like dramatic bold colors or a softer lighting and landscaping look? We had thought about a few things but not nearly as many things as Mike brought up. For example, did we want a tanning ledge? I initially thought ‘no’ because I am not a sun worshipper big on tanning. Then Mike said his wife loved theirs because she could put a chair on it and read a book comfortably with her feet in the water. When he mentioned this, I thought “how did I miss thinking about that”, so yes; the tanning ledge was most definitely in. When we went into the office to see Mike’s design we were totally blown away. A gorgeous design, and not just the pool but the entire backyard layout, and to our surprise a pool that was noticeably bigger and deeper than we thought possible His step-down design incorporated graceful curves going down the grading of the yard. There was lighting, color and plenty of space to incorporate and indulge my love of plants and flowers. Best of all he gave us a great ‘swim lane’, longer that we thought possible for exercise laps. He did it by placing the entire pool at an angle in the yard and moving the entrance steps into the pool slightly off to the side. Additional steps along the pool interior, following the pool side curves led to areas for people to sit on and visit. By placing the pool where he did I got my deep beautiful pool and the perfect amount of deck space. Again, a huge surprise we did not think possible. It was clear from the beginning that Mike loves what he does and is passionate about it. My husband and I came to think of Mike as more than just a swimming pool designer. He is an artist who feels joy in what he does and that comes through in every aspect of his work. People say you never really get back your investment in a pool. We did 100% and more so because we were lucky enough to meet Mike. He is also grounded in the practical aspects of cost of building and maintaining pools and staying within a budget as well. Mike Farley was the designer of our pool and cabana. His approach starts with listening to his client. He listened to both my wife and I, who admittedly had differing ideas on the designs. By listening he was able to create a wonderful pool and backyard for our family that both my wife and I love. Mike provided options for our family to consider that were clear to understand and included the cost of various add-ons. Mike listened to ideas and suggestions to amend the design, while clearly stating what was important to maintain the design integrity. When the inevitable, albeit minor, issues arose during construction, Mike worked with the contractor to resolve the issues and ensure the end result was a win for the client. Everyone who sees the pool and cabana cannot believe how wonderful it is.

World class guy! You routinely hear about the horrors of building a pool, I'm happy to report I don't know anything about that stuff. Mike and the rest of the Claffey team did a wonderful job designing/building a pool where no one else could. Most importantly it was finished on time and on budget. I would absolutely recommend him.

We engaged Mike and another high-end pool builder to provide us their design for our backyard pool and living area. After reviewing both proposals (similar in price), Mike blew us away with his ability to listen to our feedback and give us exactly what we wanted while the other designer was more interested in his design than meeting the functional needs we had requested. Mike is professional and creative and gave us a great design that resulted in a pool and outdoor living area we will enjoy for years to come.

People are absolutely amazed when they see the transformation that took place in our backyard and the pool Mike Farley designed. We had an almost impossible backyard that several other pool builders were scared to build and Mike accepted the challenge without question. He is extremely creative in his vision and yet captures the style and necessities of the homeowners. I often tell people we truly lucked out when we were assigned Mike as our designer because he’s not only talented and recognized in his trade but he was excellent with follow-up and follow through, which are very important to me.

We could not have asked for a better designer for our pool and yard than Mike. He spent so much time with us, getting to know our wishes, our lifestyle and needs, and our home design style. All of it was evident in his design. He paid attention to every detail of our current and future needs, and made sure that our yard and pool/spa were functional, flowed for entertaining, and embraced the beauty of our backyard. Mike was flexible with the designs so that we could stay within our financial restrictions. He was timely, courteous, easy to talk to, and friendly. Unlike other designers, Mike listened to what we wanted but made sure that it would work with our yard. The other designers not only took much longer to get back to us with designs, but all they did was "design" something exactly like we thought we wanted. They not only lacked imagination and creativity, but those designs would have ended up creating hazards in our yard. Mike not only avoided those potential hazards by placing our spa in a different location, but he also used creativity, positioning of the sun, ability to view water features from inside our home, and other such factors to design our backyard oasis. Mike is a class act full of talent that is evident in every design he creates!

Mike Farley was wonderful to work with as we designed our pool. He spent time with us understanding our needs, our landscape, and overall expectations of the pool. Mike's design was utterly amazing. He took my basic concept and turned it into a piece of art. My pool is now a one of a kind that has been recognized in awards, magazines and HGTV. Every aspect of the design exceeded my expectations and it is a truly beautiful feature.
